when you're filming a fake filming of a real film about a real vampire that's fake but real in the fake film and you just can't get that damn lazy ass cat to play with the damn thing.

I would love to see a three-paneled comparison between similar scenes from F.W. Murnau's original "Nosferatu: Ein symphonie des grauens" (1922), Werner Herzog's remake "Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht / Nosferatu the Vampyre" (1979), and E. Elias Merhige's "Shadow of the Vampire" (2001).

Nosferatu has one of the most insane and impressive meta-narrative journeys in the history of cinema. Begins as an unofficial adaptation of the Dracula novel with the names of characters altered. Has legal trouble and almost every copy is destroyed. The novel is then officially adapted as a Hollywood film almost a decade later Then Nosferatu is remade in the 70s, this time USING the official character names from the novel upon which it was unofficially based on Then in 2001 they make a "Movie about making a movie" focused on the film but with a twist which is still ACTUALLY being about a vampire killing people. Now in 2024 the original film is getting a direct remake...over 100 years later.

do you still read comments on older videos ? since you still have a few recent comparison videos i imagine you're still in touch with your channel so, i wanna say that i really like this video comparing the Orlok scenes, you sped up and muted all the right parts in the effort to sync them as closely as possible. although i imagine a direct request would be pretentious and a Nosferatu follow up could be "a bit much" but, _would you _*_ever_*_ so possibly _*_consider_*_ making a comparison video including _*_this_*_?_ kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gqxjjdqJqq2YZYE.html heres one scene, but the whole film is worth a throught inspection to see if it is worth doing a triple or double scene comparison with either the original or the 2000 film(since there seems to be aspects borrowed from both versions interestingly enough)

SOTV was a good movie, but since it was filmed in an entirely different country (Luxembourg instead of the Czech Republic and Germany), they didn't have the same sets as in the original 1922 film, and they didn't even try. Still, it's one hell of a movie.

The remake is Nosferatu, the Vampyre (Free on youtube). Shadow of the Vampire is a mockumentary, where its how they filmed the movie, but Orlok is actually a real vampire.

original orlock looked much better. The new ones face is too wide and fat. Not narrow and skinny enough.
@violatress5 жыл бұрын
There's definitely a Klaus Kinski influence there, even some mannerisms from the Herzog remake made it into Dafoe's performance. It's not exactly a bad thing though, both Schreck and Kinski were iconic in that role, so why not. Dafoe added something from himself as well, took a very difficult, culturally charged role and made it his own. I'm a big fan of this film.

In my estimation, "Shadow of the Vampire" is one of cinema's great embarrassments. It makes a legitimate biopic of Morneau's life impossible after this cornball cartoon with fantasy embellishments that were completely unnecessary. Whoever made the decisions concerning this film, as was the case with "Mommy Dearest", chose drastically wrong. Poor Udo Keir...standing there with nothing to do but mug while having portrayed one of the most interesting vampires of all time. Why to any of this?
@dimitreze Жыл бұрын

*Murnau One of the most well known directors of early C20th cinema, both Germany and Hollywood. With all due respect, what kind of a 'movie channel' are you if you can't even get this man's name right?😀
@impmoviechannel3052 Жыл бұрын
@@dimitreze Uh, show biz either repeats what they consider a success for profit (how many Marylin Monroe or Nazi movies do we need?) or says it's been done before. the point it, they took the subject matter in this case -- a real person -- and with massive disrespect, made turned him into a buffoon to no point. If it's not a biopic, it sure isn't high art.
@impmoviechannel3052 Жыл бұрын
@@rollinginabarrel1218 First, I was agitated by this film -- when it came out and ever since -- because I do care about the subject matter for many reasons. Secondly, I'm not sure what happened to spellcheck but it wasn't caught there either. Most people I talk with in professional show biz have never heard of him or this film. I use it as an example of poor acting/director choices. Thirdly, having been in show biz over 40 years, rarely do people spell my name, the movie title, the name of the production company right, especially college-educated reporters with a press release in their hand. Thank you for that catch. I will spell his name right when I make my film about the man's experience of being homosexual during WW2, being trapped in a fox hole while his dead lover lay rotting a few feet away.
