On June 25, 2018, we catch NSHR6 between Bloomsburg and Northumberland, PA, on the North Shore, while on the 26th, we see NSHR2 head down the Shamokin Valley Railroad, which includes a variety of scenes, from downtown and street running, to bridge crossings and back country roads.

June 25, 2018
0:00 - NSHR6 with NSHR SW1500 1948 heads south through Bloomsbury with one car.
0:38 - We caught them again at Rupert moving at a fairly brisk pace.
1:08 - Finally, NSHR6 heads through downtown Danville. We broke off the chase here to see K21 head down the Selinsgrove Secondary, as seen in the previous video.
June 26, 2018
1:55 - NSHR2 shoves onto the Norfolk Southern Buffalo Line in Northumberland off of the North Shore railroad, with NSHR SW1500 1946 and 4 empty (formerly grain) hoppers for Shamokin Carbons. They will head south to the SVRR interchange in Sunbury.
3:35 - Having just left NS rails at SF, NSHR2 starts eastward on the Shamokin Valley Railroad through Sunbury.
4:50 - The train continues along the old jointed rail at about 10 MPH, being flanked by Sawmill Road on the south, and the Shamokin Creek on the north.
5:35 - As the sun starts to climb high in the sky, wild daisies also give hint of summer time as NSHR2 eases down the line, crossing Camp Rd near Snydertown.
6:30 - NSHR2 at Paxinos.
7:25 - Even though the prime angle was shadowed in, Clark's mill makes a great backdrop at Sunnyside.
8:40 - After running around the train just north of town, they shove up 5th Street on the branch to Shamokin Carbons.
9:50 - An hour later, the train heads back through Shamokin with 4 loads of anthracite.
12:30 - Later that afternoon, the train heads north on the NS Buffalo Line crossing the Susquehanna River on the island between Sunbury and Northumberland.
Thanks for watching!

"Daddy, why is that switcher hauling freight on the main line?" *Slowly pulls off badass sunglasses* "That's not a switcher son... She's a ROAD switcher. She was born for this."

It's two separate lines, I know the title makes it seem like one but I didn't know a better way to say it without being wordy.

Don't you love the sound of those "baby" 567 engines? Or maybe a "baby" 645? I love these little workhorses.

The first Sunbury shot was in my old neighborhood. When did NSHR put up a signal on that part of the line? I tried to be a part of that railroad many times when I was younger, but with no luck. Nice video, and the quality was excellent.

Thanks for watching and commenting! That's a good question, we were surprised to see it there because there was an older signal there not long ago. They probably had to upgrade it to coincide with Norfolk Southern upgrading their signals.

Very nice video Eric ... That's MY neck of the woods there ... I remember when the Reading Lines used to run MANY trains a day around there. Sadly those days are gone ...

Excellent video! I know Shamokin was both Reading and PENNSY. On the street running part of the line I guess that was the Reading. How much of this railroad was Erie Lackawanna?! 1946 looks fantastic in EL type livery! Before the Conrail takeover. EL had GP38-2s U23Bs and SW1500s as well as SW1000s on order! Now we know today what an SW1500 would've looked like in EL livery! AWESOME video!

Thanks. The North Shore branch between Northumberland and Berwick was originally Delaware Lackawanna & Western. When it became EL I believe they extended trackage rights across the river into Sunbury.

PRR I1sa Yup. That area of Pennsylvania was at onetime a VERY busy railroad community! In the Reading book. It says in there that's as far West that the Reading went. Or as far away from Philly than any other Reading line! AND even with the Lackawanna as well. Though I may be wrong about the Lackawanna. Thank you for the railroad history of the Shamokin area.

PRR I1sa Yes. Those indeed were the day's. Thank God you have Reading memories. As a young boy! Just as I have Erie Lackawanna memories growing up in Morris County N.J. with the Morristown line and Denville Junction like 4 miles from our house in Parsippany. At Denville Junction is also where the BOONTON LINE and the Morristown line met the mainline out to Scranton and of course Buffalo N.Y.. The READING was another favorite railroad too. Though I didn't get to see what was this magnificent railroad until after Conrail. My friends and I did get to see quite a bit of activity on various Reading lines with Reading power mixed with the other former railroads.

Stunning quality shooting by you and of course the 4k sharpness! Btw, what editing program are you using and are LUT's involved?

I use Sony Movie Studio 13 Platinum for the time being. I may upgrade to something pro eventually. No LUTS are involved, that's still something I have to learn. What you see here is out of the camera + KZfaq's compression haha.

That's interesting! I see the release date is sometime in Oct, I'm looking to make a purchase soon, before fall. I'm not really interested in a DSLR rig because of cost and limitations, although the biggest gain would be a micro 4/3 sensor. I'm waiting for the price to come down on the Panasonic AG-UX180, older model but still very robust. Just picked up a RODE Videomic X too and am really excited to get into XLR inputs...as the little brother (Stereo Videomic Pro) I have now is starting to give out and I'll have to replace the wiring.

Went with the Panasonic G9, only 8 bit/60fps with 10 minute segment recording. Can also be used as my second photograph camera photographing airplanes.

Very nice! Are you going to be posting any videos? It seems like Panasonic has taken the upper-hand to Sony-I was disappointed with Sony's latest releases / price points.

How often & what days does the North Shore Somokin Valley railroad operate between Bloomsburg & Northcumberland?
@ReptilianLepton
@ReptilianLepton 2 жыл бұрын
Just to clarify, the North Shore Railroad and the Shamokin Valley Railroad are distinct lines, albeit ones that mutually cooperate as subsidiaries of the North Shore Railroad Company. The company operates several other shortlines in the region. And I don't have an exact count, but as Danville area resident I'm pretty sure there's at least 1-2 trains in each direction most days on NSHR, but that can vary with the needs of local businesses.
