he Moranbong Band, also known as Moran Hill Orchestra, is an all-female music group in North Korea whose members were selected by the country's supreme leader Kim Jong-un. Performing interpretive styles of pop, rock, and fusion, they are the first all-female band from the DPRK, and made their world debut on July 6, 2012. Their varied musical style has been described as symphonic because it is "putting together different kinds of sounds, and ending in a harmonious, pleasing result.

At this time in the band's history both synthesizer musicians, Ri Hui Kyong and Kim Yong Mi are full Lieutenants (2 stars). Most of the musicians and singers are Junior Lieutenants (1 star). Singer/Soprano Kim Sol Mi is Senior Lieutenant (3 stars). Kim Yu Kyong goes from Junior Lieutenant to Captain and back again at least three times. Sometime in 2017 they are all Junior Lieutenants and stay at that rank.

I am so happy that they are able to enjoy their time with music and singing. Not being able to see their family while in the band and army must be so hard and knowing their family is starving while they are able to eat modest meals must be heartbreaking for them. ❤️❤️❤️
