5:03 It's the Hamiltonian for the Hubbard Model, which simply describes hopping electrons and on-site Coulomb repulsion. Looks simple but it is still not solved as we still do not know its groundstate. :( But by Gutzwiller Approximation (which is really easy physics), on concludes that the Hamiltonian describes a Metal going under a Phase transition to a Mott Insulator without breaking any symmetry. It's sad that there are generally not that much condensed matter memes...

Hubbard Hamiltonian is (relatively) simple but at the same time it can't be fully solved for any realistically large lattice, if someone did "solve" it that would be a big deal for condensed matter physics.

2min50sec: 1✓x implies linear root as in -1: regression 0 : constantium 1 : Linear progression ( continuum ) 2 : algebraic progression 3 : geometric progression 4 : exponential progression 5 : hyper exponential progression ( first order inflation ) ..... Although I personally prefer decimal (sets of ten) definitions. Binary or hexadecimal definitions are more useful for classical applications. Base 16 to Base 1024 definitions will be required for quantum applications. Base 1024 to Base 16k definitions for axionic computation. Base 16k to Base 1024k definitions for Planck computation. Base 1M to Base 1G definitions for Stephen Hawking computations ( Type 1 multiverses ). will refine the scaling rules later. ....

@AndrewDotsonvideos6 жыл бұрын
The z component of the total angular momentum operator in quantum mechanics is denoted "J_z" (L is usually reserved for orbital angular momentum, and S is spin, giving J = L + S which is spin). When it acts on some state, you get the state back times it's associated eigenvalue, which is the observable.

Can someone explain the Jay-Z meme?
@MrNerd3141595 жыл бұрын
Im gonna assume you're unfamiliar with dirac notation |j mj> is a quantum mechanical state describing angular momentum. Mj is total angular momentum, j is the angular momentum in the z direction (since the z axis is our favorite child) These kinds of problems boil down to eigenvalue eigenvector problems- if you dont know what that is look up 3blue1brown's video on the subject. In brief it looks like this: Operator (i.e. matrix) * vector (eigenvector) = number (eigenvalue) * the SAME vector The eigenvector is the quantum mechanical state we're interested in (|j mj>) and the matrix represents some observable. In this case, the matrix/operator invilved angular momentum. Jay-zee (i.e. Jz) is the matrix operator that is the "algebraic equivalent" of observing the angular momentum in the z direction. So jay-z, the rapper, is a matrix whose eigenvalue is the QM state |j mj> and eigenvalue mj*hbar
