Since we're sharing stories, here's one that's happened to me a year ago (TW warning: minor sexual harassment) My dad's brother and his family have two sons, and live in Seattle. One of them's a toddler, and the other's just a few years younger than me. We were visiting them over summer vacation last year, since they just bought a huge new house and wanted us to come and see it. We stayed there for around 2 weeks I think? During that time, me and their two sons shared a bathroom. I usually used it first in the morning to shower and brush my teeth, since I woke up earlier than the two of them. I think this happened on the second week, but the older son had apparently woken up before I went to use the bathroom. I hadn't noticed him until I'd moved to close the door, and he literally blocked the door with his foot?? I asked him what he wanted, but he didn't say anything and just grinned (mind you, this was my younger cousin, so I was INCREDIBLY weirded out...). After a few minutes of trying to close the door and asking him what he wanted, he said "I want to see you naked". Like...what??? This was a LITTLE KID telling me that he wanted to see me NAKED. and with a creepy grin, on top of that... my parents and his parents literally treasure him like he's the messiah, so I didn't feel comfortable telling them about what he'd said. although ever since, I've been extra careful to lock the bathroom door before I use it :/

Whenever I'm alone, and someone catcalls me, I get scared and freeze, and don't do anything because they might come at me if I do or say something. But when I'm with my friends, and someone catcalls us, I either give them a 🖕 sign or tell them 'fuck u,' and to be honest, it feels good to be able to fight back and show them I hate them. He didn’t even care about the woman, but rather the power he could achieve from exploiting her situation and alpha-ing a ‘traditionally masculine’ man.” And my male classmate interpreted that as, “Yeah, it’s a serious double standard that women are protected when they’re attacked, but men being attacked is seen as powerful or masculine.” And I was just like 😑 That’s not the point, Brad! Of course, that is true - women are seen as more “emotional” and “delicate”, and deserving of protection - but this was literally a completely false equation where a police officer was subduing a domestic abuser. I was simply stating the reasoning for the police officer’s actions, not critiquing the situation. And he _had_ to make it about the man 🙄🙄😤
