Sister appeals for justice for Danielle
The family of Danielle van Jaarsveld, who died in a car crash on Swartvlei Beach Road in Sedgefield 19 months ago, have turned to AfriForum's Private Prosecution Unit for help to “get justice for Danielle”. Danielle’s Kia and Gareth Webster’s Audi collided on 6 November 2022. AfriForum this week released a video of the wrecked Kia hurtling back a split second after the crash, as well as a voice clip by Danielle’s sister, Desiree Keating, raising grave concerns about the investigation. Webster’s lawyer, Eckert Brand denies AfriForum’s concerns about the investigation and says his client was willing to plead guilty to manslaughter in terms of a plea bargain, but that the family found this unacceptable. Eckert says the video footage has always been part of the docket, and that it “only proves that there was a crash, something that is not denied”. Watch the crash footage in this video that includes Keating’s appeal.

I think it terrible that this content is being shared without solid substantiation of the facts. Surely substantiation of the facts works both ways? Whilst I have enormous sympathy for your family and cannot even imagine the devastation you must feel, I also strongly believe that there are two families involved in this tragedy. Do you really think anyone ever gets up one morning and thinks - let me go and cause a fatal head-on collision today? Do you honestly believe that the accused and his family have not suffered? Do you seriously think that a single day has passed that they have not felt shattered by this. The onslaught of the media in relation to this tragedy has been extreme, incredibly biased and largely unsupported by factual evidence. This has had devastating effects on the accused and his family. My question to you is this: If the forensic report comes back and it comes to light that the accused was in fact not speeding, what then? The damage this has done to his character can never be reversed. The bullying that his children have endured as a result can never be undone. The tears that his wife, parents and friends have shed with him will never be unwept. So I urge viewers of this content to please give some thought to these things before pointing fingers and simply getting sucked into content that is clearly designed for sensationalism. By all means - attack police inefficiency and the legal system if it has not delivered. But, by the families own admittance the facts are lacking. Is it not therefore reasonable to suggest a measure of restraint before making assumptions, jumping to conclusions and causing even more anguish for a family that has already suffered beyond measure? This here is not justice. It is anger, blame and victimization. The sad thing is that none of this will undo what has happened here. In fact, all it does is prevent healing for all concerned.
