Having recently been through a house fire where lightning hit our chimney and a blaze started, our nosey neighbor ran over to tell us the house was on fire and likely saved our lives because we just thought the power had gone out. She bugs me every day while we were living there but saved our lives. So I'll take nosey over noisy.

I just moved from a house where the girl next door constantly fought every night, outside, 4 feet from our windows. We tolerated it shouts of "put the gun down" that is when the tolerance stopped and cops were called. This happened 3 times before the landlord moved them elsewhere. I would rather a nosy neighbor, they are only trying to find something to fill their empty lives.

I had a loud walker leaving above me . The previous person that lived above me was a tall over weight man I never heard him waking around. Then a tiny lady moved in and it sounded like she was stomping around. I'd rather have a nosy neighbor than her above me.

I like the "quiet nosy neighbor" that nobody's paying attention to but when stuff jumps off you find out they have been on top of everything coming and going and they may even give you the heads-up when some things going down lol if it's the right quiet nosey neighbor "with a special set of skills" I'd like Liam Neeson for my neighbor

I live in a rural area. I prefer “distant” neighbors. So far that I can’t hear “noisy” and by the time “nosy” walks to my home she’s too tired and forgets to be nosy! 😜

I literally had to move from upstairs noisy neighbors who were constantly jumping, running, moving around furniture, playing loud music etc. I reported them multiple times and they became vindictive and made even more noise. It was then I realized why tenants only stayed in that apartment for a year. On the flip side, I was a nosy neighbor but it saved the life of the nosy elderly woman who lived next door who I had not seen in days and the super did a welfare check on her and she was found on the floor. So I’ll take nosy all day over noise.

Unlike the bar soap v. body wash debate, I'm 100% with Josh on this one. My upstairs and next door neighbors are loud in different ways, but are equally annoying. At this point, someone asking me about my shopping, my clothes, my schedule, I don't care what, is far more welcome than not being able to relax in my own home.

I enjoyed today's show, it is new to me. Believe it or not, but I learned something today. I am a friendly person, but I learned over the years to not be so friendly with my neighbors, whenever a new family would move in, I always got the urge to buy a meal for them to welcome then into the neighborhood. Then I would have second thoughts about it such as what will they think about my bring food to them or will they eat it, or maybe do they think that I am just being nosey. I finally decided not to go thru with my decision. By listening to you two today u feel that I made the right decision each time. I have been on the loud side as well. My EX was do annoying and everyday he stressed me out and he knew it. So I found myself yelling at him throughout the entire time that he was home. My neighbors heard most of the arguments and I was highly embarrassed and he was walking around like an innocent bag of dry bones. I finally got hm out of my house and now I am living a happy, loving peaceful life.

Growing up in NYC, when a new neighbor moved in we always brought food over to them; especially on moving-in day. We knew they hadn't time to get their kitchen in order to make a meal. Now, people would just look at you like you're crazy. When my Mom died (Dad had already died) their neighbor came over to ask me to borrow one of Dad's tools. He told me that he & his wife heard every argument my Parents ever had over the course of their 30 yrs of living in their house. I was so embarrassed.

No way!!! I have noisy mean neighbours! Their 17yo is just as bad as the parents, they are really judgemental and all! My other neighbours watch out like I do, we tell each other when we're away just in case and sometimes we're loud : we speak loud and play music, sometimes it's them being noisy with their mouth, they sometimes have dogs but we're respectful towards each other. We can be loud and still care about our neighbours in a non Karen way...

Not necessarily! I have lived all over this country and had roommates when I studied abroad. I have the worst nosy neighbor ever experienced. And btw, “Karen’s” aren’t always white. This one is a very large black woman Who doesn’t have kids doesn’t have a job doesn’t have a car yet will tell on you for every single little thing that you do. And if you open your door she opens hers. But when I sit outside in front of my apartment she has a camera facing me and records everything it’s so bizarre! she’s ALWAYS in a bad mood angry looking for a fight.

nah, most of them I know won't ever do anything. They just collect data to get others into trouble. when it comes to someone needing help "Ohh really? I didn't notice anything" you are fantasizing about your friendly neighbor who wants to be your neighborly friend more than you want him/her to be. But that's something different.

As someone who knows a neighbor that calls the cops because they're parked with one wheel on the street or because the grass is too long,I'd rather have a noisy neighbor that chills the f out. Currently I have a job where I'm gone all day and the only neighbor I have contact with is the lady that lives behind me that walks her dog by my house and I rarely see her and she's not as nosey.

I would much prefer nosey versus noisy. As annoying as nosey can be, I want to be able to sit outside in peace. You can only block out so much! I can always step back inside when I see the nosey neighbor headed my way. 🤨

Nosy neighbor could save your life/property or they could be watching it to try take it from you. There's also a possibility they are only nosy so they can stir up drama either from drawing the wrong conclusions from their gathered data or intentionally fabricating information because they have just enough information about you to know you would have difficulty disputing it.

I have nosey and noisy neighbors they turn there massive speakers towards my house and blast music from one morning to wee hours of the next and if we are having a conversation in our yard they just join in and make their comments but a nosey neighbour won't let anything suspicious go unnoticed

I'd rather have a nosy neighbor. I've told off nosy neighbors, then ignored them, & they stayed away from me. I've had noisy neighbors (loud noise after midnight) & even after knocking on their door to ask them to cool it, calling the building security, & calling the police it still took over 1 month to get rid of them.

Our building is pretty tight knit. The guy next door died last November. I kept asking management to go check on him, but they didn't for an entire month. It took several days to air the whole building out all of the carpets were shampooed/torn out/replaced. I feel really bad that our unit is the noisy one, because our 7 year old is VERY active.

I don't know if she was a nosy neighbor but I heard a story the other day of this lady that was able to warn this family that their garage is on fire and she showed up by the ring camera trying to get their attention at around 1:00a.m. to get them out and if it wasn't for her they would not have survived.

Loved your concept of "you don't pay rent here, take your sounds...", thank you for putting that into words! Between nosy and noisy, (assuming for this exercise that they are mutually exclusive groups) I'll definitely take nosy over noisy. Noisy is definitely correlated to obliviousness, and I totally agree with this multi-dimensionality of noisiness. I've had a set of neighbors that are definitely multi-D noisy, to the point that they even managed to invade/pollute my email, because they obliviously did a more serious equivalent of reply-all from landlord's group email. Now I'm having to ward off all sorts of emails... * sigh *

This is a topic I discussed with my mother and she told me, "at least with a nosy neighbor you get built-in security! '. Currently, I have a neighbor who enjoys smoking and comes in through the vents, windows, and under my door. I feel my room now smells like I am a smoker since he smokes so much. Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done about that.

This has been my favorite. I started as team nosy 🧐 but with Josh’s conditions I’ve reluctantly changed sides. I just have a really nosy neighbor who weirds me out. She started a neighborhood text thread so she has my number. Fine - pertinent news is welcome. But tell me why she popped up on my phone “happy birthday 🥳 “ I’m like 😳 how you know it’s my bday bish!?!?

I once lived in a house that was very close to my neighbors. We would often hear arguing. One day my young son said, “I think the mother is angry because her daughter is always out too late and is smoking “.

My neighbor uses the front of this aunt's house to have a daily impromptu social club. Where loud rap music is played arbitrarily daily. My landlord told him my private business so he amped up the harassment coupled with a public nuisance. Then started ridiculing me which is law now in Connecticut. I am going to sue the owner.

Didn't love living near a family with a large, loud angry father living with a much physically smaller wife & daughter. That wasn't fun. Never sounded dangerous enough to take action, but enough to make you worry.

I think this is a cultural thing, and it is also about how much space you have. Neighborhood, where I live, nobody wants to know about anybody. We kindly greet each other every morning, but further, than that I don't even know their names. In the past 15 years, we have experienced some teenagers with booming radios, but there is always someone who complains and that is that. My closest neighbor across the street is 85 and he blasts that turntable with Classical music every Sunday morning. But, so It happens I also enjoy Lizt, so I wouldn't change my space.

I have had both types of nosey And noisy neighbors. They are BOTH a pain in the neck. I myself am more like a nosey neighbor. But I am worried about my neighbors and am trying to make everyone happy. It does cause me trouble though, so I am working on focusing more on me. Thank you two for this fun from you both. Thin walls are a thing in Alaska. I have learned to put on my headphones and enjoy the music. AND Thank you for making me laugh in the morning! Great way to start the day! YES!!!!!!!!!!!! I became mentally disabled at the age of six. I am now learning about the race stuff because I am living it with my best friend from high-school. He told me it would be totally different from what I was taught in white people world. I still drop my jaw in.... I am learning to be a different person. More aware of.......... Thank you for sharing and helping this person learn more about real life.

Okay so this is an interesting debate nosy versus noisy neighbors I think I'd likely go for nosy neighbors because they can be annoying but at least they're checking in on you and it feels like you're more welcome in the neighborhood and them getting in your business is a problem but you know I'd rather that than noisy. Noisy neighbors I feel like there's a lot of factors that goes into whether I would actually prefer them: my mood, depends on the music they're playing, just so many things

I think that it depends on whether the nosy neighbor is nosy from concern and friendliness or nosy because they like to get others in trouble. There are both kinds, you know. I'm a nosy neighbor but I wouldn't call the cops unless I believed my life or someone else's life was in danger.

Exactly. I had one who was nosy and then would proceed to tell me everybody's business. She would complain to the hoa about all of the tenants. 4th of July, 10:01pm she starts calling and complaining to mgr. I dont party at all but neighbors were still out. Its a holiday. Rediculous.

This is interesting. I have had some of my (primarily white) friends who were suspicious of (especially black) kids in the neighborhood coming over to play with their kids because they thought they were being sent to scope out their house and report back to their “gang member” family members.

I had a nosy Karen for a neighbor. This type of nosy is not an asset; but, a detriment. Especially, if they weaponize their biases or racism. My daughter was playing with her friend outside in the rain and this heffa called the police telling them my daughter was locked out of the house. This lead to an unwarranted exchange for this black family with the police.

Question? What if your daughter actually was locked out of the house, in the pouring rain? Personally, I would have asked your daughter if she was ok? I like being in the rain so if your daughter said she was fine, I'd say ok & go back into my house. If your daughter said she was locked out, I'd have her & her friend come into my house & call you.

@@dee_dee_place Both had on rainwear and were playing in the rain. From a cursory glance and quick summation one could determine they were not under duress and not trying to seek shelter given the large open Florida room in the back they didn't retreat to. And if the aforementioned couldn't be ascertained, there was always finding out more by either asking them or the parents.

I have loud neighbors on both sides of me (I don't have upstairs or downstairs neighbors) and I have nosy neighbors on the street I live on. I purposefully get everything I need by Friday and "staycation" at home for the weekend...my car won't move, especially when its too hot outside and in the winter.

I had a neighbor who had manic episodes any time of day or night. Which was bad, but got worse when he threatened me! That was a combination of noise AND unwanted interaction! I will say it’s tricky when people have dogs and babies that are loud- they can’t help it, but the adults living there are also going to get to get super defensive if you try to say anything. My neighbor now has a toddler that screeches a lot, and runs up and down the hallways till 10 or 11 at night sometimes! I can’t say anything though cuz I have a dog, and if she barks once then I lose my ability to complain about noise.

Sounds like my last neighbor. But he would keep it going til 5am every night. For 6 months I didn't get much regular sleep. Many a days of 36+hrs no sleep sessions being kept awake.

Years ago when we lived in an upstairs apartment, my mother LOVED the fights that the landlord and his wife got into in the unit below us. My mom would lay on the floor, put her ear to the floor to try to hear what they were arguing about! Lol The husband was really jealous of the wife and was always accusing her of cheating. But my mom was on HIS side because the wife used to be nasty to my mom...lol lol It was a hoot! Great topic!

Now the thing about me preferring nosy neighbors because they can also be very helpful they can check in on you and see if everything is all right too and maybe if you're not doing okay they can help you. I feel like that's better you know cuz you feel welcome to the neighborhood and it kind of cancels out any other neighbor that was racist or whatever cuz it's like "oh yeah and we have a one or two neighbors that are racist or whatever but that one neighbor though that kind of checks in on me it's a breath of fresh air"

Combo of noisy AND nosy neighbours is the worst. They gonna be like proactively eavesdropping on you, from the back window, from the front yard, and at other times they gonna be actively loud just so you can hear them talking about the stuffs they got on you, of course they gonna do these verbal harassment passive aggressively so you cannot retaliate. but cuz these neighbors be so mentally impaired that they didnt even notice doing all that gonna hurt them more than it ever doing anything for me tho. It's so pathetic it's hilarious. 😂 Also I don't know if it's my neighbor or not but there are these cars that keep setting their own alarms off, but went quiet as soon as you get out to take a video of them. 😂

Noisy neighbors are grating for sure...but nosey neighbors are relentless...and sneaky sometimes. However, I HAVE noisy neighbors..and it is disruptive to my phone and video calls. In a complex, they aren't even above me...they are caddy corner and kids running up and down the hall, literally for hours..and often after 10 pm...and before 7am. That is not necessary...and I'm not a Karen...and don't complain right off...that is bull.
