The DEWALT DCG409 & DCG416 Angle grinders have been out for about 2 years. DEWALT has added the DCG409VSB & DCG416VSB Variable speed models to the new tool lineup recently and they are everything you would expect from a well-balanced 20-volt angle grinder.
These new angle grinders are packed with technology that helps them detect safety hazards and keep the user safe. The best part of the safety is that it does not falsely detect these conditions in normal use. While the electric brake could react slightly faster, it is still working pretty well for the designed use.
The variable speed dial allows the user to choose between 3,000 and 9,000 rpm. I do not have to tell you that this is awesome when working on more delicate projects.
FlexVolt Advantage does not mean this tool has 60-Volt FlexVolt Power. The PowerStack (20-Volt)battery is not more powerful than the FlexVolt (60-Volt) batteries at this time. This just describes that the tool is electronically designed to get the most power out of each battery that is used on the tool. If the tool can draw more amps from the battery, it will. There is a lot of confusion surrounding that wording.

Bought the dcg 416 really light and comfortable. But I use the 1.7 power stack since I don't have any bigger batteries right now. And it works just fine.

I've been using the DC409VS slide switch version for a month. Absolutely no issues thus far. It is certainly the most versatile angle grinder that I've used, and is a perfect companion to the DCG426 straight grinder.

Hi,I have this...do you find you need the flexvolt battery to get higher speeds from speed 4-6 on the dial? On 18v mine only increases in speed up to speed 4.

That's pretty awesome. I really wish they would team up with bosch and pay for their xlock blade change tech. I know it's easy to change but man that would really be something special.

First one showed missing parts. Second one was complete. It's a working bench grinder kzfaq.infoUgkxxC8HPnl24fu0XhMU_nbmWNEUoK1RMHXk . One thing I like alot is that it's surprisingly quiet. I don't feel like I'm sacrificing any rpms or power for the quietness either. All in all it's a very nice machine. No vibration whatsoever.

Good job clearing that up bout the flexvolt grinder power comparison. The flexvolt grinder is a badass grinder. Milwaukee doesnt even come close with their 6" model even tho its newer. Its jus a tool that truly works better with a higher voltage. I believe its dewalts best tool in their whole lineup. Of course they come out with variable speed after i got a flex grinder jus for that even tho im hugely invested in dewalt

Wish they put the variable speed on the flat-head grinder. They tend to not put many of the added features on the flat-head because flat-head IS the feature, but I still prefer it due to the reach you get.

I totally agree! Has me thinking... I wonder if you could put the flathead grinder head on a variable speed handle to make a variable speed flathead? Just looking at pictures of the two it looks like it would work. From an engineering standpoint it would only make sense that they would share a common handle design. Would make for one hell of an expensive grinder, but it would be awesome. I suppose in the end you would be left with a non-variable speed handle and regular head you could put together to make a basic DCF416B tool (albeit with the wrong part number / serial number tag on it lol).

Could you answer me a question please? On some Euro vids ive seen on this,when running on 20v battery,the speed doesnt increase past speed 4 on the dial...only when flexvolt battery is put on does it reach higher speed on dial 4-6.Is there an issue here with grinder not reaching 9000 rpm when on 20v? Or am i seeing/hearing it wrong? Thanks

well isnt that the point with the battery itself? just buy the 60v grinder with the flex volt batteries. higher the ah the better.

@@gospelninja2.016 none of them are variable speed and I need one to do 3k or less RPM - I may end up using a drill of some sort but the ergonomics will be all wrong. Spinning a 300 dollar diamond coated wire wheel too fast and destroying it is a false economy and/or downright stupid.

Do they include the type 1 guard like Milwaukee includes guard with the 416 for cutting and the 27 type? If not why don't they include it do you not need it?

Why cant we get one grinder to rule them all? No comprimises. Falt head, fast braking, variable speed, rotating head, toolless disc and guard change, led light, 5 light battery level indicator, hell even different power switch options on it, slide switch, trigger AND paddle. Just have attachable covers to cover up the slide switch and trigger and make the paddle detachable somehow. It really would simplify the shopping process for us who just want the very best and has the cash to throw at it.

Do you prefer this dewalt grinder over milwaukee 2888-20. Trying to decide. I have 3 flexvolt 6ah batteries and 3 milwaukee 5ah batteries. I don't have any milwaukee 6ah. And what is difference lengthwise between two with batteries on. Thanks

IT goes full 9000 RPM on 18/20 v or do you need frexvolt batery for full speed ?
