No, his arrange on his stance against methadone, despite repeatedly being told by others that his experience didn’t mirror their own or everyone else’s, speaks volumes. He isn’t educated about addiction, he just has a lot of lived experience, is reasonably intelligent, and is good at writing things that sound intellectual, even when they actually aren’t.

one side note that’s interesting to me - i became clean after heavy drug use for 35 years i’ve been clean for 2 years now first time in my life - during my hideous withdrawal which lasted about 6 months ( not the acute withdrawal the post nightmarish prolonged chronic withdrawal that i wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy) i read his book often about getting through and becoming sober - who suggested this book to me ? an AA speaker who had been clean for 25 years and said Russel Brands book was one of the better books about getting clean that he’d read - and it was it was REAL and it comforted me during some of the worst panic attacks I wish to never be familiar with again

Congratulations on becoming clean. That is a huge hurdle, and you're one of the few that made it. My daughter has been an addict since she was in her teens. She's 33. She has tried and failed numerous times to become clean. She's homeless now, I have custody of her daughter who is five. I haven't talked to her in months, it breaks my heart. I tried so hard to help her, I got her an apartment, got her jobs, ended up having to pay for her rent for some of the time, then ended up having to take her daughter, I often thought. Is this ever going to end?!. I had to step back and let her fall flat on her face and still she has not gotten clean. Some people just can't do it but as long as she's breathing there is hope. I don't know how your parents were, or the people that you loved were as far as codependent, but I was really doing the wrong thing by thinking I was helping her. But on the other hand I wanted her to have a chance. It just didn't work. Again, congratulations! I hope you never go back to that crap. I hope you take that addiction and turn it into an addiction of helping other people or speaking to other ppl! I wish you all the best in the years to come and hope you can pack a lot into these sober years of your life.

I've watched Brand's KZfaq before. While the titles are clickbait conspiracy theorist stuff, he will cite reputable investigative journalists and often mock ridiculous, unevidenced claims, (like that recent UFO alien guy). For me these allegations are suspect as they've only appeared after there's been a push to brand Brand as "far-right", (despite his long history of opposing the Torys and his praise of people like Jeremy Corbyn). If there aren't a huge number of further accusers coming forward, or any form of physical evidence the accusers have even met the man, it's fair to say it's a further smear campaign.
@NickKautz
@NickKautz 8 ай бұрын
Russell Brand is not at all a conspiracy theorist. His whole show is about following rational thought to logical conclusions. Journalists often fail to do this and lead people to false conclusions, who then believe the more probable conclusions are a conspiracy. It's easy to debunk the claims against Russell. If he did what was alleged, where are his efforts to keep the women silent? No texts. No testimony from the women. Nothing. No one would commit those acts without either pleading or threatening to keep them quiet, especially at the peak of one's social status. To jeapordize that position with the alleged misconduct when you could find whatever you want consentually, is highly unlikely. The journalists know how to manipulate, they probably reframed how these women view their own experiences, just so they could use them in the story.

This might be one of the rare instances where Dr. Grande's personal biases might have shown through. I've never seen Russell in a movie, nor his standup, so I can't comment. But I do think that Dr. Grande's takes on Russell's addiction recovery and conspiracy theories were unfair. Russel may have, at one time, held immature beliefs about addiction and looked to blame the substances. But in the last few years, I've seen a very mature stance on addiction from him. He seems genuinely humbled, balanced, and engaged in spreading love. As far as "conspiracies" and "lack of talent" go, "speaking nonsense", I would say that is also unfair. His fact finding videos are very concise, persuasive, and thorough. He shows all of his sources and doesn't miss-represent or distort them, and honestly, seems to have less bias and distortion in finding the truth, than what I saw from Dr. Grande in this video. Does he also make conspiracy videos? Maybe, I haven't watched enough of his videos to know. But when he goes on Bill Maher and rattles of pages of stats that go against mainstream narrative, this to me can only be described as courageous.

Thank you for this comment. I hope Dr. Grande acknowledges his, most likely, insufficient research in regard to Brand. He really turned his life around and has become a role model for many struggling with addiction. Brand isn’t into wellness in a pseudoscientific way. As you mention, Brand typically backs up his beliefs with evidence and is all-around eloquent in his delivery. This being said, I obviously have no way to verify the validity of the allegations made against Brand, but it is sad to hear that somebody who has been a beacon of hope for a lot of people in recovery is still dealing with the fallout of his reckless past.

Taking drugs to begin with is a “choice,” but no addiction is not any type of choice and not a single person expects to become nor wants to become an addict. I honestly hate when people with no skin in the game or any experience with actual addiction speak on the topic so matter of fact. As someone who works with addicts for a living, some of what you said was correct but much of it was behind a very clear curtain of ignorance imo. That’s not anyone’s fault because addiction is way too complex to ever fully understand unless you have first hand experience yourself. But people don’t realize just how wrong their perceptions and ideas of addicts and addiction actually are.

As an addict myself(sober now for 6 years) i couldn't agree more. Its only a choice at the beginning... addiction is so complex it just isnt as black and white as some would like to believe- alot of people just don't see that, unless youve been there or been close to someone in active addiction can you you start to understand the complexities - and not every case is the same. I think people need to have more empathy.

@@EmiFromMars You're right. Unless it's you, or someone very close to you, you don't really know what addiction is like. It might start out as a choice, but turns into the monster you never saw coming. It's so very painful for the addict and those that love them. It's hard to describe. Dr. G's bio says ( or used to say) he worked as a drug counselor. Empathy is important, but very painful. If you really care. Congratulations on getting and staying clean! @Harleyy18 Thank you for setting a lot of people straight about addiction, and the stigma that goes along with it. Nobody ever expects to become addicted, and they certainly didn't choose to be. It can happen to almost anyone, and if someone thinks it can't, they should keep their, apparent, disdain to themselves. You never know when a loved one might find themselves addicted. So, have some empathy. "There but for the grace of god....." ❤ ❤

This isn’t even close to the Johnny Depp case. Depp had one accuser who was clearly mentally unwell herself. And plenty of other women came forward to defend Depp. Russell admits he was a heroin addicted, sex addicted, mentally unwell Hollywood star. There are many accusations from many women. There are at least two cases where it is documented that women immediately were treated at rape centers after seeing Russell. There are text messages where one alleged victim literally said “When I said no, I meant no”. Russell responded with an apology. Can you think of one scenario where a girl you had consensual sex with would say that and you respond with an apology? What could he possibly be apologizing for, if not refusing to respect her saying “No”? Just because the dude has a KZfaq channel you like now doesn’t mean he wasn’t a total piece of shit a decade ago. Also I’m not sure I understand mentioning Spacey. that´s not how that works, it´s this kind of simplistic thinking that just makes you look stupid. there´s no such thing as "the government" or "the media" there are only people making claims. you evaluate those claims on their own merits regardless of who says them. sure you can adjust your priors by the information you have about the person making the claim, but that´s only one small aspect of figuring out what´s true or not. take a perpetual liar like trump for example. on the whole he´s full of shit, most of the time. but that doesn´t mean, he can´t also speak the truth by accident. also the other way around; just because newton also believed in spirits and fairies and alchemy, doesn´t mean that the principia wasn´t a monumental intellectual achivement that certainly pushed humanity a bit forward.

Not really. CTs think all people are coordinating some campaign against them - all politicians, or all scientists - which is utter nonsense. They don’t understand that many politicians are fighting for them, but in a system where gigantic bribes from billionaires and major corporations tilts the political landscape against the little guy. Or they don’t understand scientists are individuals with a passion for discovering what is true, and when they reach an overwhelming consensus, they are almost always correct. CTs make problems in society worse by allowing themselves to be easily misdirected into blaming groups who are not the actual problem & typically embrace far right positions instead. So true with media, where folks like Murdoch own multinational News empires which push anti-government and anti-democratic nonsense and anti-journalism because it results in voting patterns that helps Murdoch accumulate more wealth and power. So CTs rail against news sources that do not share their learned biases.

May I ask which one of Brand's conspiracy theories sounds like something Dr. Grande would believe? Honestly Russell Brand comes off as just a boring version of Alex Jones. @@dork7546 That makes me think you've never actually watched a Russell Brand video... being an over-the-top cartoon character is his modus operandi. Also, I really don't think it's accurate to call Russell Brand a conspiracy theorist, at least not by the traditional definition of that term. The traditional idea of a conspiracy theorist is someone who believes that a clandestine power is operating behind the scenes to control the world from the shadows, and that's not Russell's thing at all. Instead, he's more concerned with corruption in the media, politics and big business. He spends most of his time mocking news organisations for failing to report on things, and politicians who are caught lying or big businesses that have been caught doing shady things and have managed to avoid the consequences because the media has failed to report on it.

I normally agree with Dr Grande's assessments, but I've been following Brand for the last year or so. He does use some hyperbole and might have opinions that are a bit radical, but I definitely don't agree that his takes are "incoherent" or "nonsensical." He actually cites news stories and publishers and researchers when he addresses issues and he seems quite thoughtful and careful to state that his opinions are just opinions, and he's been very critical of both the left and the right when it comes to policy and governance. He's an eccentric and flamboyant character, and that's off-putting to a lot of people, but I think he's being unfairly criticized here. I don't think he plays the victim, and I don't think he suggests others should either. He's been very open about his personal shortcomings and poor decision-making when it comes to his past promiscuity and substance abuse, and he uses those experiences to warn others to avoid going down that path. He probably is somewhat narcissistic (like nearly every content creator on KZfaq) and he seems boisterous and extraverted, but he also seems genuine and someone who struggles to know the truth, and never claims to his viewers to have all the answers. One of his tag lines, in fact, is, "That's just what I think. You tell me what you think." I don't think there's anything disingenuous about that.

Russell Brand Legacy Media Witch-Hunt. Cry “Havoc” And let slip the dogs of war! Julius Caesar, Act III, Scene 1. The Sunday Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches published a “joint investigation” accusing Russell Brand of rape, sexual-assault. (What about flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality too? But I guess they’d be flogging a dead horse there!) So, Russell Brand is the latest target of a: “Cancel-Kulture Purge!” And there is a seemingly endless list of victims: Donald Trump, Elon Musk, Jordon Peterson, Nigel Farage, Tommy Robinson, Terry Gilliam, Julian Assange! Anyone who dares question the Globalist Marxist New World Order! My wife now has Alzheimer’s! It kicked in very soon after she’d had her 2nd Covid-19 jab in April 2021! And Alzheimer's cannot be cured! One day she’ll die from it! Many people are becoming Ill and many are dying because of that damn awful Covid-19 vaccination and that big Covid-19 con, that Russell Brand (and others) are now exposing! And it’s not just Alzheimer's but other bad things as well! Lots of bad things! Blood-clots, stroke, cancer, heart-disease, ME! And all that stupid sex stuff is a smoke screen! A blind alley! Ying and Yang? The male response to the female shape is the human race’s life insurance policy. Those damn females’ who are dishing out the dirt are typical woke apparatchiks. Puppets who I wouldn’t trust as far as I could throw them! And now people have to prove that they are innocent. And by the time they do that it’s years and years later and all the damage has been done! Damn the awful legacy media! Damn the awful journalist/s! May they rot in the lowest levels of hell! My poor little wife! Keep up the good work Russell! And now KZfaq have stuck their dagger into his back! Demonetarized him! Its all so obvious just what they are doing! Oh, and now our “wonderful” BBC have stuck the knife in too! Bless them!

i agree it´s somewaht misleading at first glance, there are and were actual true conspiracies after all. the difference is, once a conspiracy is backed up by reliable sources and/or scientific fact, it stops beeing a conspiracy "theory" and becomes just common knowledge, you might also call it conspiracy fact. but generelly we all know what we mean when we label someone a conspiracy theorist. somebody who´s credulous, who lacks any kind of critical thinking skills, who has no concept of bayesian reasoning or the scientific method in general, somebody who doesn´t know how to evaluate truth claims. disagreeing with someome, is not silencing, that´s called disagreeing with someone. it´s really not that hard. it´s not rediculous at all. russel brand meets all the criteria stated above + a veeery healthy dose of dunning kruger effect bolstered by his idiot following. that´s also not to say that he only and exclusively talks nonsense or hasn´t done anything good ever. he´s just a conspiracy theorist and an idiot as well.

Conspiracy theorist doesn't refer to those who sincerely disagree with the occasional mainstream take. Conspiracy theorist refers to those who base their identify around multiple opinions which are counter to the mainstream, and use these contrary opinions as a means of attention seeking. Basically those people who put ego before honest objectivity. Normally they won't have other means of receiving attention, such as talent or insights. So decide to just not shut about certain events instead. Also they typically categorize reasonable theories together with complete nonsense, for example you will find them discussing a reasonable theory such as a Mafia murder in the same breath as some quackery about big foot. The Mafia exists as a conspiracy, therefore conspiracies exist, therefore you can't dismiss my attention seeking nonsense about the CIA and Bigfoot. Well yes, we can.

What difference does it make - in any way - that some women weren't assaulted if the claims of the four who *did* go on record are true? And why does the fact that not all women accuse the guy of rape/assault make you wonder about those who have accused him? Of all the attacks on the investigation and the women making the allegations, this is maybe the weakest I've heard.

There's a difference between "trusting the government" and being a conspiracy theorist. There's a cognitive distortion known as "black and white thinking". The incentives on government employees and politicians influence their behaviour so that it is often not aligned with the interests of the people whose interests they are supposed to be serving/representing. In a black and white view, that means they are conspiring against the populace. In a more refined view, each action needs to be viewed in the light of their likely personal incentives, and a balanced view needs to be taken. For example, Bill Gates had a strong financial incentive to try to dominate the market for PC operating systems with a product that was good in parts but had major weaknesses, that was about money. The world is quite likely a better a place as a result of his personal drive, but that can be debated. He doesn't have an incentive to make people take vaccines other than that, now that he has all the money he can use, he would like to make the world he lives in to be better, or he would like to be remembered for doing good. It is being able to make these distinctions that distinguishes black and white thinking from well-adjusted thinking. I encourage you to investigate this issue.

Russell Brand is well respected for his journey from addiction and promiscuity to stable family man. Brand has always been honest about his journey and helped many others with his book. He has owned and taken responsibility for his addiction and behaviour and has grown up, and changed. In the U.K. Brand has a strong following on his KZfaq channel. And Brand was already a household name in the country back in the early 2000's . Brand does not 'make up' KZfaq content to make himself feel useful or good, he genuinely wants to bring information that is in the public interest to the public, he researches and gives his audience verifiable sources. Brand encourages debate. Brand is operating in the void left by MSM omission and lies, MSM is a mouthpiece for government and private interests, and people know that. Brand may be loud, or intense, he may use long words and humour that is beyond the understanding of some, but he uses his platform for the benefit of people who know that the mainstream narrative is questionable . Where is the informed debate in the MSM? The accusations against Brand are unsubstantiated. The police have not been informed of any complaints, no one has given statements to the police SO...Due process has not been followed regarding Brand being a sexual criminal. And a trial by media has ensued. Which is abhorrent. Brand us being burnt at the stake like the witches of old, and it is shameful that you also believe in this backwards pitch-fork bastardisation of justice.

This is just garbage. Imagine if people could just walk away from serious, life destroying crimes by just claiming they're were in a bad place then, but they're all better now and look how much good I'm doing now. People don't get to choose their preferred punishments for the wrongs they do to others. Neither can they "good deed" their way out of proper accountability. Also, you should read up about why rape and sexual assault are severely under-reporting crimes. Very often, victims feel helpless when faced with a perpetrator who has money and power while they have neither. Often they can't accept what happened to them and very often they don't tell others becuase they blame themselves. You don't know the women who accused him or their stories, so quit trying to smear them and their motives At least one victim consulted a rape crisis centre immediately after the alleged rape, so trying to claim these are just baseless accusations with no evidence shows exactly where your bias lies.

I think it is pretty standard in cases like these for the victims to hide their identity from the public. Of course they will have to reveal it, should they decide to sue. Reveal to the interested parties, not to the public. Cases like this, are just too intimate, embarrasing and humiliating. If people had to reveal their identity, many victims would stay silent. It is traumatizing enough as it is. Russel, on the other hand, has no such luxury. But he does, or at least should have, the luxury to be considered innocent until proven guilty. In the end, it is not a perfect system, but it’s hard to come up with a better one. Maybe one day somebody will have a good idea how to make it safer and fairer for everybody. Unfortunately, thatms how it is. Especially in our times: your reputation may be seriously damaged and you may still be innocent. That’s just how it is. He may even be wrongfully convicted. That happens, too. But it’s also possible, he will be vindicated, but still be guilty. Let’s hope truth prevails. I have no horse in this fight. I neither like not dislike him. I just observe as the situation evolves. My oponion though is similar as with Trump: I think he did most or almost most of these things, but I also think this is a hit piece. He was too successful and liked for saying thins others did not like. If it was someone closer to the influential circles, he would never have to worry about anything.

Ooof you've really missed the mark with this one good sir 😢 You usually research so well, but you have let us down here Grande. His book 'recovery from addiction' is a biography about all the ways he takes responsibility for his actions surrounding drugs. I think you're misconstruing his message that we treat addicts so cruelly in society, which we do. Secondly, he doesn't make conspiracy videos, he reports 'true news', where he researches the facts behind the headlines and tries to give you a more well rounded and non-propgandafied picture of evidence, so that you can decide what you think, rather than being told what to think. Absolutely no lizard people! (Well maybe ironically, you really have to watch his stuff Grande, he's hilarious!). Something else you got wrong: he's a HUGE celebrity in the UK. He was even more famous around ten years ago when he was on tv, his current youtube channel is quite niche comparitively- Everyone in the uk knows who he is, only some people know about his youtube channel. You got this very wrong, I urge you to read his book and watch some of his videos. He well known for his intelligence, sense of humour, philanthropy, very quick witt, excellent communication skills and vast vocab. He also, connects with his fans via this community he's made on youtube- very down to earth compared to other big celebs! Very grandiose yes, but thats his thing and always has been, he jokes about it all the time. When I google him at the moment, the press really doesn't reflect what the public seem to be saying in polls and on Twitter (X), people are really supporting him and believe this trial by social media is bull. As far as my opinion, I don't doubt that we all did thing 15 years ago that would be totally unacceptable now and would paint us to be monsters, but as for rape? Im not so sure. Why not go to the police? Why thousands of consensual acts but only 1 rape (don't these things usually come with a pattern of behaviors?)? Why now and not the last 17 years? Anonymous women being paid, but no police reports? It is strange. Unfortunately it will likely not go to trial and we may never know the truth. Grande I usually love your stuff, but sir you got this so wrong im afraid. Don't read the headlines and read a few chapters of his book or watch a few of his lizard people vids 😂 I am confident you'd change your mind!

I keep telling his followers that there are plenty of people speaking out on the subjects that Russell has been parroting for the last few years, and they need to find someone who isn’t riddled with the kind of appalling controversy that has followed Russell since the beginning. There are even reports of poor behaviour with women before he became famous. He’s really not someone to ride along with at all. Follow someone else who doesn’t have such a chequered history.

Secondly, let’s not act like there hasn’t been a pattern of “accusations” coming out against high profile men in the last few years that end up being either grossly blown out of proportion or flat out lies. Before you label a man as a predator, maybe find out if the accusations are true. And lastly, Russell’s joke about “I’d challenge any of you…” is just that; a good joke. It’s very funny, and I don’t see in any way how he was trying to play the victim. I respect Russell greatly for managing to get sober and maintain a high profile career, even through a divorce.
