The extra technical details have been enriching your newer reviews by a lot. Very interesting trick on this Razer, but I think I'd go for the 4080. I hear these Razers' black finish is actually very easy to scratch, have you ever tested that?
@NotebookcheckReviews
@NotebookcheckReviews Жыл бұрын
Well, I did not scratch it on purpose if that is what you mean. ;) But I drove almost all Razer Review Samples daily for some time, including carrying them in backpacks, etc. None of them showed any scratches or chips or something. I could not decide between the Mini-LED display or the 4080. I guess it depends on your wallet and if you have to do anything color-critical without access to an external display a lot.

As a 2019 Blade 15 Advanced owner, I’d say it doesn’t get scratched up under normal use, although I never kept it alongside my car keys in a bagpack, always in the dedicated laptop pocket. The metal edges can get chipped if the laptop drops from a table top onto the floor though.

I believe the Mercury version of the Blade 16 comes with a 4080 and the Mini LED Dual Display. In Canada you just have to pay a $200 premium just for the Mercury finish unfortunately but its worth it to not have a dirty matte finish.

There were some bugs resulting in a slightly lower performance than 4080 Razer Blade because of a lower than usual wattage at specific settings. It has been fixed now with the latest firmware , increasing the wattage and increasing the performance significantly.

@@NotebookcheckReviews I just realized it wasn't part of the BIOS update, however, it was a software update through synapse with that performance improvement listed. I did both at the same time so I thought it was a combined thing. It pulled more wattage on average after that. I returned it due to a pixel defect though. It was a few days ago and some other owners wrote about that synapse update as well. I will try the MSI Stealth Studio 16 with a 4070 now, perhaps I will be happier - actually preferring a more portable device coming from 14 inch.

Tough decision. I prefer the Display of the Duo, but only because of the more robust software solutions (sRGB profile, single-zone toggle) The Blade has the edge regarding port selections, but apart from that they are pretty similar. The Duo is faster, tho and is a bit fancier with the second screen and all, but the Blade has the better chassis and looks a lot cleaner ... I will think about it :D

Hi, thanks for the amazing content! I'm planning on getting the M16 rtx 4080 without the Anime Matrix. Apart from the increased portability, it also has the advantage of the single zone option for more color accuracy during photo editing. Shall I consider the Razer blade 16 mini led rtx 4080 (Mercury) or 4090 instead of the zephyrus M16 for better cpu/gpu performance, increased display resolution and a full SD card reader? The blade is 1000 euros more expensive than the zephyrus here in Europe. I'm looking for a portable laptop "all in one" for photo editing, gaming, watching movies and productivity. Is the consensus this laptop will simply not work for creative work (editing photos in LR and PS)? You mention a lack of SRGB profiles. Can you not just create a calibrated SRGB profile with Xrite and use that for SRGB work? Or are you saying the panel runs in a native DCI-P3 mode and won't work for SRGB? I have this on order, and I want to us it for gaming and Photoshop/Lightroom work. Would you suggest canceling my order? Thanks for any/all feedback!
@NotebookcheckReviews
@NotebookcheckReviews Жыл бұрын
Hi Brian, it is more complicated than that. I do not know on what level you are working. But I was working on a high-profile commercial retouching job when I had the chance to test the Blade 16, and even after calibration, contrast and colours looked off in Photoshop. But I had a "professional" display that was hardware calibrated as a reference, so your mileage may vary. In general, the Blade is an excellent laptop for that kind of work; its display makes things a bit more complicated. And yes, you can create your own sRGB profile if you have the tools. Please keep it on order and try it out for your workflow!
@briansmith4241
@briansmith4241 Жыл бұрын
@@NotebookcheckReviews Thanks for the feedback and sharing your experience. I do have an Xrite. If I understand the lack of an included sRGB profile situation correctly, that will mean in non-color managed programs images could be oversaturated. However, if I created an sRGB profile with Xrite I could use that in all color managed sRGB programs and it would appear correctly. Do I have that correct? When you say the colors looked "off". Would you say there was a night and day difference or a very minor difference? Thanks again!
@NotebookcheckReviews
@NotebookcheckReviews Жыл бұрын
Without diving super deep into colour management theory, when you use your x-rite, you will "just" correct colour reproduction within the display's specs. But without a professional application like CalMan, you cannot create a profile that "limits" the colours to smaller gamuts. So in the Razer example, it natively covers almost the complete DCI P3 and Adobe RGB spaces. Profiling the display with your X-Rite will help color-managed applications to properly "translate" between your chosen work profile (sRGB, for example) Some applications (like Davinci Resolve) can not do colour management in the same way in the GUI, so it's the screen's task to display the true colors, and this is where either a hardware-calibrated screen or an sRGB profile comes into play. I know this is a very niche use-case, but given that the Blades usually cater to creatives like video editors, I thought I mentioned it. When I said it looked off, I would say, in the end, I would not trust the display without an external screen for high-end color-critical work. For example, when I edit a photo that shows a product, that has to be a specific colour. I hope that made sense :)

@@NotebookcheckReviews Thank you. Your information has definitely helped. Speaking of Xrite (or Calibrite) I could not find a single mention of it working on mini-led panels. The specs list OLED, but not mini-led. Can you tell me if the Xrite has an option to choose mini-led? Thanks!

To answer your video's question of whether to buy it (or 18"), no for two kinds of reasons. The keyboard does not comply to my needs. Normal-sized arrow keys and complete keys (primary or secondary) are essential and a mechanical keyboard would be much better. (For 18", I also expect a normal-sized numpad in standard layout.) There must not be any PWM flickering. The price €4350 for a 4080 model is above what I can afford. I appreciate the value of a vapor chamber and low noise but there are limits to what it is worth. Razer is not just a bit too much - the order of magnitude is above €1000. Suboptimal support is not an encouragement for an excessive price, either. Wich screen is better Blade 16 or Asus M16?
@NotebookcheckReviews
@NotebookcheckReviews Жыл бұрын
Tough. It comes down to personal preference. The QHD of the M16 will be easier to run, but it is not as "crispy" as the 4K Razer variant. The Razer screen also gets quite a bit brighter in SDR, but the Asus Screen can toggle the backlight as a single zone, which is huge if you are into any professional photo or video work.

Some titles in our standard tests for the performance rating are pretty old and heavily CPU bound, which can sometimes lead to "weaker" GPUs performing better or on par with higher-end SKUs, especially in 1080p. That is why I always try to include newer titles at higher resolutions. We still keep those older games in our rotation to give you guys something to compare to in our database!

I thought the same when you asked your question, but since Razer put 4TB on their website for the maximum supported storage, you might be out of luck since they stack the two slots. Unfortunately, I do not have any double-sided SSDs on hand, so I can not try. But I will ask Razer!

I wish there would be a similar design, but cheaper, even if it's plastic. I don't like the excess curves, colors and RGB manufacturers are putting on their gaming laptops. I know RGB increases FPS, but still... It's ironic how the most simplistic design is the most expensive.
@welshmouse
@welshmouse Жыл бұрын
The reason it's become so ubiquitous is because it's basically free. They put about 3 dollars worth of LED's in these laptops to get most of the effect. A Plastic version would also have to be a completely new design as it has different thermal characteristics (would need to be thicker again), and at that point, you may as well just be buying a different brand. Check out the helios 16 or new legion if you want cheaper, but razer makes high end devices.

I feel you. I wish Asus, for example, would streamline their strix chassis a little. Keep the shape, but add a metal keyboard cover and get rid of most of the ROG tidbits all over the chassis. That would make for a great laptop.

I love everything about this except the stupid gimmicky display. I had one of the previous ones with the high resolution IGZO and Gorilla Glass displays, it was my favorite computer. But this display makes no sense. No one is actually rebooting to run at 1080p, especially at 16". And all the other vendors have the much better 2560x1600 MiniLED displays at 240hz refresh rate. That's perfect. It captures the pixel density, the performance, and they even have a single-zone backlight option for color accurate work. Razer tried to differentiate themselves with a more expensive feature that actually detracts value for most customers. Blegh. Do better, Razer.
@NotebookcheckReviews
@NotebookcheckReviews Жыл бұрын
I agree. I rarely found myself rebooting, even if I was playing a faster game. I also owned a Razer Blade 17 with that, oh so sweet, 4K touch IGZO panel. That thing was a dream for work, games and videos. A friend is using that one nowadays, and whenever I see that screen, I am like, yeah, that was a good one. They should do a 120Hz 4K 16" variant for that one.

wow since when did laptops cost as much as cars nowadays, designed for the only rich kid who has never worked and mummy and daddy pay for it all. My guess it will have serious thermal issues down the line like all overpowered gaming laptops. Seriously you can build a very high-end pc at this price range of this and it will last a longer. Nvidia need to reduce the cost of their stupidly overpriced cards. the Frame generating feature is a joke and a way to cheat benchmarks.

@@Loiiiiiiiiiii Im not angry, I am furious with a company that is plainly greedy, that corners the market due to the sheer evolution of LLMs, Nvidia, obviously have inferior manufacturing methods because every year their high-end product lines seem to go up in price not down or even plateau. Nvidia are becoming too greedy and they need to think about the consumers in general. Although the RTX4090 is a beast in itself it is plagued with performance problems, graphics cards should be leaps ahead by now but unfortunately they are too power hungry and unstable at higher clock rates (same old same), Nvidia know this they are slowly creeping out higher specs each year but truthly they are capable giving us more efficient low cost graphics hardware that we will run far better than the crap they keep spewing out to consumers. And for your info no im not poor and im not rich either but that doesnt make me insecure, I just have my eyes opened and dont think something is magical just because it is expensive like some naive people.
