@@andrewenglish3810 the current set up is killing innovation from America. Not allowing your citizens to experience products from another country that you can't find in your own nation destroys innovation. This is what happened to the Soviets. CN is now creating products that we don't have at all. Throughout history. People learn from their environment and create better or unique spin offs of it. This is what CN has been doing for a long time. The west called it copying. Well, the irony now is this is not happening in the West because of the leadership arrogance thinking western producers do not need to do the same. That they will somehow create something better out of thin air. They won't. The entrepreneurs won't experience this new tech coming out of CN. Their entrepreneurs will experience tech from the west. CN's government still allows western products to exist in their market so their citizens can experience them.

This is a most fascinating lesson on China. I like how the respected minister brought in the new and the old China in explaining the immense rise of the nation from 1984 to 2024, a mere 40 years. I would add something which was not discussed but I am sure the minister is aware of it. The real progress of China started with Mao, a determination to build a better nation for its people. They were many mistakes made but one thing Mao did was eliminate the class system in China. IMO, this great achievement is fundamental to the success of China today. This is one of the reasons I believe India will never surpass China though it also has great potential. The class system will ultimately stop India from excelling past China. In this race, everything counts, culture, history, equality, you name it. This is the 100 m dash in the Olympics for the Gold.

@mangobrother Ай бұрын
@@MrChenjinyuan I am not confused. I think all the leaders did their bit, which included failures and successes. Not a single leader is alone for the successes of the nation. Our universities are also in decline and so are all Western universities because what is being taught there is not reflected in the real world. Our politicians do not reflect Yale or Harvard principles, neither our top economists, they put us in an unrecoverable conjuncture. Our technology is stalling and shows no signs of recovery neither. Tesla is the only EV manufacturer in the US but builds them in China to maintain sany profit. US patents are in decline!!! We are falling behind in basic academics, mostly in science and technology as early as high school. Most of our stem PHDs are from abroad, and those who stick around are the professors because their pay rate is higher, but their ability to create or lead a new venture is not quite there. It's just a matter of time before our university system falls apart because the cost of graduating here is way to the top, but the chance of finding a stable job is getting slimmer by the day, mostly for Chinese graduates who are treated as trojan spies by our government. Also when you consider the actions taken by prestigious universities with respect to the protesters genocide in Gaza, how can you still be proud of our universities?

He's not confused at all. He's correct. It's a fact that without barriers Chinese products are cheaper and better. (And it's nothing to do with China subsidising their industry, they actually let the poor companies fail, unlike the US) . He's also quite correct that tariffs are of zero long term benefit to the US. . The fundamental problem? The US was (is) in denial regarding the new technologies (They even tried to kill off Tesla!!) . This is desperation, with high wage and production cost, poor material resources, lack of technical expertise and (Almost!!) No companies able get close to break even on the products in question, let alone be competitive, the US is between the proverbial "Rock and Hard Place". . But there's a bigger issue. Deficit out of control (be honest) Plus an undeniable transition to new energy sources leaves the US with the prospect of the PetroDollar failing. . What to do? 1) Accept change, request China brings industry TO the US, maybe negotiate deals between Chinese and US manufacturers, "take the hit" and join the new game as a "junior". . Or 2) Find an excuse to challenge the emerging Leader. Sharpen the "BIG STICK" and go looking for conflict. . (Prediction.... USA WANTS war and the first targets would be Chinese mainland chip and battery factories) .... And it's an election year..... What are the chances of civilised conversation?

Everybody focuses on manufacturing when it comes to China with their incredible capacity for innovation, but of equal importance in my view is how they are changing agriculture, judging from the many (often boring and repetitive, unfortunately) videos available. But quite frankly, trying to get the real picture on what is happening in China, and indeed many SE Asian nations, to people in the west is just fighting a losing battle. And the west just goes on building more and nastier weapons to safeguard the "rules-based" international order. Whose rules? To hell with the environment.

You also need need the context of who Eirk Solheim is to put his comments and statement in context. He is a political animal that came from the rich part of society in Norway due to his parents. From his teens he was part of the socialist movement, and was the youth leader of Socialist Youth. Later leader of the Socialist party. Elected to the parliament, later minister in the government. He came from the same class and ideology as Jens Stoltenberg (head of NATO), and was a minister in Stoltenbergs government when Norway as part of NATO, bombed Libya to shit. All those boat refugees in the last 13 years that have drowned on the way from Libya to Europe. Erik Solheim was part of that and and as the newspapers in NOrway said at the time. "Norway was "best in class" when it came to duing the bombing. After the bombing and the critics started to come, Erik Solheim said he was the critical voice in government - but he did not resign. So this man has blood on his hand, like all the others of the Stoltenberg government in 2011. What all these norwegian politicians have in common is the belief that they can spend normal taxpayers money to change the world, because they know best what is right. They started out their careers as rich spoiled teens, protected by their parents and given their positions due to their parents and their social class. When spending the norwegian taxpayers globally was not enough, then they got into the global organizations and continued to travel the world and spend everyones taxmoney. All of them would like to have a society where changes can be implemented quickly, as they all would like to make the decisions for everyone else.

Used hate drive in China, now driving is such an enjoyment with nice smooth highway, high quality and smart cars in a very affordable price like medium SUV cost only $20 per day include insurance. The Apps on mobile almost all Chinese made, and they are way better than the western apps, like the navigation app Gaode Map, not only lane navigation, can display traffic light count down for the 2 traffic light in front of you, also warn you variable of traffic like speeding vehicles around you, incoming vehicles in an unseen bending road, et al.

It is difficult for Chinese companies to trust the US and the EU after all the sanctions and aggression to China and its companies - there has been a threat of NATO and the US in Taiwan. So it appears the west will slowly degrade and isolate itself unless there is a huge change in its trustworthiness and ability to cooperate. Unfortunately this is also felt by a large percentage of the world. The West needs to change otherwise it will become marginalised.

In the US, special interests using the power of political contributions hinder progress. I remember being taught in school that Cincinnati, the 4th largest city in the US at the time, was perfectly poised to continue growing. With river traffic and the advent of the railroad, Cincinnati could have become the national hub of distribution. Unfortunately, Cincinnati had a large, powerful steamboat manufacturing industry and they prevented the railroad from gaining strength in the region to protect their primacy.

Manufacturing was shifted from the USA on purpose. NAFTA had a devastating impact on many rural economies. The USA gave tax incentives to corporations to offshore USA jobs and ignored the pleas of workers. We can bring manufacturing back but it will take a government that will invest in it. The current shift seems to be to move production from China to other countries such as Mexico in place of trying to rebuild manufacturing in the USA. We need to strengthen our own economy. China imposes tariffs on the USA. My understanding is the tariffs Trump issued didn’t stop trade but promoted a more balanced trade policy. There will always be strengths and competitive advantages for each country. I think Americans are exhausted by endless wars. I don’t know if either party is willing to transition. This is painful.
