One thing most people didn't realize here is that Rachel knew who's the Batman. She also knew she had no chance surviving the fall from the building if Joker threw her. She still kept the secret and let Joker throw her. This gives her character a depth. After realizing this when I think that she died later in the story, it breaks my heart even more.

I love the high quality of the dialogues in this film. I love how Rachel is not only a love interest who is represented weak or cowardly but intelligent and very courageous, compared to all the other people in the hall, shitting in their pants because there's the Joker. She did not hesitate to step forward despite all the fear he gives. I also love how the Joker is very quick-witted instead of being a complete mad man. Yes he's out of his mind actually, but he still used to be a normal person before he became Joker, so it's so reasonable that his actions are cleverly done. He knows how to get away from things, like grabbing Rachel while his men are distracting Batman and then faking he's going to shoot her with the gun but actually shooting towards the glass to break it and throwing her outside, so Batman can chase after her while Joker runs away. It would not be this awesome of a movie if Joker was not designed as a clever man. I'm not saying he is thinking before he does things, he's very random, but I think he used to be a very smart man in his past, who was exposed to wrong circumstances that got him mad, and right know he's just doing what he wants while his mind is empty but well working.

Heath is a genius. No other actor comes close to this performance, imo.

People loves a charismatic person. Heath Ledger's Joker was the living embodiment of charisma.

If you rewatch the film consider that Joker knew Bruce Wayne was Batman the entire time then it actually kind of works and makes more sense. He wouldn't benefit by letting the mob know this.

The dynamic between these two once in a generation actors is sooo perfect!! I know some people might have trouble taking Bale 100% seriously cause of the voice thing, but I honestly think he's one of few actors on the planet who could fully match the intensity and immersion Ledger brought to the table and not get intimidated or thrown off by it. I could've watched at least 3 more movies with these guys going at it, but I know that would make this one slightly less magical than it is. We and Nolan were truly lucky to get this combination of lead actors for this, forever grateful

The Dark Knight is one of those movies that I never get tired of watching Ayeee, thanks for the likes guys and gals, glad we all can agree TDK is timeless

You hear the emotions in his voice each time he tells a different story about his scares. Tells you he's either completely lost reality or is on a different level of manipulation.

The fact that he was able to pull off both Joker and broke back mountain makes him one of the greatest actors ever IMO. Two entirely different personalities played to perfection. Both have a strong masculine presence, but that's about all you can say is the same. The level of empathy portrayed in Ennis Del Mar compared to Joker is an unbelievable feat. This role killed him. He inhabited it too deeply and it was not who he was

The fact that we have no idea about his origin in Nolan universe makes this villain even more scary and insane, he's just pure madness and anarchy, he just want the chaos and be the opposite of Batman.

Lots of focus on Ledger here for obvious reasons but Maggie Gyllenhaal's performance here is very good - the mixture of fear, panic, holding it together, and contempt

Fun fact: At 2:24, Maggie Gyllenhaal was actually looking towards the staff wondering if they were going to call cut because she was already extremely uncomfortable at that point. While Nolan and his staff could clearly see that she was uncomfortable, they continued rolling because they were capturing a genuinely afraid Maggie Gyllenhaal. She was actually quite upset once they finally did call for cut and needed to take a few minutes to detox.

Ledger is obviously perfect but Maggie deserves some credit too. She only has two words, but she nails her facial and physical acting. You can tell Rachel is trying come off as brave and unphased, but she's actually terrified.

I have seen this movie a billion times. Each and every time the performance of Heath Ledger gives me chills.

"You remind me of my father. I hated my father." What's interesting is that this line might be the only true fragment of his actual back story that we get in the entire movie (not the contradicting scar stories).. You can tell by his line delivery that there is some real animosity there.. It's not just for theatrics.

At 2:20 when he says "I just want her to know that I don't care about the scars", it's incredible how Heath Ledger completely switches emotions between the first half and the second half of the sentence. It's a blink or you'll miss it moment, but when he says "I just want her to know...", you hear his voice almost trembling with sadness and sorrow, as if he truly was desperate to convince the made-up wife about still caring for her despite her scars. And as he says "...that I don't care about the scars", he is suddenly full of anger and rage. How do you even understand that you can switch emotions mid-sentence like this? Whether it's conscious or subconscious, it's next level acting. Just an incredible performance.

Obviously ledger stole the scene and whole movie but we can’t overlook that Christian bale was a great Batman
