Am Hispanic..I hope this culture doesn't get lost..much of my ancestors dance has been lost. This is such beautiful dance.
@pazzodi34 жыл бұрын
What do you mean Hispanic? If you're from Mexico, Canada, USA, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Honduras, Panama, El Salvador (Central America) or Brazil, Chile, Ecuador (South America), etc we're all indigenous.. unless you're only descendent from Europe. They want us to label ourselves Latinos, Hispanic, mestizo, castizo, etc... But we're not, we're indigenous... Juchari Uinapekua

Juchari Uinapekua: Completely spot on, I've dissociated myself from terms like Latino/Hispanic, we are Native Americans!

incredibly moving to listen to the young man speaking in his native tongue
@dn2ze5 жыл бұрын
Rachel Sleightholm you hear lots of Natives talk in their Native language in Canada. In fact most will tell what language they speak by saying their Tribes name or what Natives are they. Because Culture sets us apart, one more thing Inuits and Natives are two different people and race...ever noticed you never see any Inuits at Pow-wows?

I attended a PowWow in Wyoming when I was young and I remember it being the most special thing. I was a little blue eyed blonde white looking kid but was welcomed in the most beautiful way. I remember women smiling and touching my head as if I was one of their own and I danced with the children. We were all happy to just be together. I miss that feeling.

One thing that is different from American and Canadian Native is that Canada kept and still upholds the Treaties since 1771. Part of why they call Natives “First Nations”
@diegolopez0005 жыл бұрын
But native is just 10% of Canada population, well that’s what Wikipedia says
@nathangale77025 жыл бұрын
I think Canada has been doing a better job of it recently, but to say it’s upheld it’s treaties since 1771 is pretty dishonest. I’ve heard some pretty strong criticism of Canada’s historical treatment of the First Nations too. Still, you’re right that it’s generally been better than in the US.
@rogerwilson98924 жыл бұрын
Well it's like this we have made mistakes with out Native American Tribes here in the United States but we will die to protect them and their freedom to be who they are and speak as they want.

@marshamoore83855 жыл бұрын
Sharon, just because you are 68 and disabled doesn't mean you can't go so a Powwow. Call your local tribes. They may have a way for you to one. I am 65. Been recovering from a house fire that killed both dog and myself. Long roads often result in the greatest blessings. Good luck!

Hamadi tzi dada, thank you great spirit and ancestors my mum amd i had the opportunity to attend to this event. We are from Mexico and had great experience to be there with the indigenous brothers and sisters of U.S and Canada. Hopefully next year again. Spite of migration limitations we could do it at the end. Thank you !

I grew up in Oregon and got to see lots of Pow wows. Chiloquin had a population just over 700. Very small town in the middle of no where. 80 percent of those people were Indian.

I have to admit I envy Native Americans because they have their culture or can trace it back at the very least. My family is from Colombia but I have no clue as to what tribe / culture / language my ancestors practiced. It hurts to be honest because down there it's still shunned to admit you have indigenous blood.
