In this video I discuss both older and new Cole jaws, different Nova chucks and how to use my custom grippers in various situations. Also some turning video to prove it all works.

I use white rubber door stoppers, wider and taller than the originals, I have had no problems

This video was very helpful in an unexpected way: I built a longworth chuck, but it was about 1.5mm off-center. I realized from your video that I could tighten the grippers selectively to squash down and compensate.

Dennis, my understanding is the longer screws to adapt your original jaws to the Cole Jaws was to give versatility to turning, enabling you to turn your bowls around with out changing chucks, at least that was my take on it. Enjoy all your videos and also the tools that you sent me. Thank you.

Yes, I just got a set of these and read the manual. Using additional jaws is optional. If you want to do it, use the longer screws that came with the cole jaws. If not, use the short screws that came with the chuck.

I was about to give up on my PSI Chineese made jaw chucks, as the rubber grippers left marks on the bowls, and then bent, throwing the bowl onto the ground. The new grippers came yesterday. They fit the PSI jaws perfectly, and held my bowl securely. Thanks for this great addition!

That's one of the reasons I developed these. I had similar experiences with the OEM grippers on my chuck. Glad they're working for you.

suggestion... make new wooden spacers wide enough to bore a hole to fit around the grippers. glue in some wooden dowel pins and align them using the unused holes. this would space the bowl out properly and prevent the spacer pads from being thrown loose during turning

That's the best way to get the grippers. I always have them in stock. You'll love them. I'm always available to answer any question you may have.

I had to buy some of these grippers off of your eBay store. Those little button grippers do exactly what you say - they deform inconsistently and cause my bowls to be not-concentric, as well as always being at risk of my work flying off.

hey dennis, are those little grippers you make available for purchase?

you could make the foot of the gripper wider like 1" and would no longer need the spacers

Your grippers will work with the standard Nova mini cole jaws?

You should make the step larger diameter and rest the face of the bowl on that.

How do Cole jaws compare to a Longworth chuck? Is one better than the other?

Are you still making the grippers? I can't connect to your web page? I would like to have a couple sets of your grippers.

I still make them and they're always available. You can find me on my Pattern by Etsy site with the seller name SegmentedTurner.

Why not put a large washer between the bottom of the rubber and the aluminum flange. That is larger than the flange diameter. That way you can have the lip of the bowl supported against the Cole jaws, not have to have wood piece as stand offs and not mar the piece with the flange.
