It's so sweet! I love how he starts out wiping the mud from her cheek, but just before they're interrupted, he's holding her face with both hands, and her look is so trusting.

There's a few of us men that read, watch Jane Austin adaptation's, my favourite Austin women is Elinor/Marianne and Mrs Dashwood, Jane/Lizzy/Kitty Bennet, Anne Eliot, Fanny Price and Eleanor Tilney. (Not necessarily in order) If i was to chose a favourite woman out of them, it would be...hmm,...Probably Mrs Dashwood, Elinor's mother, she's so comfortable been a gentle woman, and her inner/outer beauty is the rarest and beautifulest kind of woman of them all. Hope you don't mind me saying.

missMagbeth - I adore the Dashwood women, all three of them, their so comfortable being women, don't you think? The Bennet women are very agreeable as well, but Mrs Dashwood (The mother) get's my favour of them all.

@allatraca ... In my own humble opinion, Cap Tilney is there to show just what a 'fantastic man' his brother Henry is... All that is bad in his big brother is totally opposite in Henry, therefore it provides balance... I do like Henry very much and little Catherine and not forgetting Henry's lovely sister too... Maybe his rotten brother takes after his equally obnocious father??? Best wishes and happy Easter from Sunny Wales :0)x

Actually Catherine is 17 at the beginning of the novel: in Chapter 1 it says "she had reached the age of seventeen, without having seen one amiable youth who could call forth her sensibility". Otherwise your ages are correct.

@1981nichole I'm not sure. Human nature is much the same everywhere. I think that what Society deemed as respectable is what kept men in line back then: if one didn't behave, they were cut out. Today's society is much more forgiving, I believe, and THAT is why there are so few awesome men.

Yeeeees, and you would have had to wear a bone corset at ALL TIMES except sleeping. Oh, and if you didn't get married and your family didn't have a fortune to leave you? Destitute. And that is if you're one of the 'lucky' ones, and not born ALREADY destitute. No thanks, I'll keep the rude people. In exchange, I get to have a career, plumbing, technology and no corsets. I think it's fair trade.

I loved Persuasion too but I have to disagree about the 2007 adaptation. I thought it was horrible! The letter scene was completely rewritten *sigh* Much prefer the 1997(?) BBC version but both Captain Wentworths were very good in each.
@chefb2you
@chefb2you 14 жыл бұрын
@pinchyoursoul yes, Cirian Hinds as Captain Wentworth is the best and I couldn't believe they cut out the MOST IMPORTANT scene from the 2007 adaption either. That adaption was hard to watch from the beginning, but after they butchered the story line, and with her full on running about, I won't watch it. Cirian Hinds will always be my Captain Wentworth :)

Yes the dresses are beautiful but not practical, If your taking a walk or visiting a friend it might be ok but for the every day life now in the 21th century is not, the dresses would get ruin easily and won't feel confortable.
