Notifier Slow Whoop Voice Evac Fire Alarm at the BYU Harman Building (HECB)

The Caroline E. Hemenway Harman Continuing Education Building (HECB) on the campus of Brigham Young University (BYU) has a fairly new Notifier system with System Sensor L-Series speaker/strobes playing a slow whoop tone and female voice message. It turned out they were just testing the system unannounced.

At my university in Iowa, they have System Sensor L-Series speaker strobes doing the slow whoop tone like in this video.

These are inside US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. I was there for the 1st ever Regular Season game and these went off during the Vikings team intros.

My school has the same speaker strobes and there outdoor advances are speaker strobes

One time I was in five bellow and I saw a white system sensor l series ceiling mount speaker strobe and a white system sensor spswhl and a red system sensor srl l series remote strobe in the bathroom

I feel bad for you having to evacuate when it was only a test. You would think whoever was testing the alarm would have had the common courtesy to notify the occupants in the building to disregard the alarm. If they just email everyone, not everyone’s going to be checking their emails so they should have announced it over the intercom to notify everyone. I feel the anger. My mom stayed at a hotel where the alarms went off. She started to leave only to be told it was just a test. I just don’t think it’s considerate to not tell people it’s a test. But at the same time, you should take all alarms seriously and treat it as a real emergency as well, I guess. Wouldn’t you agree?

Towards the end of the video a lady said that the BYU staff sent out an email yesterday about that they're going to be testing the fire alarms in this building between 7 to 8 AM but they were running a bit late

I wonder why they opted to use Advance or L series horn strobes on the outside?

My guess is based off the location is that it has something to do with the sprinkler system

The only thing they can use on the outside is an advance because the L-Series isn't meant for weather proof applications yet

System Sensor hasn't manufactured an outdoor version for the L Series product line although it could be under development.

My favorite setup is system sensor L series or Wheelock Exceder LED3 speaker strobes with the notifier whoop.
