Furniture shook in the houses and objects fell from shelves.
Some residents fled their homes and offices.
Minor damage to houses was reported in Puan and Iksan.
There were no reports of injuries or serious damage.
Authorities said the earthquake did not affect the safety of the country's nuclear power plants.
