run it through a bass amp, as a bass station should, and you can rattle the earth, the house, and the neighbor's house. deep heavy, grinding, or smooth bass sounds can be achieved easily. I use many different sounds in my band and it comes through well through mains at clubs too. very nice buy, as long as you know how to use a synth. but it's kind of fun to get stuck somewhere between sounds and have to dig yourself out of oscillations you didnt intend. happy bassing!

I bought the original Bass Station when it came out in 1993. I'm trying to remember what I did with it. I think I gave it to my brother around 2000, who also played keyboards. I wonder if he still has it. It complemented my Korg X3, which I remember selling.

Ralph Goldheim, your name is already explaining that you are a legend! Question: can you find updates for the novation on internet like new packs of sounds and if so, can these be added to the synth? Thanks!

Yes, novation has plenty of free patches they provide to users, and you can find many patches for free online from other people that have the synth too

I was 1 of the first musicians that bought and used the bass station rack 1. People laughed at me as it looked a toy. I used it working at the studio working with Dr Dre's record label back in the 90's

This is a intro demo only obviously. Check with the SW staff about more in depth info because several of the guys actually own a BSII themselves. Ask for Christopher as he is a real synth geek and knows it in depth. Enjoy!

It sounds just as steppy as my old one. This I feel is their 'fly in the ointment'. Now that aside, with careful programming, they do make some sweet sounds, and the keyboard feels nice.

Oh I'm not saying that the instrument is bad because of it, I was just a bit shocked. Thought they'd be using a higher resolution on their parameters, does you know if it receives 14-bit midi CC?

Well I could understand them having lower res back in the earlier 90s, when my old Bass station was made, but if it's the same now, that would be unacceptable considering processing power now, and them knowing that bass sweeps are popular. I'm sure it can be controlled via midi, but not sure how smooth the res will be.

nothing against sweetwater,they are the only company i purchase new synths/gear from,this being one of them but if you really want a proper demo check on sonic labs demo from Nick Bookman who happens to be one of the devs. dont get me wrong this is still a decent demo, just no where near nicks. this synth is pretty damn nice, if it had cv it would be one of the greatest things to come out in years(based on its price)

Hello, i'm trying to do some patch assigments to my BSII from my hardware sequencer. Does the BSII accept transmission of CC/PG/Program Change messages? If so, how can we find out the CC values for the different BSII patches, so that we can enter them into the sequencer (for assignment etc.)? Thanks.

Hi, thanks for your interest! Yes, the Bass Station II can be used as a MIDI controller with Pro Tools or any other DAW that supports MIDI. The keys, as well as almost all the other controls, will send MIDI data over USB to your computer. Feel free to reach out to me directly if you have any further questions! What size are the keys?
@sweetwater
@sweetwater 2 жыл бұрын
Hey there! That Bass Station II is going to come with full-size keys on it, which are generally 427.5mm in width. This size is common amongst most full-size 88-key keyboards, so it's going to give you plenty of room on each key, even with it being a 25-key synthesizer. Thanks for your interest! !

To my ears this synth is pretty underwhelming. Some of the patches towards the end sounded ok, but most sounded pretty generic in this vid. The minibrute sounds a lot better.

Instead of exploring the range of sound design possibilities or showing any character the synth might have, they stuck to making a mayonnaise sandwich on wonder bread. And serious who are they wanting to sell these to? Guys in their 60s-70s trying to make yacht rock? Hey dum-dum I know what a filter is, can you make it sound interesting though?

THIS is a synth I was waiting for! Minibrute sounds interesting but not very attractive to my ears, Sub Phatty is overpriced, MS-20 mini is too weird and Mopho has less sound creation possibilities. BS2 wins. BS2 & Volca Beats and I don't need Roland anymore :)

digitally control oscillator, numerical preset storage, digital effect, numeric envelop, numeric arpegiator, numeric USB port, and they say "100% pure analog??" 😶
@relokatzia
@relokatzia 7 жыл бұрын
"numerical preset storage" - uuh, do you want like a rotary dial for presets? or punch cards? "numeric USB port" - because there are great analog alternatives for this, right? "digitally control oscillator" - because it sure is fun to wait for synths to heat up or tune them every time you play? Sound on Sound review is on point here: "Like the original, its oscillators are DCOs rather than VCOs and anyone who takes this information as justification to flounce away like a wounded teenager could be missing out."

sorry, but that is rubbish, analogue chips with integrated circuits have been around since the late 70ies/ early 80ies. That was the time when polysynths became portable without the danger of getting hernia or a spinal disc herniation. Polysynths with discrete components can reach a weight in excess of 190 pounds, like the notorious yamaha CS 80.

The Bass Station II has a good sound, but every patch kind of sounds the same. Nothing special about the controls or the design of the synth: it's the same bog-standard stuff you get from any generic keyboard. It's like an MS-20, but with patch saving, an extremely basic arpeggiator, and of course it doesn't have the modular cable feature of the MS-20 which sets that synth apart from others. Good demo from Sweetwater though: nice and too the point without the useless chitchat about nothing you get from other demo videos "Well today I got my xyz, and I unwrapped it, and I put the boxes in the trash but first I had to rip them up so they fit in the trash can" etc. etc. for 5 minutes before you get any information.
