Looking for a legend using a hand drawn map that is a 100 years old

Following a hand drawn map from 100 years ago looking for old home sites and cabin sites here in the mountains of New Hampshire. We are looking for old cellar holes and farms to go metal detecting treasure hunting and hopefully dig sum relics and coins. We are off the side of a mountain following the small brook that is on our map and we are basically in some terrible woods that has been over grown for decades. At the end of the day we do some metal detecting at a cellar hole that was a house from the 1800s and dug up a few cool things.

Yes, go back in the spring! Also, when you guys were standing near that huge boulder, I was yelling at you to detect around it. Back in the day, when there were few trees to obscure everything, that big rock would have been a landmark that may have drawn folks to it for many reasons.

Back in 1969 when I went to camp in NH. We went on a hike to an old grown over small village some where in NH. There were remnants all over the place ,but we weren't allowed to touch anything. A main road could be made out with many old rock foundations still intact . I always wanted to go back , but can't remember where it was .

See if there has been any LIDAR done on the areas you are interested in. It cuts through the trees and vegetation to show the ground surface with any irregularities.

Great idea. LIDAR is a game changer for finding old homesteads (and also mining activity). Vast areas of the US (and probably world) have been done and can be found with a little searching online.

You never know when you will find a site to detect which makes each trip an adventure that could lead to finding some great relics, a button is a great relic especially when found in a bed of sheet metal lol. You have things to take back after a hike that looked awful and only patches of decent walking ground, though it had some lovely looking places there. I have been very stressed today as Terry is at his parents home sorting and when I watched this video I could feel myself relaxing thank you Charlie, I feel a lot better now. The magic of Not Thursday videos happens again lol. Good luck and happy hunting and hiking, God bless you, Dame and NinJen love and hugs to you all Mary-Ellen UK

A. Goodyear and Son button at 13:36 is pretty cool. His son Charles patented a vulcanized rubber formula in 1844. These were made in Connecticut ~1826-1835. Goodyear tire was named for Charles an early rubber pioneer.

Wow what a poorly managed forest. Just think of the disaster that will come if there is a yea of drought and a single lightening strike. Fire will race through all that undergrowth and downed trees and then the tree huggers will cry why did that happen??????
