Again, beautiful video and really informative. Random idea: I might be an unnecessary recycler, but if you need to cut off the curly bit of wire when removing a potting wire, maybe cutting off the length you might use for securing bonsai mesh would be economical? 😛

I was thinking it looked a bit too straight after you did the first wiring, but it turned out pretty good. Also you can use almost anything for the holes in the pots, I use some leftover mesh that is used to hold plaster on the walls, I even used tissue paper in one of my seed trays because i didn't have anything better at that moment, not ideal, but it worked quite well.
@notionbonsai

First of all , great job What i would do differently , I use butterfly shapes to attach the drainage screen , it doesn't wiggle at all and if u use U shaped wire sometimes particles get stuck between the pot and the screen, roots get under and might block the drainageholes, its a minor thing but it takes just as long to fold butterfly's , (I made the little U's when i was starting out to , lazy i know :) tying in : i don't cut my wires at all , i'm just carefull not to cross them over big roots , and keep them invisible , you can use a smaller gauge of wire and even steel wire ( especially if its a big tree) you can also attach them to chopsticks to prevent crossing the roots , why do i keep the tree tight in, the tree needs to be stable at all times, also when an animal or the wind knocks a tree from the bench it will keep somewhat moist with the pot still attached to it , it prolly survives if you come home from work after accidents like that happen. Every time you repot you are cutting the wire anyway to do rootwork. I noticed u use a very organic based bonsaisoil , when i was starting out i was rather afraid of inorganic soils aswell, now i use someting like 60 percent akadama , 30 % pumice and 10 percent biochar for something like prunus , for a maple i might add some bark as organic component because they like it. and for pines etc i will add some lava in 1 : 1: 1 mix, nothing wrong though with organic soils when trees are in development , like yours, for something like that i use i mix of 70 % cocochoir or bark based compost and 30% pumice, but i would put the tree in a training pot or a wooden box that is higher than a bonsai pot , water drains alot slower in shallow bonsaipots , when you use an organic bases soil it might get you in to trouble. the bonsaisoil mixture you use is very dependable where you live btw , some people don't have acces to great quality akadama, or they have alot of freeze thaw cycles wich renders the akadama into mud in one year , i use what works for me , it can be different for someone else. last : be carefull with doing alot of operations at once , besides incorrect watering , that is the number one reason, people kill trees (and i'm guilty to). bending a tree , repotting a tree , and making big cuts on a tree are stressfull operations, only do one at the time if you can ,and let the tree recover , in bonsai patience is key ,if there is one thing i learned from bonsai its patience , its the best therapy ever :) anyway keep up the channel , you are explaining it better then alot of other people on the interwebs !
@notionbonsai

Hey Johan! Thank you for your kind words and for sharing your insights on Bonsai care! I appreciate your tips on using butterfly shapes for attaching drainage screens and using smaller gauge wire to keep the tree stable. It's always good to hear about different techniques and methods that work for different people. I've seen a few people do that chopstik trick to tie the tree in! I'll have to give it a go sometime for sure!! Regarding the bonsai soil mix, I agree that it can vary depending on the location and climate. I do try to use a mix that is appropriate for the species and growing conditions of the tree. And as you mentioned, it's important to be careful when doing multiple operations on a tree at once to avoid stressing it out too much. I couldn't agree more about the importance of patience in Bonsai - it truly is a therapeutic hobby that teaches us the value of slow, intentional growth. Thanks again for your insights and encouragement, and happy bonsai-ing! 🌳🤗💖
