It's insane that they don't film it this way. You can't see "everything", but it's way more exciting. Would be cool if they at least started adding this POV in more frequently, even if only for a % of points in a match.

Djoker has gotten to the point where he is so efficient with his game that there doesn't seem to be a ton of wasted energy. I swear he has at least a few more majors left in him. He will put up records that may never be broken. I've always been a Fed fan, but I damn sure respect what Djokovic has done throughout his career.

That’s exactly it. Maximum efficiency. It translates into beauty. Federer had it for his game as well. Scarier with Djokovic’s game because he is near impenetrable and his wings don’t usually break down.

Use this view for tournaments (would be easy enough to back the camera up a tad to capture more of the near court) and I guarantee viewership goes through the roof. Please do away with the antiquated camera angle that we currently use for professional matches now.

I see three main points where they differ: First, we get to really see the difference in experience here. Djokovic is methodical, his game is almost flawless and he aims for the most efficient and highest % of winning the point. Alcaraz is the opposite, agressive, unpredictable, but also highly risky. When he's in trouble, he goes for the hardest hit to try and tip the scales. The problem is that is the long term, you're doomed to miss more than you should if you go for these plays. When Djokovic is in trouble, he defends, when Alcaraz is in trouble, he doubles down. Secondly, the difference in serve is quite impressive. I'm not sure if it was just a bad day, but there was a neat difference between them both. Third, and this is probably a consequence of the second, but worth mentioning nevertheless: the return on the serve from Djokovic is perfect. I mean, if you watch just his returns, the ball is almost always going to the same spot: deep in the middle under Alcaraz feet. This is perfect because after you serve, usually you're jumping into the court and you're landing in the middle. Once he lands, the ball is alerady on his feet and he doesn't have time to hit an agressive shot. You'll see that its absolutely not the same return from Alcaraz, giving room to Djokovic to hit some nice and agressive hits. Love the framing though, pro matches should be streamed more like this.

Alcaraz’s serve is insanely hard hitting for his size. Like what the hell. In terms of strategy differences, I do think Alcaraz is more erratic but frankly if he wasn’t at this young age he’d be wasting his potential being too cautious.

If you watch the video, you'll see that Djokovic is not only returning up the middle. In fact, it seems like less than half of this returns are up the middle; and even less are deep up the middle. He varies his return and many of his returns went to Alcaraz's backhand.

Great practice match for both. If Carlos learns from Mr. Djokovic's game it could help improve more so than he has already. Especially the serve. Djokovic has such an underrated serve.

Novak is clearly the greatest tennis winner of all time given his trophies. I don’t think we want every player to play “the right way”. The sport is already losing attention to other racquet sports, we *need* the the players who make the game fun. When the game becomes monotonous and players stop injecting their own personality into their style of tennis, that’s when the game has died. I want tennis to remain alive as long as possible!

Having the talent to play the sport the right way always is the hardest thing, thats why Novak is the greatest tennis player of all time. Amazing, and this is ‘practice’ - this view gives just a glimpse as to the power, speed and intensity of play it takes to be in the top ranking. When I was a kid playing in the 70’s, Rosco Tanner was the only one to serve over 100, like maybe 106. Today is @ such a different level.

Over 100, maybe 106??? Dude, Roscoe Tanner could serve over 150 mph with a fuckin wooden raquet, what are you talking about? He held the world record for serve speed until 2004 when Roddick broke it. He could serve as fast as those two here any day of the week.

@@markmauk8231 No way. I watched him play, as well as seeing Connors, Laver, Borg, etc…and he never clocked anything close to that. He was the only guy hitting over 100 back in the 70’s. Maybe some remote obscure moment but nothing like the kids today w/any consistency. Beyond that, his ground game sucked. Serve was all he had.

@@johnnywlittle Yeah, serve was pretty much all he had. And it was fuckin amazing. Tanner was able to hit up to 135 mph serves in his college years already, thats well documented. He also served 135 as a senior in the 90s while Goran and Pete were active pros and didnt reach that speed. He averaged 115 on a regular basis.

It means that by keeping your enemies/competitors (who are a threat to you) close to you, you are able to keep tabs on them, to get insight on their strengths, weaknesses, and perhaps plans, thereby possibly giving you an advantage in future conflicts (or competitions) with them.

Then again, I thought Nadal would be done by 30 and I was sort of right sort of wrong. He stayed for longer but he was plagued by a ton of injuries... I wouldn't be surprised if Carlos had the same issues, his game is super taxing

He's 20, so he has time to improve every aspect still. Just a year ago, his serve was a lot worse. If we look back at Novak, Rafa and Roger when they were 20, their base game was obviously there but they've improved a lot and all became more efficient over the years.

The amount of effort that goes into the shot is an illusion. There is not a lot of internal conflict throughout the strokes, so the basically just rotate the body without tension, the arm projecting to the ball.

@@hybrid11theory75 As someone who is 23 years old and has played for the last 17+ consecutive years i can say that what they're doing isn't very difficult for someone that is capable of doing it.What they have done that is very difficult is get to the point that playing like this is pretty easy.Now i'm not anywhere as good as them obviously but i can play with this kind of intensity for like 2-5 minutes.The difference between me and them is that they can play like that for a lot more than 5 minutes and this is the difficult part.

It is amazing to see the difference in balance and efficiency, Djokovic is much more composed and energy-saving, while hitting as hard and often with better placement and tactics. Alcaraz still has a lot to learn. How he pulled off that Wimbledon win is still puzzling to me.

He also defeated Djokovic on clay in 2022 and lost by a mere tiebreaker at Cincinnati. His aggressive playstyle works, even if he's still learning patience in rallies. You don't lose by a 7-4 TB margin against Djokovic unless you are right there at the same level, and Alcaraz is.

Djoko uses this a lot! It's incredible. Sometimes he has enough time to hit moving forward, but postpones hitting just so that the opponent is already closer to the middle for coming back. I have seen a really cool video compilation of times he did that somewhere in yt

You can see how much nible is Nole on his serve, that whip really doing the work. Carclos is much more stiff and produces a lot of muscle tension. Nole a lot more efficient from the energy consumption stand point and using the body mechanics to produce force.

I personally feel, and it is simply a hunch, that Djokovic befriending his young fellow players and constantly practicing with them somewhat unintentionally and subconsciously eases the competitive spirit from other players in match up with Djokovic. He is too supreme of a player himself to have these friendships effect him negatively when he plays group of these young players. But more than often, these young players in process of having too much respect and admiration for Djokovic don't seemed to bring the fire power to these matches and therefore have not done well for themselves especially on the bigger stages of the competition. Alcaraz should not practice with Djokovic for the same reasons and also because Djokovic is too brilliant of a player to get used to yhe pace, feel and patterns of Alcaraz's play.

100% agree, Fed and Rafa were not practicing with Djokovic on a regular basis. Heck Djokovic wouldn't even play down a level in exhibitions in case it gave them confidence when the pressure was on in a real match. Underestimate Djokovic at your own peril because he has turned around every H2H record out of obsession and will use any means to do so

That sounds nice in theory. I don’t think I agree. The primary goal of these players is to play the greatest tennis that is possible for them, they put unbelievable hours of hard training and dedication. They’re not going to “ease their competitive spirit” just because they form friendships. Obviously some players have friendships with their opponents after the game; but, mid-game, the greatest respect to their opponent is to play their greatest tennis. I see it as the friendship driving them to player better and better tennis to defeat their rivals. - My two cents.

I keep wanting to see and feel how these players hit the ball in real life. I can't afford tickets to the U.S. Open and Wimbledon and even if I could afford tickets, spectators sit too far away from the action to see the fine details of how these greats hit the ball.
