Nice! Out of all of the smaller octave range synths on the market at the moment, I think I'd go for the Bass Station 2 over any other of its competition.

I agree. You really can't beat those old school Moogs when it comes to the fullness of those lower frequencies 🤓

@@zofiasojka3430 Yes, probably the best choice you could make as everything is laid out for you on the front panel. I started on one in 2015 and have no regrets and it's still amazing today!

Woah 6 years later and I’m in the exact same dilemma.. In your opinion, the synths you mentioned aren’t outdated technology by now, right? I mean they are still in production and Bass Station II has had many firmware updates since then.

Did you find a good vst instead of buying one?

@@swishyfish325 There's always the NOVATION V-station or Bass Station plug-ins. Though the BSII is rather different than any of those.

Yep, you can use it as a sequencer to trigger other Synths via MIDI, tried it with an MS 20 mini -no problems there.

It's a tough call. They're both great synths, but there's one major difference. The Bass Station II has patch storage while the Mini/Microbrute is more old-school analog. If you're not a huge analog synthesis nut, then the BS2 may be a better starting point because there are sounds already on it and you can save sounds you make to recall later. Another difference is that the BS2 has two oscillators which gives it a bit more range in it's uses. With that said, the Brute is a really unique synth because of a few features like the Brute control and the Metallizer oscillator. Still, if you're new to analog synthesis, the BS2 is probably the better starting point.

They're both equally good for leads and basses, by the way. Both are capable of all kinds of sounds.

I can't speak for minibrute, but I had the microbrute and found it very limited in terms of midi implementation. I wish I would have gone with the BS2 now that I have seen this demo and read more reviews, oh well, live and learn.

german cheong I would also add the CV in and outs the Microbrute has which the BS2 does not. The CV in and outs are great if you plan to integrate with any other modular or CV capable gear you might have.

+B1SCOOP well not reeaaally, the hoover sound uses a waveform unique to the Alpha Juno, which is like a sawtooth pulse wave. It'll actually be cheaper to get a used Alpha Juno than a Bass Station. I see them regularly around $300 or so. Got mine for $220 a year ago. It's a pain in the ass to program, so that's one disadvantage. But if you just want an approximation, the BSII might be fine.

If you hold down multiple keys it will just play the note of the last one you pushed, but the built in arpeggiator with arpeggiate a chord for example if you hold the keys of the chord down. There is also a legato function where if you let go of one key and then push another it will jump instantly to the new note, but if you push the second key before releasing the first it will slide to the second.

Yes but a bass amp is probably better cause you don't want to damage the speaker. But at low volumes it should be fine.

This post is older, so I'll assume that you've already bought something. But, for clarity I'll add an answer just incase it helps somebody else with a similar question: The bass station 2 and MinNova are both great units. But, they're very different beasts. The Bass Station 2 being a full analog Mono Synth plays only One NOTE at a time. Though it is extremely flexible in other ways and tonally, it is incredibly gratifying, you will not be able to play chord voicings. The MiniNova on the other hand, is a digital synth that models very nicely similar analog synth waveforms, and will allow you to make fat pad patches and play huge chords with them...It can be set up like a monophonic too and features a really great ARP section...I'd get both...but if you are limited to only one, you'll get a lot of mileage out of The MiniNova or better yet the UnltraNova (larger key bed and reg size keys)...Novation's offerings are very beautifully put together machines, so whichever way you decide to go, you'll likely not be dissapointed. The sounds are coming from the Novation Bass Station II which is an analog synthesizer, not software.

Are you asking if you can use it within FL studio? The answer is yes. If you're asking if you can load your own sounds from FL studio into it as presets, I think the answer is yes.

The BS2 has key tracking but the user can't shut it down. Its constantly on.The annoying result is often on higher notes that sound brighter and sharper compared to the lower tones on the keyboard when the filter is a bit more closed. Only a simple Os or Firmware udate from Novation is needed to shut the keytracking off for those BS2 users who wish to do that. But no sign of Novation to do so for their customers - despite many requests by users and pro reviewers since 2013. . .

The recent updates have many options available. Duophonic, filter tracking, and looping envelopes among many others....

rendering audio to one stereo master, then ( say in an electronic - acoustic setup, no; but for all instruments summing to a single master, yes ) though, can give the Basstation II the ability to GATE or CUT the entire mix w/ the filter resonance + what LFO rate is set to it - something not readily apparent at first.

Definitely not a toy, maybe except plastic casing (knobs and keys are fine). Check out soundcloud demos. I find it as good substitute for SH-101, with second LFO, overdrive and distortion, exteranal in and ring mod.
