I love the concept you used of the Golden Ratio! GReat choice of colors too! Your instructional videos are very well done, and you share your knowledge in nice presentation that really helps novices like me. I really enjoy and try to use all of your sewing tips.

If you happen to see this, can you tell me why a double roll is better than a triple roll hem? Or does it matter? Thanks
@jellyfish450
@jellyfish450 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it matters. The double will conceal the raw edge, which prevents fraying. That is the only job the hem needs to do. The tie out reinforcements will take any load or stress. If you want to add a 3rd roll, it would also be fine. Enjoy your project.

@@jellyfish450 ok thank you! i was just afraid that one single layer of fabric would rip with a 7/64 amsteel. but it appears everyone does double..and i don't think anyone has any problems.

Great job on your video, and to incorporate the Golden Ratio together. I really enjoy watching you create your next piece of gear. In this case for your Brother. I was wondering if the top fabric should be slightly larger than the bottom fabric to make up the natural curvature of the body? I really like the way the two colors blend well to make up the Oriole Bird colors. Looking forward to the next video.

A differential cut for a double-layer hammock? That is an interesting idea. I'll have to give it some thought.

Awesome video. Cant recall how many times I've watched this. I do have a question about your ridgeline calculation (n). It says n=(a+c)/2, but I keep getting 1.716 for (c) for a 132" hammock, and when you compute that into the equation for (n), I only get a 54" ridgeline, which doesnt seem right. I would assume something near the 83% computation (132 x .83) = 110".

Looks very cool so far. What size and type needle are you using? And do ever find that a walking foot works well for nylon?
@jellyfish450

I'm using a size 11 universal needle. I think a walking foot would be great for the long seams here.

Thanks for the reply. Are you going to put together a pattern for this do you think? Or are you using an existing one you could link to? And have you ever thought of doing a weekend sew-a-long class?

I love the Golden Ratio Idea for a Hammock and its parts. On the initial page for all the math calculations, there were some algebraic terms not defined on the paper (a, b, c, q, t and u). Do you know what those are? I was interested in puting this into use for an excel calculator and posting in hammock forums for a cool read with your permission. *added 6/1/18* To further add to the question, d, g, q and u seem to be a true/false function? not sure how you figure that for an actual number

Corey Miller those parameters are on the image (parts of the star and spiral). I have an excel spreadsheet for this. Do you think there is value in putting that online?
@millerca1986
@millerca1986 6 жыл бұрын
I think so. Some of the math checks out rather well and most folks tend to just accept the 60" width based on whats always has been available. The wider hammock in direct correlation with your height and the angle you lay, mixed with the angle the end caps tend to orient the hammock would make for an excellent lay. I started developing an excel spreadsheet, but I cannot get some of the math to check out. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Is there a reason you used two color fabrics? Is it to get the correct color scheme that your brother wanted? Would this technique work with a single layer hammock? Thanks for great videos they are the best outdoor sewing videos on KZfaq!
