Northern lights or auroras appears in the sky when there is a solar storm. In simpler terms, it is caused due to an exponential increase in activity on the Sun's surface, also known as a solar outburst. This causes the sky to light up during the night. They are located on the poles since solar storms waves are diverted by earths magnetic field to the north and south poles of the earth and save the earth from extreme heat on 12 may largest solar storm in 2 decades hit earth with cause these beautiful auroras or northern lights..
