We live in an old Northern Calif Black Walnut orchard. So I bought a mill. I just hit a nail.... not the first. $25 every time....I scoured that 13ft log but one nail was below the bark. A little nail....1/10" but the instant you touch one you know..... Thankfully it's all walnut so the loss is acceptable....

I charge them for a new blade if they're bad enough, but I don't enjoy it as much as cutting my own logs I cut and skid.

FYI, the machine that will stack your lumber is called an apprentice or a helper. I'll bet you could find some teen kid of a friend or a high school kid or some body that might work for cheap over the summer for some extra cash. you ain't getting any younger and you could pass on a lot of useful info and lessons to a younger generation. Maybe think about it.

on other sawmill sites, they have a metal detector that they scan the log before it hits the mill, it's hand held and you manually sweep the log. I don't know about price but it is probably pricey but so are saw blades. I saw one on the T. H. E. Eddie Horvath & Mark Galicic channel. Love your site, I really enjoy watching you cut lumber etc. and I really like that you explain everything,

The reason it took you 4 weeks to get them wheels was, it takes them awhile to float them across the ocean. Our weather is like yours here in va. I got a bunch of cedar to mill up. And I got a customer that just hired me to mill up a bunch of black walnut. I get all my blades from Joe Maine. Nails in logs it kills me. I like when there is 5/6/7/8/9 nails in a group like what the heck was they trying to hang up ??? Good job.

Carbide sawblades add time to the resource I cannot change my hours as I change blades five to ten times less and most nails and small bolts do not ruin blade. Carbide cost much more but I gain time by not changing as often and am able to saw through most iron without wrecking blade. When blade life is factored into costs and lower stress on sawmill as blade stays sharp cutting as if new until damaged carbide is a no-brainer and I never need spend time or money re-sharpening.

Nathan, another informative video. The reason is your wheelbarrow tires were on that slow boat from China. I quess if you wanted those tires quicker you should have asked one of those immigrants, entering across our Southern border, to bring them along. What about those racing rims?

Nathan, I don’t know if you mentioned your new equipment building about the siding , how about using the bark side of the cutoffs as you prepare the cant for siding, isn’t those slabs good protection for buildings ? Just asking👍👍

Don’t feel bad. My train of thought derails at the drop of a hat also. Ever watch Lumber Capital Log Yard? Small family operation in north central PA. They have a LT 70 Wide due to show up this week after running a LT 40 for the past 4 years. Maybe you could offer Emerald and Jade some operating suggestions.

Nathan, hopefully soon, they will come out with a C3PO, to stack you lumber, for you. Also hopefully, one not as obnoxiously talkative as the original. 😁✌🖖

That's funny a load of logs comes in with painted ends ONE day after Robert Milton's video about Not painting your logs. Lol.

Just wondering: Would a metal detector be useful to you? We used one at my woodturners' guild. Saved a lot of bandsaw damage!
