Notgrass History's From Adam to Us is an excellent and thorough history curriculum for middle school. We have LOVED this program. In this video, I give a full review and in-depth look at all of the components this history program offers.

How long does each lesson honestly take if you do all the things?
@beyondthebookshomeschool
@beyondthebookshomeschool 12 күн бұрын
@@jessicajones611 This would depend on a number of different factors: age of the student, the student’s comprehension of the text, how well he/she understands what the questions are requiring, how focused or distracted the student might get while working. My 8th grader didn’t ever do ALL of the components, especially the literature, but 3x a week it took him anywhere from 45 mins to an hour to read the lesson, complete student workbook, map, and thinking Biblically.

Thanks for this thorough review! I am looking into this curriculum now and I figured I’d check KZfaq for a review. I bought Biblio Plan year 3 , but I’m not thrilled with it. It’s a bit much to me. Your video solidified my decision on this Notgrass curriculum. How many days a week did you do this history to get through part 1 in the school year? I’m thinking I might have my 9 yo sit in on this history as well. I really wanted to do family style that’s the main reason I chose Biblio Plan 🤔

I honestly have never heard of Biblio Plan until you mentioned it. We made it through Part 1 doing 3 days a week 😉 We are also planning for 3 days a week for Part 2 for this upcoming year.

@@beyondthebookshomeschool definitely can’t imagine getting through from Adam to us in one year. We actually are doing just the volume 2 since we have been doing MoH and seems like several of the topics were covered already that are included in volume 1 of from Adam to us. What other history programs have y’all tried?

I’ve been trying to decide on a history curriculum this was a very good review. I typically dislike reviews but this was short and to the point and I can appreciate it a lot. Thank u. I wanted to ask you I read above u do 3 days a week in those 3 days are u doing a lesson each day or do u split the lessons up?

Thank you. I’m glad it was helpful! We split this curriculum over 2 years: part 1 grade 7 and part 2 grade 8. When we do 3 lessons a week, it is a full lesson each day.

Those novel questions, is that in the Student Review book or the Student workbook? This program looks wonderful. What age is this best for if I plan to use it for two student of two years apart. Thinking I could use the Student Review book for my older student and the Student Workbook for my younger.

The novel questions that I featured in this video are located in the Student Workbook. There are only about 4-5 questions each for the novels that Notgrass suggests to read. Your thoughts of using together with two of your kiddos would work! This curriculum is suggested for grades 5-8. The Student Workbook would be great for your younger kiddo and the Lesson Review book would be great for your older kiddo. How does this compare to Mystery of History please?
@beyondthebookshomeschool
@beyondthebookshomeschool 3 ай бұрын
I have never used this program, but I did research it before choosing. I think The Mystery of History is geared towards families who wish to do history as a family. It seems like it can be done this way because each volume (textbook) has activities geared towards early, middle, and high school. Therefore you read together as a family and each kiddo does an activity at their own level. To be honest, when I looked at the scope & sequence I was confused about not necessarily going in order of events. I began homeschooling my son in 5th grade, so I knew I wanted to cover American History. I also wanted a Biblical worldview and a literature component. Notgrass History’s program America the Beautiful met all of the criteria that I was looking for. So I chose that program and we both thoroughly enjoyed the program, so we have just stuck with the Notgrass history curriculums. We have also used American the Beautiful and Our 50 States.

I love and appreciate scripture in curriculum. However, writers interpretation of gospel and their thoughts I do not. How much references to our Saviour is there or interpretations of Jesus and his ministry? More how much is interpretation of Jesus and the gospel within the text. I am not worried about the end section, ‘thinking biblically’ extensions because that can easily done or missed. I think spreading this out over 2 years looks a good idea. If done over 2 years, how many lessons a week did you do? Did you find it better doing X no of lessons a week, like 2/3 lessons a week, but spread over 5 days. I also in a fb group and lot of people said 3 hours to do everything in a lesson?

@@jessicajones611 I have found all of Notgrass curriculums to be true to the Bible. Since I fully believe the Bible to be the truth, I appreciate how Notgrass writes their lessons to help children gain further understanding of what is written in the Bible. This specific curriculum focuses on world history, so it starts “In the Beginning” just like the Bible. There are many lessons that come from the Bible since it is world history. I would highly encourage you to check out one such lesson, Lesson 18 God Leads the Israelites out of Egypt to see if this would be a good fit for you. I’ve included the link where you can read the entire lesson here notgrasshistory.b-cdn.net/from_adam_to_us_part1.pdf
