I brought 1 home in Jan & m enjoying every min on it. This is a pc of fun machine & comfortable enough for route trips. Put on a pair of panniers & will be off to Golden Triangle in 8 weeks time, going to do 2-up 6000~7000km. Both the front & rear suspension are fully adjustable to suit your weight & riding style. Spend sometimes setting it up & you will love it. Btw this bike kind of reminds me of my old, trustworthy & fun 2002 Yamaha TDM 900.

I own a 2017 Yamaha FZ-09 and its an excellent bike. I absolutely love the cross plane triple motor, handling, brakes, comfort, and rider modes on it. Putting the FZ-09 in aggressive/track mode makes it a beast for its motor size (849cc).. I love Aprilia and if i had $18,0000 i'd buy an Aprili Tourno in a heart beat!!!!

Some say they wouldn't recommend this as a beginner's bike for A2. What are your thoughts on this? Also, could you maybe review the latest model of the Kawasaki 650 Vulcan S. It's also on my wishlist :)
@NothingToProve
@NothingToProve 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, Wow, that is a huge difference in bikes! Cruiser vs. naked. I'd take the Shiver all day long over the Vulcan but as a beginner...hmm, now that's a different question. I believe that the Shiver would make a great second bike for any body. But first bike that would depend on the size of the person. Say my size, 176 cm and larger, it could do as a first bike. But the person needs to have a type "A" personality or his skills will grow much slower than normal vs. if he were to start out on a smaller bike. I've seen this happen many times in my riding career, it's sad to see someone progressing slowly because the bike is too big for him. The Vulcan is on my "to do" list. Sooooo many bikes, soooooooo little time.
@BenalRida

Monster will be a little more reliable than this but when you get older bikes, then it's more about what you are willing to do (yourself) on the bike and do you trust your local dealer. I do like the looks of the monster better though :)

Nice bike I have owned for about year. But the weight turning ratio and heavy clutch made me to sale it... but I was using it as daily commuter. The think I'm really missing is that seat and the position u r on....
@megaFINZ
@megaFINZ 4 жыл бұрын
The deal with the clutch is that you don't have to use it much. For upshifts you can either don't use it at all or move it like 5% or so. For downshifts I move it around 40% in a quick two-finger pull. Doesn't cause any noticeable strain to me. The weight is a different story though, going to rid of mine too because of it.

@megaFINZ
@megaFINZ 4 жыл бұрын
@@impact0r I don't think so, I guess it's just the weight distribution of a particular bike. I bought R1200RS as a cruiser bike, it weighs 20 kg more, but feels much more solid and comfortable to control. Another major negative point in SL900 for me turns out to be cornering stability: I don't feel secure in corners, especially in bumpy ones. All the other bikes I've ridden (F800R, R1200RS, KTM SDGT, Honda Hornet) do not have that feeling.
@PAD32
@PAD32 4 жыл бұрын
I'd remove those sliders you put on your frame. They are very long and fixed on a single bolt... If you fall (which is why we put protections in theory lol) you have a risk of cracking your frame, which you really don't want to happen. Engine covers are not that expensive and easy to replace. A dead frame is a different story.

would you recommend Aprilia Shiver 900 more than two years old Ducati Monster 821 (very good condition, low mileage), same price?
@NothingToProve
@NothingToProve 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, I have not ridden the 821, other monsters, yes, but not the 821. So I cannot give you a honest evaluation. I do like the Shiver more so than the monsters generally speaking, especially the sound and torque. I'd take a new Shiver over a two year old monster any day. But if you need the name....well then you need the Ducati. It comes down to an emotional decision.
@kamien000
@kamien000 5 жыл бұрын
@@NothingToProve Thank you for your response. I do not need a name, Ducati just looks better to me. Trumph Street Triple sounds not good and I do not really like it. The BMW R1200R looks good, except for the boxer's very protruding engine. Aprilia is too modern, more like a sports motorcycle.

Great review! It seems to be a very undervalued moto. It goes for 8.320 in Greece. Ducati 821 goes for 12.500(!) and the 797 goes for 9.850. So I guess that you would feel even more tempted having in mind those prices! Is it comfortable enough? Legs are in very acute angle? And is it a bit too greedy for gas, or on par with the competition?
@NothingToProve
@NothingToProve 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Nestoras, yes, I was very impressed with this bike, the only small complaint is the turning radius but that is a very minor complaint. Comfort: well I'm 176 cm tall and I felt like I could ride all day without a problem but if you are a little taller than that, go for the Dorsoduro, it is a little taller but plenty of leg room. The fuel economy is about normal for the group, especially if you compare it to the Ducati's.

NothingToProve Thanks for the reply m8! I found an 11 months old 2017 model with 4.500km on the clock, for 5.900! Tomorrow I am gonna travel some 360km (both ways) on my scooter to check it up and if as in the photos purchase it! It was rather unexpected since I was thinking for something more classic like the Moto Guzzi V 7 but seeing all this beauty and quality, combined with the price, I can't resist. And already checked there are some parts that allow you to lower the pegs by 2.5cm so I guess I will be ok. I would consider Dorsoduro since I am heavy and wouldn't mind longer suspension travel, but you and other reviewers said that its more snatchy than the Shiver, plus a bit worse on fuel consumption (plus there is none practically new on bargain price lol), and I am a bit old for supemotard! Not to try it, to own it! Wish me luck for tomorrow!

Hey there! I went all the way to Patra from Athens on my Piaggio Medley 150! Through a hurricane and back! I covered overall 450km in 10 hours on a scooter and the water went all the way through my skin to my bones hehe! Quite an adventure! Shiver 900 was there waiting for me. I checked it up, she was looking gorgeous and flawless, with not even a scratch! Engine was too agresive though for me, so was the position of the legs, too high the pegs and too far behind. To be honest it was a bit too streetfighter for me! The store was the dealer of Piaggio group in that city, so they had many other bikes. I asked to check the V 7 III. The position of riding was me. the engine was me too. They had one special, black with the green stripe as demo bike. 730km on the clock! Took it for a short ride since it was raining and she sounded right and felt right in my hands! They were asking for 7700 I got it for 7400! Brand new goes for 8.490 here the special. It will be ready on Tuesday! What a day! Thanks for the feedback on both those models, and your great reviews motivated me to look it up further and grab my scooter for such a journey!

I'm in the US and there's a dealer for these somewhat close to where I live. I've been considering one, as I can get a leftover 2018 for $7299. Anything I should be concerned about with long-term ownership? How does it handle a pillion?
@NothingToProve
@NothingToProve 4 жыл бұрын
Well, if you are concerned with long term cost on any Italian motorcycle, then maybe you shouldn't get one 🤔 Ducati, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi...etc. will all cost more than say the Japanese brands of course. I would ask the dealer what the cost is for first service and second and if it's still under factory warranty and if not then what is the warranty that they are offering if you buy this bike. And if you are willing to pay the above costs, then it's worth it to you cause then you are not surprised when you see the service bill 😊 Pillion, I don't know, but I've herd some guys say it's not bad for a middleweight naked bike, it compares well to the other nakeds in the group. Ride safe, Scott
