The weather was around 13DegC when I arrived in end September 2019. I collected my rented car from Sixt upon arriving at the airport and started my Kiruna tour. I visited the famous Icehotel but the rooms were too cold for me as everything was made from ice including the furniture.
I opted to experience wilderness for my first night in Kiruna. The transparent cabin at Sky Village was the perfect option to hunt for northern lights. I was very fortunate that there was a solar storm that night i.e. the aurora borealis will be easier to spot / stronger visibility. The northern lights started dancing from 8pm till the wee hours of the morning.
On my second day, I visited the Abisko National Park which is approximately 1.5 hours drive from Kiruna. My drive was rewarded with magical landscapes, spectacular views of rivers, birch forests and mountains. For the second night, I stayed at Aurora Camp, Kiruna as it was nearer for me to drive to the airport.
I managed to visit Kiruna town on my last day here and it started snowing just before I left the city.
