I found this unfinished edit of my cello learning progress and decided it was not too late to upload it anyways. I have always been and still am mesmerized by this beautiful instrument, so in my last year of highschool I fulfilled a dream and convinced my parents to let me take cello lessons (dropped the piano lessons instead). It was quite a challenge but luckily I already came from a musical background having had recorder and piano lessons for quite some time at this point. I kept up practicing the cello for three years in total before college got too much and I couldn't find the time anymore. But I hope to get back to it one day!
And sorry for the bad audio quality oops.

I am starting cello at 51 years old after playing piano for 20 years. It is so difficult! Your video helped to show me normal progress and I will try to be patient and easy on myself...🙂

Hope you’ve found the channel “Adult Cello.” He has lots of good advice about what to expect of yourself and how to help yourself feel good about your progress. My favorite advice he gives is to pick pieces to learn that are beautiful yet simple. It’s hard to feel good about your progress if you’re always playing nursery tunes, ya know?!

I started when I was 48. I live in a small town and a violin/piano teacher taught me cello for two years. Then she told me she had nothing else for me. So I played, watch KZfaq videos and slogged along ignorantly. I am now living near Las Vegas for 18 months and I'm taking lessons from a professional cellist. It is GREAT and I'm learning a lot. IT'S NEVER TOO LATE.

@@jeffmarett321 have you participated in any quartets? The thing I miss most about band is playing with others (brass band, but I'm considering picking up cello).

Developing an ear for flats and sharps at the very beginning is key. It'll help with every part of your playing.

Keep going for it! I've been playing Cello for 10 years and just got my grade 8 exam done (with a pass). Although it wasn't the most fun activity and sometime I had the thought of outright quitting, my parents nagging eventually got me to complete it. Also, amazing technique... I can't say that I have the same bow hold

There are many things you can play on cello! You don't have to play classical pieces if you don't want to. I'm in a string orchestra and we don't play classical music often, just fun interesting music

Just great for a year! you learned more than I did in a year!, I was so worried and anxious every moment learning cello in 7th grade! Now I'm in 9th grade! You may as find yourself not sounding great but that's the beauty of cello, its fascinating how much your articulation can improve with practice. I know this video was recording was ages but one word of critique is that your arm and hand is WAYY too stiff.

Hi, sorry for the late answer. This was my highschool graduation year, so learning the cello was not my first priority. I think I practised maybe 2-3 hours a week? I've had a lot of musical education before though, which certainly had it's influence on my progress.

Did you not read that she’s been playing for only (almost) a year? Cello is one of the hardest instruments to learn, even harder for adult learners as we don’t have the developmental capacity of young children. As a musician myself, I found watching her progress absolutely inspiring.
