Founded by actress and entrepreneur Tia Mowry, 4U by Tia will be sold in over 2,800 Walmart retail stores in the U.S, on Walmart.com, and on the direct-to-consumer website 4UbyTia.com. Amyris will be operating the brand as part of its clean beauty portfolio of brands.
The brand is launching with a full line of eight products formulated for 2A to 4C (curly) hair, all of which contain Amyris' patented Hemi15TM, a breakthrough ingredient that nourishes and protects textured hair. The line is 100% vegan, silicone-free, sulfate-free and paraben-free. The products are safe for color treated, keratin treated, chemically-treated, and relaxed hair.
Hemi15 is created using Amyris' proprietary Lab-to-Market platform, which leverages precision fermentation to create molecules that are bioidentical to those found in nature and traditionally derived from finite sources (including animals, plants, or petrochemicals) to create sustainable ingredients and provide better, healthier options for the products people use every day.

If a Black woman did that to have a career and is finally liberating herself, I wouldn’t have an issue. For a biracial woman that’s not even Black-passing to do it when she has worn her natural hair out and Black people loved it, I don’t think it’s okay. I think she wore weaves to connect to her Black side more. She straightened her hair on Sister Sister, no weave needed. I’m getting “I wanna be down” vibes.

I have nothing but respect for any and every black trailblazer in the entertainment industry. Even more so for literally sacrificing their hair to be those women. And liberating and connecting with us natural sistas is cool, commendable even. But black hair care is complex enough as is. So if you’ve barely worn your hair, cared for it (without a stylist), lived in it (good and bad days) then that makes it hard to understand what’s needed in a product. It’s too foreign a world to them. The intention is fabulous, it’s the execution that’s lacking.

Well, we really don't know where she is going to take the product. It may encompass a large spectrum of women. You can't penalize her because you don't feel she is "black" enough. There are dark skinned ppl with loose curl pattern and vice versa. Maybe she is going to represent us. Maybe she has the vision. Did you tell Rihanna that you weren't using her makeup because she is lighter skinned or is a ratchet a form of approval? The judgement doesn't make sense. I like the Mowry sisters and think they would put out something of quality and affordability.

@purplepheasant4776 it's not whether shes "black" enough it's that her hair texture will never match my kinky coily texture....hers or anyone with looser texture and the problem is a lot of these products geared toward "black" women....really are geared toward looser textures🤷🏾‍♀️ but if you try it I hope it works out for you and your hair ❤️

This is why I don’t really support celebrity owned brands, especially if we don’t have the same texture. Most of them are money grabs imo and there are so many products on the market that will offer equal/ better results. Love your bravery in buying her line! When I saw her “let me be your black hair” video and what her hair looked like soaking wet, I knew there’s no way a line that worked for her would do a thing for my type 4 hair 😂😂😂. Unsurprisingly, the products that seemed to work best for you are what I’d expect- products that usually are independent of hair texture/porosity. I love the way the oil had your hair looking, but $5/oz is a bit pricey for me so my hair will just have to shine vicariously through yours lol. Also quite ironic to have a line called ‘4’ anything coming from someone with hair as far from type 4 as can be, (partially) targeted towards people with hair as far from type 4 as can be. Great review as always!

Tia isnt even Black, she’s biracial, so how is she representing Black hair. She and Tracey Ellis don’t have the majority hair type of Black American women’s hair nor the phenotype of Black women, they are visibly biracial. They are just pocketing off the movement that 4 type natural women have pioneered in last decade& jumping on the bandwagon for money grab. Pattern isn’t 100% black owned either if you dig deep into the ownership. So when you see a celebrity go straight into the retail stores like Walmart and Target or whatever, 99.9% of the time they do not own the company outright. They have major investors who own shares in their company so they don’t have to come out of pocket to produce a full line at retail scale which is extremely costly. But in all honesty, when a lot of them come out with these lines, it makes me feel like they’re doing it because it’s a billion dollar market where they can make some money. And not because they truly care about black women having suitable and healthy options for hair care. When I started my hair care line in 2014 I did it because I had recently went natural and there was nothing on the shelves that catered to my dry 4B hair. There were no products that catered to moisture retention, all the shampoos made my hair feel like plastic afterwards, and my twistouts always looked like wrinkled Cheetoes shaped strands. So, I was already making body butters and lotions and so I tried my hand at a hair butter. Also at that time, all the hair inspo pages we’re glorifying type 3 hair and some 4a hair. There was no community for those that were going through the struggle. So now when you have women who don’t really know what that struggle is today, nor showed interest in the struggle before today… it causes you to give the side eye… and I love Tia! I’m Bahamian, she’s half Bahamian, but she should’ve done a lot more videos and reels about hair and hair love first and then make the announcement of the hair line, it would’ve been even more accepting I think.

Back then I didn't know what my curls even really looked like and the concept of a healthy hair care routine was foreign to me : all I knew was that I didn't want my hair to break anymore because of relaxers. I’m 69years young😂 when I was in elementary school if a kid, boy or girl had hair like Tia and light skinned they were treated so much better than the boys and girls who had tight curly hair. So the chatter Tia is getting is because we know this isn’t for us.

And let’s also remember celebrities also have the luxury of hairstylists ! A lot of products get a boost when you don’t have to do your hair yourself. Carols daughter and Shea moisture really doesn’t work for my hair- it’s ok that things don’t work for me but I’m not out here buying products just for the sake of buying them. Those days are gone for me and content such as KZfaq and IG do impact whether I buy or not.

I feel the same about Pattern Beauty and Tracee Ellis Ross declaring herself as offering “Black hair representation”. No, she does *not.* If we were to do her or Tia Mowry’s DNA we would find less than 50% Sub-Saharan African Heritage. Tamera Mowry has 45% according to a test she took on The Real. Everything you said in this video is absolutely correct. We of the African diaspora definitely *still* lack representation as it pertains to our hair. 😢
@JG_SmileSOBright
@JG_SmileSOBright Жыл бұрын
I disagree. KZfaq caters to the 4B/4C hair types. I appreciate Tracee Ellis Ross and the Mowry twins bc their hair represents my hair. And honestly, all Black ppl are pressured to have straight hair, regardless of hair type. I'm the only person I know who has been a life long natural, but even I kept my hair straightened in my teens. 20+yrs of wash n gos later, I know I've been deprogrammed. Racism has created enough division. Let's be together in the natural hair space.
@hereforit2347
@hereforit2347 Жыл бұрын
@@JG_SmileSOBright: It’s not even about togetherness. I’m not talking about KZfaq either. I’m talking about *representation.* Tia Mowry and Tracee Ellis Ross are not representative of the core of the natural hair community. Where are the 4B/4C *celebrities* or just everyday Black women with haircare lines who use themselves and their own hair to advertise, promote, demonstrate, and represent their products? That said, the most popular KZfaq hair gurus and tutorialists are not 4B or 4C. And let’s be real, the vast majority of Black women have hair in the type 4 category anyway.

I had a feeling that cream on damp thick hair wouldn't properly penetrate...lol! They need to change those directions from damp to wet because no ma'am...or go back to the formulating drawing board. Always love your in depth reviews! You break it all down. I have loose curly hair but not interested in purchasing these products at the moment.

Aight, first I want to say THANK YOU, for taking the time. Secondly, This line was not only consulted by other influencers we trust, but also Alieze from Black Girl Curls! So I knew, that it was gonna be a partial no for you, because the methods/techniques she subscribes to, you don't agree with. I'm happy that it's not heavy loaded with heavy rich oils, and butters because you don't always need that, to wash condition and style kinkier tighter textures! It's truly about preference, and if you're a consumer that feels that's the only way then cool. But, I hope most who choose to invest, understands that trial and error is always gonna happen. Lastly, if a consumer takes this line, and uses it the same way they use everything else/ have to break it down to cost by ounce... then they don't need it! We live in a country, that always wants more for nothing! You can't do more with less! I'm happy Walmart has invested, in another company that is pushing clean ingredients. It's just gonna take people time, to realize that you can't use everything the same, and you can't just use it once to be sure! I also agree with your sentiments from the video she posted. One of the things tracee does well, is putting a broad range of people in her ads! Overall, does anyone need this line... NO, but again im happy that we as consumers have another option. Plus, due to ingredients, and the people invested in the project, I'll give it a fair shot someday. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTENT AND KNOWLEDGE ALWAYS 🧡🧡🧡🧡

Agreed. And that's why I outlined every likkle thing so people could make an informed decision. I'm an oil and butter girl, but I loved some things and that's why I even tried it in the first place, to be open about new products and experiences. Every product in a line will not work and that's okay. I saw you mention soaking wet hair on Alexis' review but that's something you need to take up with Tia and her team, lol. People always on us to follow directions but when we do..... we are told to do something else. Like you alluded to, we are all gonna be alright lol
