The "roar-bark" can also sound rather...terrifying, depending on where you catch a maned wolf making that sound. It sounds exactly like how I would imagine a real-world "hellbeast" would sound.

unfortunately, he lives in cerrado, brazilian savanah, and in the last decades the most productive area for farms in brazil is cerrado. i will not be surprised if they start to disapear dramatically.

the Maned Wolf (Lobo Guará) is the symbol of the Cerrado region in Brazil, pretty much where the capital is located. Beautiful and unique creature.

Nice joke, but we find weird species like that in the wild pretty often actually. Its what evolution produces, with change over time, you're bound to find species that are undergoing adaptation changes that seem odd or out of place. In other words, the maned wolf could be a species of deer in several thousands of years from now.

I live in southeast region of Brazil and once around 1am while driving in the city, I saw one of these guys running in the middle of the street, apparently scared. I followed it for a 100 meters or so and then he walked into a forest. They are not that rare around here with multiple sightings in rural areas.

In Brazil is called "Guará" Wolf. Guará means red in Tupi, a native tribe of Brazil. In fact, they are near extintion.

Here in Brazil this animal is relatively common. Here we call it Lobo-Guará. Other relatively common animals in Brazil are the Anta (tapir) and the Tucano (toucan). It would be nice to talk about them (if you haven't already). For example, I just discovered recently that toucans actually eat meat other than fruit.

"Lobo-Guará" like the natives call it! I remember when I was in 1st grade here in Brazil at a trip with my class in a place with some kind of "mini zoo", there was a Lobo-Guará there and the guide said it: Guide: Are you guys smelling that? Everybody: hmmm wow, such a nice smell ! Guide: It is Maned Wolf pee! Everybody: Ahhhhhh blergh!

This is of of those moments when nature just says _"fuck it"_ and just creates something bizarre. In this case, a creation that is part deer, part wolf, poops apples for ants to spread the seed and feed the colony and pee weed, but howls like a Lion-dog, but mates in April to June as July is just far too hot.

I saw one of these in Odessa Florida in the mid-90s. It was about forty or fifty yards away behind the lake at my grandmother's house. It was a brand new subdivision at the very early stages of development and there wasn't many houses back there. Itwas still kind of wild. I couldn't believe my eyes. I had absolutely no idea what I was looking at and the internet didn't exist.

In Brazil (wheres 95% of its territory) its called Lobo Guara or Guara wolf.

... Its an emdangered species due to deforestation at Serrado areas that are destroyed for cattle pasture and plantation of grains for meat production. Most cattle in brazil is what us calls "free ranged" and theres 2+1/2 cows in brazil for every 1 habitant. we grow up here listening to stories and legends abou the Lobo guara. its a magestic figure i used to admire at scholl but capitalism only finds beauty in money.

Here in Brazil they are rare and inhabit the central area of the country, mostly Pantanal which is wet and other open low vegetation and arid regions. They are named "Lobo Guara" in portuguese.

We have maned wolfs in my region although ive never seen one in person, i hope to someday, my dad has a few times since he works in field studying plants

@@LindaC616 There are lots and lots of werewolf stories where I live in Brazil. Someone seeing an animal like this in the dark or from very far away might easily mistake it for something unnatural and then claim they saw a werewolf.

@@LindaC616 Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that they were the origin of the legend. I figure that people just saw them and maybe thought they were werewolves (meaning they had already heard stories before that). Offhand, I imagine maybe some other animals in England had something to do with the origin? Also, I didn't know werewolf legends originated in England. Thanks for teaching me something new!

@@jacobopstad5483 always great learning about other places! Somewhere in Europe, they originated. I can't remember if they had wolves a lomg time ago, I know Spain had bears. And Germany, of course. I had heard of these before, but had no idea they were in Brazil...thought Brazil had caimanes, anacondas, jaguares and macacos!

Here in Brazil we call him of "Lobo guará", and sometimes we can find him in the roads, farms, ... At all It's really cool and beatiful animal

Hyena skulls are far too different :) but I did get that movement feel of a Hyena, as if their front legs are longer than rear.

Red wolves are a lot closer to dog than Cheetah is to anything else. For some reason I thought Cheetahs were Panthera genus, but I was plainly wrong.

0:47 the Range Map for Maned Wolf it's not quite complete, there are parts of the map that are not covered by red and in which it's currently living in (and have been living in for many years, especially in Argentina).
