Yeah if she returned she would have been either killed or put in a concentration camp. If the NK government found out about her leaving, which they probably did if she was in a higher class, her family is already in those camps or dead. It's called group guilt and 3-8 generations of family end up put in the camps for crimes like leaving.

Believe it or if north koreans were granted a few days in south korea and asked if they wanted to stay many of them wouldn't because they are so used to a cold and dark lifestyle they wouldn't be able to handle thinks in a normal fast paced country, and they also probably wouldn't know what to do with their freedom as almost all of them lived with such a strict rules their entire lifes

Well are you really surprised? Going from a state that literally did everything and decided for things you, never having to worry about money or your job, to an absolutely ruthless capitalist society such as sth. Korea. where you are free and you have to decide by yourself for everything, which is panicking, even for people living in countries like that since birth. I would have went back. It would take immense strenght to adapt like that, and life definitely wasnt so bad especially for her back there.

Nara's story is quite interesting. Her story is different because she left North Korea, not because she was hungry or poor. Her family lived well but she left because she wanted freedom. Her mother already lived in China and later in South Korea and asked her several times if she didn't want to join her. Her father and brother decided to stay. It's interesting to learn a story with a different view of the life there. I really like to watch her interviews.

@@pink-cow she gets south Korean citizenship by default after escaping from the north. + The language barrier & food culture is not that big so it's easier to adapt for them. Why TF would she leave all that and go to the usa where she would be looked at as a strange animal by everyone else around her? & How exactly is she supposed to go there lol. Also South Korea has pretty good healthcare & opportunities for her. I'd pick sk over usa too lol.
@alva--._..l-._.-l.._.--
@alva--._..l-._.-l.._.-- Жыл бұрын
@@pink-cow because South Korea conditions are way better. North Koreans are given a lot of help, studying and working opportunities and very good healthcare. She has more opportunities there, she doesn't need to learn a foreign language nor adapt to a foreign culture and their food. Besides, she'll be a foreigner in the USA, as in South Korea they are given citizenship. If North Koreans already struggle to adapt to South Korea, adapting to the USA is much more difficult. She would be returning to NK in no time and lose everything she aimed for herself. I would pick South Korea anytime than the USA.

I was raised in an area with a very high crime rate and when I finally moved to a better area I did not for a single second miss my old place. The old place I lived in is nothing compared to North Korea which is why it's even more shocking to me that she would want to consider moving back. I get that there are cultural differences and that it's hard to adjust to new places, but when thinking about all of the traumatic events she must've endured in North Korea it's still quite shocking to me. @@cursedtortilla101 The difference between your experience and hers is that you got out of the “area” in the country without any restrictions, whereas she left everything behind to leave the country where she has family, friends and everything. And imagine if they will never be able to see you or you can visit there and then.
@cursedtortilla101
@cursedtortilla101 Жыл бұрын
@@ieditwhatiminterested5341 My parents left behind their home country and even though it's not as restrictive as North Korea, it wasn't until decades that they were able to see their relatives again. That's just unfortunately the sacrifices some people have to make to live a better life. While yes, this isn't as bad as her situation, in the video they never mentioned that she wanted to go back to North Korea because of her "family or friends". He simply mentioned that the cultural differences were what made her consider moving back to North Korea. It's also said that those who are wealthy in North Korea have more access to things like technology, making it a bit easier to get into contact with Nara. Plus, do you really think that the North Korean government doesn't know that Nara escaped? Even though the North Korean government can't do anything to Nara since she's legally living in South Korea now, her family still lives in North Korea which makes me think that they were affluent enough to where they wouldn't be punished for helping their daughter escape and be so public about it. This might be why her family isn't listed amongst the things that made her consider moving back.

South korea has a policy of accepting each and every north korean who wants to escape, the only problem is getting there, as you probably know north koreans aren't allowed to leave the country without a special permission from the government and a very good reason to leave. You can't escape by land as the border with south korea is heavily protected and china is an ally to north korea and if you get caught in china they'll depart you back immediately and you can guess what would happen to you then

I’m South Korean but I know many people who are North Korean that also escaped. They have to cross a river without getting caught by North Korean soldiers (if your do you get killed) but if you don’t get caught you can be free as they can’t make you go to jail as South Koreans laws are different to north Koreans law (South Koreans law does not include not having north Koreans allowed) I hope that North Korea can give more freedom to people with less harsh laws. Not much is known about North Korea so I can’t say much but I hope that people there can stay safe

I read a few accounts and watched documentaries about people who escaped from North Korea. It's definitely not the same as directly knowing people who defected but what I noticed is that most of them spoke about how they didn't feel entirely secure in China either. They said that if you get caught by the Chinese government, you are deported back to North Korea since they're diplomatic allies and that's why they also can't claim asylum in China. I can't even imagine not only the stress of living in North Korea but also of knowing that if you do escape, you have to go through a country with as much landmass as China until you can actually reach safety, knowing that your only way out is like that since there's no way of coming out alive through the DMZ.

I was trying to see if someone mentioned this but it’s honestly so sad, in North Korea if someone from a family escaped they would enslave their family leaving them to die while working, and if the person that escaped didn’t have any family then their friends would take the family’s place in being enslaved. I’m happy that Nara is living well but I can’t stop thinking about her family and friends

Don't worry, I've heard from others that she talked with her father and brother and they're alright and the reason she left was because her mother escaped before her

I hope Nara's family and friends are okay. When you leave NK, your family and friends will be punished. I hope this didn't happen to them :(
