Peter my son who is a single foster dad was a sheriff up until a few years ago. He was in a head on collision that ended his law enforcement career. The Lord has led him to go back and get his teaching degree. His life goal is to make a deference in the lives of our youth.

Brenda GOD BLESS your son. Male teachers are definitely needed because so may children lack a positive male role model. The fact his background includes law enforcement means he has insight into the demeaning domestic past so many children have. He should be a wonderful foster-Dad, & hopefully one day an adoptive-Dad.

I grew up in the foster care system, my foster dad was a police officer. I was one of 6 girls, and they had 2 little children of their own. I had an amazing teenage life growing up in my new home. For the first time I felt safe and wanted, and I was treated as a member of the family. Thank you for the laugh, the young man had no problem you being a cop and just wanted to pet the dog. I used to love when my foster dad was home and still in his uniform when my date picked me up. I never told anyone that I was in foster care, so when he picked me up and came to the door, the look on the young mans face to see my dad in his uniform was amazing, they always promised to have me home on tim and safe.

I hear so many stories of bad experience s with being in foster care. Reading yours just gave me the best feeling. I am seriously considering becoming a foster parent. I hope if I do, my foster child(Ren) will someday be able to share positive memories of being in my home.

Just what I needed see. I'm a retired psychologist. I can't count the kids in the system we wanted to take in! It was hard to see very troubled parents mishandling their children. We were very fortunate to adopt three... but we wanted them all! You warm my old heart!

I was one of 7 siblings separated and put into the foster care system years ago. I can relate somewhat to not having any say or advance warning of a change of homes. I recall around 5-6 years of age being put in a social worker's car with my few belongings in a brown paper grocery sack and told I would be going to a new home. The ride was very uncomfortably silent with me trying to hold back the tears. When I got to the new home I was terrified. I was already thinking I must have done something wrong in the old home since I was being removed. Once inside I was told by the new foster mom that all she expected from me was to behave, do my chores and go to school. I guess she thought this would comfort me. It just made me think that one wrong move and I was out of here. Our family was never fully re-united. I was in 4 homes and then I went back to live with my mother. You go out of your way to make your kids feel welcome and loved. I cannot begin to tell you how important that is. Also, every foster child should have their own bag or suitcase (not a paper sack) for their belongings. I felt so thrown away with my sack.

That hurts, it hurts my ♥ to hear how scared you were. My dream is to find a mansion that someone would donate or sell for $1, & renovate it into a children's home for sibling groups. Each of the house parents could have up to 5 children fr. 1 family or a set of 2 & 3, or 4 & 1. Planning for 1 respite couple, so the others don't burn out.

I was in a group home which had different houses called cottages. I was tossed back and forth. From one cottage to another. Because the ones in charge of that cottage left or they just wanted to move boys around. I was in the system for about 5 years. I was tossed from one cottage to another about 13 times. Some times you got told an hour or two before you went to the new cottage for that group home. But there were even times I was picked up at school and taken to the new cottage and not even told why. It is nice how you and the group called forever family are trying to find homes for older kids that normally would age out and be alone. Every child and teen needs a forever family. They need to know they are loved and cared about. Thank you for what you do. Anthony and Kai are very loved and you can tell they both know that and they both care for you. Keep bringing smiles to others and to all foster kids.

I was in foster care and I personally hated the not knowing. Not knowing whether you going to a better or worse place. Like it was mentioned in the video sometimes I was told days in advance but most of the time it was earlier that day or when they came to remove us. Not knowing if the foster parents were good or not. Also I didn’t like that most of time when we moved all of our stuff is packed in trash bags. Some Forster homes worst then being at home with your family . Also I didn’t like not knowing what type of other foster kids you going to be exposed to. Sometimes some of the other foster kids had serious problems and probably should have been placed by themselves or somewhere they would have a lot supervision and the proper help. I had a Forster parent who mostly had kids with a lot of problems because she got paid more for them. But she couldn’t properly help those kids. And sometimes I didn’t feel safe with the other Forster kids. And just not knowing what you were going to be exposed to whether it’s someone who experienced sexual abuse or someone who is suicidal. And those kids acting out because they’re crying out for help but not getting any. So you experience their episodes and they sometimes take their hurt out on other kids in that home. So now you have more traumatised kids. And not knowing how to process all that at a young age.

It's really heartbreaking to know that a child can be in more danger in foster care than the situation living with their families that they were displaced from. I don't know why Any person or persons would go through all the time and paperwork it takes to become a foster parent(s) and end up mistreating and abusing them that's just crazy. You have explained the foster care system so well as to how it really is and how you really feel about being bounced around to stranger's homes. I'm sure it must be scary and confusing not knowing where or to who's home your going to, and if your going to be safe or not. I pray everyday for the children in foster care and the good parents that takes care of them. It's heartbreaking for these good parents too that their children have leave them after the child (ren) have created a bond with them. Its just crazy and I pray that this system gets fixed and the right things are done for the children's sake. God Bless you may friend! ❤

Anthony is the child that needed Peter and the child that Peter needed - not wants - just need (if you get the distinction). Kai is a child that NEEDs Peter yet I don't think he (Kai) wants this yet for any adult. I am not religious yet I believe in bonding (being adopted I know how special it is to to bond with unconditional love from the heart not genetics). Peter - you rock.

I just found your channel and work with many kids (to keep families together) and also through foster respite care etc. My stepdad was born in the great-depression and abandoned at birth. He went through 22 foster homes and was never adopted. He aged out, went to fight in Korea (earned 2 Purple Hearts, Bronze Star etc.) My mum was his 3rd wife after she was widowed. They were soulmates. We loved him like he was always ours! It took him until his last Christmas to realize that. He had carried that void all those years. All that to say, Peter, what you do is sacred work!

It’s so sad to pull these kids away from homes they’ve lived in for years that is so cruel and heartless. It hurts my heart so much for them it’s so not fair and you can’t blame them for not trusting people when these people have made them feel like their feelings don’t matter. Children are so innocent ☹️

Your boys aren't even my own Peter, but I feel like so protective of them" I think it's because I'm a mum & my first instinct is to protect" no matter what the situation" 🙏 listening to them talk about there experience's with foster care was so brave of them & really broke my heart 💔 it takes strength boys to be able to tell your story" & Peter, .... You are an amazing person" they will never forget this conversation with you" because you let them tell their story & you listened" not many foster kids get asked, "what happened" how did you feel" or how do you feel" I'm just so happy these boys got "YOU" as there foster parent/ father figure in there lives" I'm so grateful that God put you here for these children" that he had a plan for you" & you do what you do" 🙏 thankyou for sharing this with all of us. Growing up orphans and so poor has really taught us how to survive the hardest times and how to look at the bright side of everything. We grew up in a home of 3, me , my younger sister and grandma. But our dream is to have a house full of children who need a home, whom we can call brothers and sisters. I wouldn't call it foster home but an open home for everyone. Now currently we have a 9year and 17 year old girls. We don't have much but we share what we have equally. We need them and they need us .BTW am 28 and my sister is 22 and grandma is 89. Thank you Peter for the unconditional love you give to the community.

It's just sad all the way around the way kids are treated in the foster care system. I know, had foster kids for family members. The one thing we did learn is how hard it is on older kids as they age out. The government really is no help to them. They really are on there own with no real place to call there own, no real place to call home. What you are doing with your channel is a miracle, and please keep going. I think the more people that know about this crisis, The more people that might help. Really I do. Thank-you for your kindness and your blessed heart.

I would like to know, when a child is settled and happy, why they get moved at all. This is cruel and inhumane. This practice, except under exceptional circumstances, should be curtailed at once.
@luisanthonychau
@luisanthonychau 3 жыл бұрын
I had (and still have) the same question, so I did a little search online. It is said that when foster kids break "rules," instead of being grounded, they get moved. I assume that's what happened with Kai. Kai specifically mentioned "rule" unbeknown to him while Peter brought up kid's "issue" in the conversation.
@j.canales3550
@j.canales3550 3 жыл бұрын
@@luisanthonychau I wonder which kind of rule? How is a kid supposed to learn if they don't get grounded for that. What an easy way to get rid of a child. I'm in nursing school and I saw a case where the child was just dropped off at a mental hospital. That child was in so much pain 😫. Unfortunately a lot of foster parents see these children as a check not as someone that needs to be loved, cared, and guided through.

A family I knew were foster grandparents. They had 3 sisters ( 1 month old,, 2 yr old and 5 year old) for about 5 years. Then CYS showed to take them one day out of the blue. They were devastated and asked why. They were told they shouldn't of been with them for no more than 2 years so they don't get attached to you. Needless to say they contacted their birth mother and ended up adopting all 3 girls and never fostered again.
@christinevr7698
@christinevr7698 3 жыл бұрын
@@debbiefontana9134 Don’t get attached was the policy?! That is ASS BACKWARDS! Children are NOT sacks of potatoes. Attachment is critical for healthy mental AND physical development of a child. That Agency sounds completely out of touch with current science and ffs - EMPATHY & COMPASSION! Bravo fr your friends finding the foster children again and adopting them.❤️ Sorry for the ranting/caps. It’s not directed at you! I am just passionately upset about the story you described.

What are the reasons foster kids moving all the time? I am especially intrigued by Kai's story. Given that he had been staying with his previous family for extended time, it's not likely a compatibility issue.
@simplyevette1303
@simplyevette1303 3 жыл бұрын
A lot of reasons. The foster parent might be moving outside of the jurisdiction, no longer wants to be foster parents, family issues that may cause additional trauma to the kid, the child’s behavior might be one that parents can no longer Handel, baker act, the bio parents petition to have the kid moved to a different foster home, family members (teachers, friend of the family aka Kinship) step up to take in the kid. There are a lot of reason. I take in teenage females and these kids go through so much.

That's really sad Kai had to be moved after establishing his life like that. He's seems like a really nice guy who has a great outlook despite not receiving the respect and curtesy he deserved. What I don't understand is why he had to be moved when he was there so long and only a few years away from being an adult? It seems so callous.
