The concept of the band is a Global Pop Group with members representing different countries. They are structured somewhat like a football team. Members can come in and out according to what's needed or who's available. Members switch roles a lot, very much like a sports team does (notice their sporty-type outfits). This means sometimes they are playing/performing as the lead team defense (vocals), or other times as back row defense (dancers), or substitutes on the sit-out-bench. They often switch positions, so sometimes they're just dancing, other times they are out front and center singing. Depending on the song or show etc. Such roles are required with a band concept like this as each member holds a different passport which can cause hiccups as the band travels globally a lot. In the case of this show, Russian member Sofya was held back by customs at the last moment so Jayna from The Philippines was subbed in at the last moment. She is a member of Now United's 'sister band' The Future X. This is the first time a member from that band had to fulfil duties in this band due to the current circumstances. Each member, when they opt to leave the group, is usually replaced by a new member who takes the spot of representing the country of the member who just left. Or in most cases, members go on hiatus and rejoin for special occasions such as this tour. Once a member, always a member so to speak. In essence, Now United are a team. There are 19 official members. Some are currently active in the band, others are inactive or have left permanently. Even the ones who have left permanently will still pop up occasuonally (usually in their weekly KZfaq show "This Week with Now United" which is a bit like a reality tv series that follows the band on their day to day activities). Follow their KZfaq channel and enjoy the show if you would like to learn more about them because they are amazing...especially when you get to know all the band members. They become like your friends. They also release at least one new song almost every month, so there's always new content coming from them. Anyway, hope this is helpful info for you. To further explain the biz side of the band, they are all contract employees of XIX Entertainment (Simon Fuller's company). Most of the O.G 14 members were likely on a 5 year contract which recently expired. Many opted not to renew their contract, others opted for part time contract (hence past members that pop up occasionally). Its a bit like being a contract performer for a cruise liner, the work is sometimes seasonal for those members on part time contracts. When newer members are added to replace exiting members, they're likely now on a minimum 3 year full time contract to begin with. XIX Entertainment has multiple pop groups. Now United and The Future X are their two current main ones. This explains how occasionally members from the other band can sub in, because they all share the same management and are under contract to perform when needed by their corporation. Its a pretty smart business model actually because it gives the band members flexibility to go off and pursue solo projects then come back when they choose to. Now United in particular are huge in certain countries. Brazil and Portugal for example where they headline their own stadium shows. They're also very popular in the United Arab Emirates region. Places like Saudi Arabia, Dubai and Lebanon where they're very well known. But essentially their biggest fanbase is in Brazil though they have fans from all over the world. I myself am from Hong Kong. One of their songs "All Day", they didn't perform it in this show but that song was a big hit here in HK and is very, very well known in my country. I hear it all the time when I go out clubbing cos the djs here play it all the time.
