@@LyraDavis well most houses here were built by Brits or based on their designs cause colonialism lol. I figured UK wouldn't have houses like this so much, most housed there are townhouses, no?

@@stuffwithsoph8264 not at all. Warning, I’ve written a rediculoisly long comment, so no pressure to read. Just thought it maybe interesting to some… possibly. We have a huge variety of houses here. From 600 year old cottages, Victorian villas and Edwardian or Art Deco Semi detached, to the ugly terraced new builds, regency Georgian town houses as you mentioned, and a huge variety of different architectural detached houses built in different eras. Lots of areas were re-built in the 60s after the war, and due to population growth have continued to develop on our green spaces through out so each decade, 70s, 80s 90s etc has their own distinctive style. The town I live in has a mix of all of the above. It was recorded in the doomsday book in 1066, and still has a couple of properties standing from that period, as well as base structures from when we were invaded by the romans and vikings. (2 large pots of gold Roman coins were dug up from underneath a hotel when they rebuilt after a fire a few years back and we are covered in ruins which get discovered all the time as apparently our ancestors weren’t concerned with simply paving over them ) Then the town saw a couple of significant development periods through the 1600s and 1700s taking it from an impoverished slum to a market town which attracted nobles and gentry. (Probably why we still have a clear rich/poor divide today from one end of town to the other) As the town grew, you can tell which areas were built when by the architecture. Entire districts on one side of the park are 70s style like this video, older parts from the 1850s to the 1950s will have terraced houses (I believe North America refers to these rows of houses attached on both sides as town houses, but here that means something a bit different) or semi detached houses. These ones typically only have two floors and are attached to another house on only one side. parts near the centre are regency town houses with 4-6 floors and tall ceilings and windows. We have the wealthier areas where all the houses are detached, mostly only the houses built after the war or after 1950 have garages and driveways. Although many of the garages are too small for modern cars and are repurposed as utility rooms or storage so people don’t have to do their laundry in their kitchen. The older houses that had coach houses have typically seen the coach houses be converted in to accommodation. I know that’s probably not the answer you were looking for, so feel free to disregard. I just thought this channel attracted people interested in architecture, and your comment highlighted a misconception about my country, so it might be interesting to any others who happen across our conversation. Side note, since you mentioned colonialism, I get that it’s popular to bring that up right now, but we too, we’re colonised multiple times by multiple nations throughout our history, who erased our ancestor’s commons tongues, customs and cultures and replaced it with their own. Indeed this has happened all over the world. North America might be a more recent example, but I digress. I’m probably making assumptions anyway, because from experience on the KZfaq’s, people always managed to take an enjoyable video and turn it toward a political agenda. But I’m sure you only mentioned it as a matter of fact to why the house style might be similar out of ignorance (I don’t mean that in a negative way, simply as in, you didn’t know) as to what the relevance here would be.. -which is none. This is a 70s style house. 1970s not 1670s. Any similarity between architectural designs built in the 70s in Canada, Australia and the U.K. more likely due to them being connected by being commonwealth countries and the more connected world sharing fashions and trends in designs. The UK was rebuilding and expanding to accommodate the baby boom after WW2 at the same time as Australia and Canada were also expanding and building. The 60s and 70s was a hugely popular time for people from the U.K to emigrate to Australia or Canada after WW2 as well. Anyway, if anyone bothered to read all of that waffle, kudos! You have a lot of patience! 😊

@@LyraDavis i read a bit and i wanted to clarify im aware a lot of rural UK has cottages and other types of houses, but from a Canadian perspective your rural areas are soooooo tiny, vast majority of your country is very urban and was rebuilt to accomadate modern living, or at the least renovated. your country (i think) has much more people than mine, but only a tiny percentage of our land. however, in older cities in the more "English" areas of the country (Southern Ontario primarily) have lots of buildings with similarities, i just didnt expect most of those buildings to be entact after WWII bombing campaigns

@@stuffwithsoph8264 ahh, your reply suggests you should have read the entire comment before replying. Don’t blame you. I rambled. Actually, 71% of the UK is still rural. And the building as in the video is 70s. So it didn’t need to survive bombings, it’s design was built after! Most of the building haven’t been renovated to accommodate modern living either. If you buy an old house, it likely needs rewiring and heating put in and a bathroom being added upstairs. Most commonly homes have separate, small kitchens, and only one toilet. It’s only in the past 15-20 years homes have been built with modern living in mind and they are in the vast minority. So many of our homes are social housing or rentals and those practically never get updated. As a rule I try to refrain from correcting other people what their country is like if I have not experienced it personally or haven’t at least done some basic research. I only state what I know about my own. I don’t mean that in a horrible way, It’s more of a heads up as others don’t take that sort of thing too well. Not that you should care too much though, this is the internet after all and someone is always going to be offended. Anyway, take care and have an enjoyable day. 😊
