In 2003, Mike Wallace reported on North Korea, a country rarely visited by foreigners, where people lived in abject poverty, and disease and malnutrition were rampant.
"60 Minutes" is the most successful television broadcast in history. Offering hard-hitting investigative reports, interviews, feature segments and profiles of people in the news, the broadcast began in 1968 and is still a hit, over 50 seasons later, regularly making Nielsen's Top 10.

In what way is it worse today? I'm not implying North Korea is in any way satisfactory today and even now they seem to have growing food insecurities. But can today really be worse than the famine years in the 90s?
@nikomak
@nikomak 5 күн бұрын
@@Melange2Kinda? North Korea has continued to isolate itself since the pandemic. It is true that in some respects life in North Korea is better than in the 1990s, but in terms of food there is no significant improvement. Also the fact that Kim Jong Un is focusing more on developing the army makes the situation even worse.

It's gotten worse over the last 20yrs. Ppl in the capital are starving now. The shops may look full but items are not for sale. Ppl run to the board to China and sell what they can to get $. The humanitarian aid that comes in, the twist N Korea states to it's ppl is these are reparations from the Americans for their imperialism attacks. There is a real problem with ppl smoking that the Govt has put up signs to discourage ppl from smoking even though their Leaders smoke more than a Russian steel mill.

If this has actually been shot in 2003 I don't know, but I know that during the peak of the famine the regime declared itself open to foreign humanitarian aid which was exceptional, and that aid was followed by a lot of reporters

20 years later and DPRK is completely transformed state! Even the foreign reporters now suggest there is virtually no famine anymore. The country has a strong nuclear capabilities and has a strong military industry capable of suppling much bigger nations with the arsenal. The cities have modern buildings, free education programs and one of the prettiest subways is located in Pyongyang. Stunning how they managed to prosper ..

Have you seen what the Detroit and California look now? Like a third word country with stores closing all around and shoplifters stealing left and right as state won't prosecute them .. The wealth stratification is horrible, less than 1% is holding 33% wealth of the whole USA
