This kind of life is incredibly difficult! There are beautiful moments don't get me wrong. We also live in N. Idaho, bought land and have been building our house by ourselves. We lived in an off-grid 250 square foot shed while my husband built our home (800 square feet). We did this for 2 years. No water to the house, composting bucket, had to boil water for everything. Not ideal. We live 30 minutes from a small town and a new town with no friends or family. My husband is gone 60+ hours a week and I stay home to raise our two toddlers. The entire event lead to so much stress I developed an autoimmune disease. Going through all that made me realize why electricity and modern amenities were invented and I have a greater appreciation for what I have now! We are currently working on having all those amenities as I have decided living off-grid is not for me! I thought I wanted to live like Laura Ingalls (big time fan) and the glamorized KZfaq videos definitely did not help with my perception of this kind of life. Buying land and living an alternative life style is trendy. So to everyone in the comments, just know I say this with so much love to be careful, take perspective and know that these videos are beautiful but the entire reality is not shown. It is still a really tough way to live.

People forget that they left the little house on the prairie, because they couldn't make it work either. It was basically a failure of an idea, even for the Ingalls family.

Thank you for sharing your perspective, it’s a good one. How is your auto immune disease now? Is it Rheumatoid arthritis? it developed an auto immune disease that I thought was RA from stress and it turned out to be chronic Lyme disease. God bless you.

My husband and two kids and I did the same thing in N Idaho and we decided it was too extreme as well. We want a homestead but starting out that way is just too much, especially with young children.

This was a good perspective! My comment earlier was encouraging to them probably because our property already had a house, well, septic, and power when we moved here last year. But it’s good to offer the perspective of not having those amenities for a long time, it would be so hard! We have had tons of people visiting us because they are so intrigued by the mountain beauty but quickly realize they feel very isolated. They want to explore restaurants and shops and we’re like, we don’t do that here 😂

You could get an insulated 24' yurt with a wood stove for the winter, I lived in one! Cozy and you can keep it long term and use it as a homeschool room or guest space in the future. They're around 15k.

....or a 30 ft yurt! Winter will be here before you know it. With 5 children and and a baby coming you will need more than a tent. Yurts warm nicely with a wood stove. It will still be hard work, but at least you can survive - as tough as you both are. Look into it! Wishing you all the best! A grandma from Montana.

Our family did the same thing a couple of years ago up in Alaska. We wanted to sell because the market was hot! We sold but had no where to do so we camped out with my in laws for 6 months! I actually loved it. Now we are in a new house. More property, more options. So glad we did it but what a lot of work. ( I looked your house up) and you did a great job decluttering and staging. We’ve lived off-grid for 3 years now, initially due to my wife being so sick from black mold poisoning. She began to heal living like this and so we kept going. She’s 100% healed now and just had our 3rd baby in our off-grid bathhouse. We started rough and have slowly improved our systems over time to cash flow everything and avoid debt. We used to wash clothes in a wringer washer (which is awesome) or go to the laundry mat (which was not awesome lol). But now we have a generator, a washer and clothes lines. There’s nothing like pulling crisp clean clothes off the line while the birds are singing. Things just take time. There are days that are harder than others, but we’ve learned a ton. I’ve learned how to build, grow potatoes, shepherd goats and more. But more than anything we’ve learn to be content and grateful with whatever our Heavenly Father gives us. We’re also nearly debt free, because our living expenses are very low. I’m thankful to have an on-grid office down the road for my work, to make traction at home. This kind of lifestyle is not for everyone, most of our friends don’t like not having A/C. But we choose not to so we avoid mold and just have a ton of fans in the summer and swim in the creek lol. I see people all over struggling to make ends meet, or sick, and may not realize there’s another way to live…and even thrive. Just takes a little grit and unconventional living. We have a shed conversion, but a wall tent is a great way to transition while building your home, Elisha! We hope to build a new home down the road. Shalom and blessings!

I’m curious what your wife’s main symptoms were? I feel like I’ve been struggling with something but haven’t been able to pinpoint the issue.
@aquietpeacefullife
@aquietpeacefullife 9 күн бұрын
@@TheMgmoore28 hello, it’s the wife here 😊 it was systemic - affecting different systems in my body. My biggest symptoms: chronic migraines, anxiety and depression, constantly getting sick, congested pretty much all the time, chronic fatigue (needing to lay down and rest after doing simple tasks). Once we got out of the mold I got better, but living tent life for a few months was a huge game changer and then transitioning to off grid living in a cabin without AC - I am fully healed from all of those symptoms. There were spiritual aspects to it as well - repenting of a lot of sin and experiencing deliverance. I hope this helps on your journey!

Katie and Elisha! I am joyful beyond words for you both! I’ve been watching your family for years, walking through many of the same seasons, and I’m so glad to see you now in this season of getting property 🎉 We just got ours last year. Transitioning from suburban life to rural homestead life has been such a gift for our family. I love seeing your family enjoying this precious gift! It’s so much work, but worth every bit of it!
@lynneford1023

Random tips from mama of 6 with similar experiences. You may consider "minimalizing your food choices during this season". Specifically I focused on a ultra simple keto diet ...just meats and a few veggies. For the past year we have stuck with a carnivore diet for our whole family, food list is ultra simplified: meats, eggs, some cheese and some dairy as desired. No veggies but we have kept frozen strawberries and blueberries. It's amazing the peace and time freedom and HEALTH your family will experience by simplifying your food. We do eat more variety when we are at fellowship meals.
@JuniperLynn789
@JuniperLynn789 14 күн бұрын
We learned this too! We eat seasonally! Because we don’t have easy access to everything at the grocery store all the time. It’s whatever is growing for us at the moment or what the farm has down the road. Right now, our family is pretty sick of cucumbers, melons, and berries, hahah! But isn’t it so cool that the foods our bodies need are what grow in that season? It’s over 90 degrees here every day so the cucumbers melons and berries are exactly what our bodies need!

Congrats! Praying for a great transition and that you remain positive and united through the difficult moments. We are not off grid (and not in a tent lol!), but mostly energy independent. We were moved by the Lord in March. We sold our suburban house quickly and over-asking for cash! We initially struggled to find a home until a realtor shared an off-market home to our agent… seemed like it was reserved for us. We moved out to an unexpected small town onto a beautiful partially wooded 10 acres. No regrets. My kids wake up ready to be outdoors everyday. I feel like our health has improved greatly and our relationships. We have a 5 y/o, 2.5 y/o and 7-month-old. I am so looking forward to raising them out here. Homeschooling (and family life) immersed in nature is just so much better :)

This is so crazy! I just happened to see this come up and I've waited a Little bit to watch it. But then I was blown away because we are currently in a similar situation! We have been called about an hour away to help with our Church's church plant.God invited us to join Him in the work. We are very excited but of course it comes with all of that that you were talking about with selling at home and and it is our first time as well. We are also looking for land or at least at this point it might be just trying to find a decent size yard... It seems like every home is designed for two children and we have five ... Or trying to see things out of the box for where we will live exactly. I'm praying that our home sells well and quickly. Picking up and leaving a life that we have lived for 20 years and our kids are in the teen years all the way down to a baby. So we are feeling the anxiety a bit and trying to rely on the Lord and His grace every moment.

I think you guys are brave to be out there. I would not glorify this lifestyle considering you have not been there long. The problem with wall tent is after a while- rodents will get in even if you do not have food inside as winter sets in I am talking pack rats- biting through the tent. Not to mention if wolves or moose show up unexpectedly with little kids. Once they find a food source or a reason to be there- they keep coming back. You guys are in the honey moon stage of camping in a wall tent. It is not an ideal place to be with 5 kids. Praying for your safety while you build a home. I recommend an electric fence that they use to keep animals out such as Premier 1 around your tent and area.

This would be cool for 1 or 2 weeks. Def inspired to try it for a short time period to make memories as a family. It would be nice hear what your big picture goals are. Moving off grid is not something random, seems like this is apart of a bigger family vision. For me, the Lord is teaching me to understand that I have born for such a time as this. Although i shouldn’t indulge in the culture, I also know that my purpose is unique to the 21st century. I hope you all learn and get the fruit of living off grid. I thank god for the technology he has inspired. I also thank god for the simplicity of our ancestors. I pray that we are able to live in for His purposes.

That’s great! We lived in a camper on our property with our 3 kids under 6, for about 3 months, and it was…interesting lol. It wasn’t too bad but we are so glad to be in our house now! I cooked everything on the blackstone, pellet grill, and air fryer. I made homemade breaded chicken tenders in the air fryer a lot. Bread your chicken, spray with a little oil, cook until brown, flip and spray and cook the other side.

air fry anything that you’d fry at home! french fries/home fries, all the veggies! (asparagus, carrots, squash, zucchini, etc) i like pork chops seasoned and plop them in, my mom does steak. play around with it. i’ve been learning more as i go (let mine stay in the box for over 6 months) but it’s added lots of value to our home. even saved us grease😆

I thought the sound and lighting were perfect! actually much more enjoyable than your old studio! so fun and exciting! our family is on a similar journey, although we have not yet pulled the plug on our house nor decided whether we are purchasing land or trying to find a house that better fits our family goals... it's been hard to find what we are looking for within budget... we have thought of just selling and buying a camper while saving and looking, but the issues you seemed to have with camper living (small kitchen, easily dirtied, etc. are concerns for us, as well)... inspiring to see what you guys are doing in the interim.

Congratulations!! I'm assuming you're building a house? I live in your area, maybe very close now, in the mountains too, too cold in the winter, especially with littles. Look forward to hearing more about this and a tour!

Wow I'm shocked and impressed! I feel like it was only a matter of time with your heart poster, to live more simply and a little more modest lives (less looking like the world). 😊

How neat y’all!! Enjoy 🌲 🌳 🪵 can’t wait to see the tent house! So so fun! What a childhood they’re going to have there; in God’s creation. Btw, we’re in the country on 15 acres, and my hubs built our cute small home (with tall ceilings so feels bigger!) He would’ve had that perfectly squared 😉 hehe. He’s done this for 20 years though 😊
