Hiking from Oslo to Bergen, some impressions from my summer holiday in Norway.
My name is Markus and in the last couple of years I did a lot of one to two weeks hiking trips in the Alps, in Corsica (GR20) and in Tajikistan. For this year, I was looking for a new adventure, somewhere in the north. So in August 2022 I flew to Oslo to hike across Norway to Bergen. My hiking journey took 20days, where I travelled 530km (516km walking / 14km ferry). In total, I had 16800m ascent and descent. My longest day was 36km and my shortest day was 13km. Around half of the time I slept in DNT cabins and the other nights I slept in my tent. Three times I had a self-service cabin for my own without any other hikers. It is important to have a DNT key (and the DNT membership) if you want to sleep in DNT cabins english.dnt.no/the-dnt-key/
In Norway exists the "Allemannsretten", that means you can set up the tent nearly everywhere, as long as you are at least 150m away from the nearest inhabited house or cabin. For more information see www.visitnorway.com/plan-your...

Hi! What an incredible path and well done! I hiked from Oslo to Trondheim on the Pilgrimsleden and I loved it so much. I'd like to go back to Norway and do another route. This trek was never on my radar, but here it is. I wonder how much route finding is necessary via compass, or are the trails pretty well marked? It appears you were on trails a bit, but I know about following animal trails or ones that go to private cabins. Of course, sometimes the trails can be obscured by snow, which happened to us on multiple occasions. I certainly recognize the wet, muddy shoes! I really enjoyed your video. Thanks for putting it up!

Hi Kerry, thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed it and it raised some memories to your own incredible trip from Oslo to Trondheim. My plan was to follow the Bergensstien trail ut.no/turforslag/1115741/bergensstien-english-version-of-the-bergen-trail-across-southern-norway and then from the Gullhorgabu cabin I went down to Haga and then along the street up to Gullbotn, then to Livarden, Haukelan, Ulriken, Bergen. The trail is not marked as "Bergensstien trail" but it follows offical hiking routes / markes. The first days until Kongsberg (through the forest) it was sometimes a little bit difficult to find the correct trail. There are a lot of private cabins in the wood with really good pathes to them. After Kongsberg when you get over the tree line, then it was most time simple to find the correct trail. I downloaded offline maps and my planned route on my smartphone for navigation. I'm happy to help with any further questions.

Did you carry food for 20 days?

Hi, thanks for watching my video. The first four days I walked daily through a village so I bought food on the way. On day 4 I went through Kongsberg, where I did a bigger resupply. Next big resupply was on day 14 in Kinsarvik (where I took the ferry to Kvanndal). But between Kongsberg and Kinsarvik I slept sometimes in DNT cabines, where I either used the half pension (like in Marbu / Rauhelleren / Sandhaug) or bought something in self service cabines. Between Kvanndal and Bergen I walked through Bjorkheim on day 18 where I could buy some stuff for the last two days.
