Tip from a female. Use a sanding block. If you just use your hands, you are going to get dimples and rises. Start with a higher grit and lower it to about 240-360 depending on the finish you want and when it's close to level sand past the area to at least twice the surface area so that any imperfections blend. Clean the area well and make sure it is dry before applying paint - any area you think will be touched by paint so you don't pick up dust which can cause clumping. Do a few coats of paint so you get the 'not new board' effect and it blends better with the final coat.

Pro Tip: before you begin your repair gently peel away a decent sized piece of the material with paint on it so you can take it to Home Depot or wherever and have them color match the paint. You're already patching it and it's no harder to patch it with a little bit more of the material gone. If you are not patching something up but do need to color match the paint, same thing, but just cut a little piece out of a corner somewhere patch it and then paint that when you get your color match paint for whatever it is you're trying to do touch-up painting with.

This is a great demonstration of drywall mud. Just a few things. 1) if you see cardboard texture stuff make sure to apply GARDZ before the mud so that the mud can form a chemical seal to the fiber. Alternatively, just gash it past that cardboard texture stuff carefully and apply it to the drywall directly. 2) Make sure to wear a dust mask and vacuum it up, that stuff is pure silica dust. 3) Before you paint it you need to apply primer otherwise the mud will show through the paint and the paint will come off when the moisture changes. Otherwise very good stuff, subbed.

@@Justbored1214i use 120 but 220 is probably better to keep you from sanding too far if your new at it, if you can break/peel off a 2 inch piece of that drywall that IS the correct color you can bring it in to any paint store and have it matched, just make sure you get it from a spot that the paint looks fresh still and not exposed to marks, moisture or frequent contact. Usually behind a couch or something because it will need to be patched as well I prefer dunn-edwards, sherwin williams, and home depot

Hack for sanding, take a stack of post-it papers, line up a few with the glue all lined up to make it the length you need, fold up the bottom and stick this strip under where you are sanding. It will catch a majority or the dust to make cleaning after easier😊

They make drywall sand paper too that looks more like screen material. Saves from a lot of binding and friction sticking regular sandpaper tends to do on those large flat surfaces

It’s a “blade” and “spackle”. Different grit sandpaper can make the texture smoother or rougher. A roll on brush will get you that desired texture. Don’t use a bristle brush.
@sakygen8 ай бұрын
Use spatula first to scrape imperfections making it smoother when you place the mud. Then before you place the mud check the texture of the wall first and match it so that when you paint it next it would look like the hole was never there to begin with. Best to do all the prep on that wall before painting it.
