Hall of Famer Eddie Murray had a career for the ages, starting with over a decade as the switch hitting power threat in the glory days of the Baltimore Orioles. My fellow O's fan, Cam 23, lends me a hand in analyzing his Insane Prime™️
Relevant Players: Charles Murray, Leon Murray, Venice Murray, Rich Murray, Earl Weaver, Lee May, Andre Dawson, Mike Flanagan, Jim Palmer, Mike Boddicker, Rick Dempsey, John Lowenstein, Cal Ripken Jr, Daryl Strawberry, Deion Sanders, Carlos Baerga, Manny Ramirez, Albert Belle
Research Credits at the end of the video.

Eddie Murray led all of MLB in batting average in 1990, but did not win the title in either league. Willie McGee played most of that season with the Cardinals and was leading the NL in hitting when he was traded to Oakland. McGee qualified for the NL crown, so he won out even though he spent the final weeks of the year in the other league. And though Eddie Murray never won a league MVP award, he led all major leaguers in MVP votes for the entire decade of the 1980's.

Should note that he started switch hitting in the minors because he struggled hitting breaking balls from right-handed pitchers. It's rare to master switch hitting as a pro. It saved his career.

He didn't speak to the media because he had a beef with them over something about them and his mother. If he hadn't ended up with 3000 hits and 500 home runs I'm guessing the writers would have tried to pass him over for a couple years for the Hall of Fame bc they really hated that he ignored them

I would put Murray in the same category as Biggio, as great as they both were in many areas, their greatest strengths were probably their durability and consistency. Also, Craig Biggio has the modern record for HBP, but he's also only 2 behind the all time record that was set way back in the day. I'm trying to start an online campaign to get him to come out of retirement just to get beaned 3 times and take his rightful record, just like Mr. 3000🤣

Being honest,Eddie was an amazing player!.Not the nicest dude though..As a real young kid I caught a lot of Dodger games and waited outside to see the players after games..Eddie could be rough. It wasent Eddie not signing autographs.A lot of players were like that.Eddie wouldn’t even acknowledge a person’s existence..He would walk right through you.Even bang into people then yell at them to get out of the way..He seemed kinda tortured..But all these yrs later I hear good things about Eddie and charities and just being a good guy..He seems much happier now! I even see him smile nowadays!
