A suggestion concerning the Keep... not only shoud it be higher, it should also be bigger in circumfence. As the Keep was not only the last defence for the Lord of the castle, his family and servants, it was also the safe haven for the peasants from the surrounding farms, that were under the Lord's protection! There had to be chambers (with sleeping arrangements) to house everyone (the Lord and his family, the servants, the peasants, the soldiers, etc.), seprated dining areas, kitchens and pantries, an Armory, corridors to connect everything, a general assembly area and more of the like. As an indicator for the size you'd be looking for... Take the current keep, raise it by 30 to 50% and that at least times 4 (square floorplan) or perhaps even 6! (witha rectangular floorplan)! This whole project looks amazing I'd love to see what's next! Happy building! 👍
@acubley20 күн бұрын
Wasn't the Keep usually the original building? A fort or such originally that as the area grew more prosperous the Lord would build up.

@@acubleyIt depends, I suppose, on the intent of the builders. Sometimes a castle was built around a pre-existing manor, other times a manor/keep was built with the intent of building a castle around it, and finally, rather commonly, the former was initially the case but over time the manor was torn down and replaced with a larger, properly defensible keep.

Another idea for the minifigs in the Castle could be archeologists or historians doing some sort of field research or surveying of the castle's remains, and/or a field trip of younger kids. Love the update as always. Always super exciting and fun to watch. Honestly usually one of the best parts of my week (and my sibling's week too for that matter)! Three suggestions: 1. I think to be more realistic you should expand the film crew a little bit. Add tents, maybe a food area, and most certainly a director's chair for some ideas. 2. Make the Castle Keep larger, and taller. Maybe put it back further and have the castle "disappear" off the build. It'd allow for a more realistically sized Keep. 3. Add farmers harvesting the wheat. It'd be much more clear what that area is, plus, it would be a nice addition since it'd be so close to the viewer.
@mr.goines168417 күн бұрын
And the Director, lets assume its Brickley Scott (guess the one in red with the tie is the director), should face the scene not the crew.
@TheMeGuy120 күн бұрын
Just some thoughts: -The towers of the castle should have doors (or empty archways) where they meet the walls. -The wheat field looks cool but also a bit too uniform, maybe move the scarecrow into the middle of it, and make a few small "harvested wheat" patches to simulate some dead stalks and to break it up. Maybe for the big harvested section, you could make the edge less straight/blocky and put some farmers in there with baskets and scythes actively harvesting it.
@user-mq4eb2xz1o20 күн бұрын
You could make the castle keep wider as well as taller to it more presence, as well as having walls coming off it to the main walls to create a seperate inner section of rhe castle for a last stand. Also, including an attacking camp witj seige equipment made from cutting down the nearby trees and having some skirmishing or rienforcements from outside the castle, could also look really good.
@andersmoore20 күн бұрын
A guided tour group at the castle would be really nice too. Especially if some of the kids snuck away and were spying on the film set.
@redtomato490320 күн бұрын
I think that having the film set inside of the castle is better, as it kinda hides them and makes it a surprise to see. It would be a nice twist for people seeing it for the first time, as from the outside you can only see the knights

Love these update videos, looking amazing! A suggestion for the wheat field: Place them on large tiles so that you can swap a fully grown field for a harvested field or a ploughed field more easily. That way, if you want to change the season for your scene, you don't spend hours removing one and putting another in its place. It'd also allow you to play with the underground color a bit, like turning it brown for the ploughed field.

what you could do to add height to the castle keep is a wooden structure on top, as was fairly common to have. with a sloped roof to protect any archers on top from plunging fire as the arrows would have been fired upwards, and thus coming down again from above to reach up to them. it would also add some contrast for the build with the browns of wood to break up all the mostly gery of the stone

I LOVE the updates in this video, the film crew was such a genius move. I went to a hand-worked farm recently and in the middle of their corn field, there was a big oak tree and small clearing for picnics and stuff that you had to find your way through the corn field to get to. Not the most practical for efficient agriculture, but it could be a good way to break up the monotony of the wheat and add some nice detail close to the museum viewers. Also I think a hiking path from the town to the castle might be an easy way to tie the sections together a bit.

Regarding the castle keep I want to clarify something: A keep (common in western europe) is a defensive living structure often equipped with towers at its corners. A "bergfried" (common in central europe) is solely military and can not be used as a living space. Castles with a bergfried also have a "palas", intended as the main living space of a castle. They are not the same thing. Fun fact: The word "palas" is the origin of the English word "palace" and the German word "palast".

As someone who works in the film industry, I think it'd be really cool to add all the tents and trucks that go with making a film. Also that's not what film industry gimbals look like, but it might be even cooler to add a dolly and the track to go with it? I love the lights that you have there, but they'd need a generator! I'd put a crash pad under the knight who's falling -- He's gonna get hurt without something there!! Oh and some people need to be working that prop table! I feel like even student films normally have like 10 crew members for every actor. Let's get some wardrobe people and racks of clothes going! The guy with the microphone could be the director or the AD, but you totally need some producers/etc sitting in chairs and a couple of monitors. Maybe a script supervisor with a copy of the script. Oh and Craft Services (food) is literally a MUST crews will straight up revolt without food. Maybe some scenic artists, set dressers, etc getting some other part of the castle ready? Usually films do a lot of work on a location to make it fit the story, they could be like hanging banners or something. If you really wanna go for it, lights and camera equipment are normally stored in some sort of box truck. Oh yknow what could be cool? You could use some lime green tiles and make it look like theyve put up greenscreen or blue screen somewhere! Oh and crew members on set usually wear a lot of black, sort of a culture thing, sort of a "don't show up in reflections" thing. Sorry I got excited!
