What do you say when someone tries to drag you into their own special nightmare? When you're buttonholed into a situation not of your making? When you're ready to chew your own leg off to escape?
We've all been there. This has now become my "go to" phrase, maybe it will become yours, too!
From the Hitman Blues Band, the title track of our 2021 release "Not My Circus, Not My Monkey".

Funny how we can hear music as old style, and yet some new music is also "old style". I think as we get older, some of those variations get lost because so many styles blend together. For example, 70s styles pop up in current songs, yet there are differences that make it modern - production, arrangement, etc. PostModern Jukebox is great at showing how this works - current songs restyled to sound like 40's or 50's music, yet they're the same song! Thanks, Mikey! I agree, the horn section was great. We had to do all the horns at once in a marathon session at a studio in Brooklyn that was big enough to have distancing (this WAS during the pandemic), so it was about a 10 hour session. The poor trumpet player blew his lip out by the end!

That's a pretty nice compliment! But I have to ask - have you heard any of the other tunes? Streets of Downtown, Blues Enough, No Place Like Home, Every Piece Of Me (those are ones there are videos for, we have 7 albums out). I'm wondering if those also have a Thunderbirds sound. I ask because these various "promote your act" courses and services ALWAYS ask "who does your band sound like", with the understanding that they don't mean "exactly like" but more "who's fans would you appeal to". I made up a list (several, in fact) but it's hard to be objective. I'm not sure if I'm even close. If you have a few minutes and can offer an opinion after hearing some of the other tunes, I would very much appreciate it! But either way, thank you for the kind comment!

Now THAT is one great compliment! A lot of the "blues world" thought the Blues Brothers were just clowns, not serious. They didn't understand how much they loved the blues (even though Belluci was fairly new to it) and how much their "silly characters" would turn on millions of fans to so many great blues artists. Thank you, Abhimanyu! I appreciate that you paid attention to the lyrics. One day, my bassist looked at me and said "you know - if you listen to the lyrics of a song, they actually tell a story." To my credit, I didn't hit him.

Thank you - THAT is a great compliment. I don't use vulgarity in my lyrics, because it's not necessary. When it's done well, I can appreciate it, but it seems a lot of comedians and lyricists use it as a "throw away" or for shock value. Lenny Bruce was fantastic at using it appropriately, as was Richard Pryor. If I ever DO use vulgarity in a future song, you'll know I considered it carefully before doing so!
