My dad’s side of the family are all conservatives, but they also produced five WW2 veterans, including my grandfather, and a great uncle who was killed in action during the Battle of Okinawa when he was 19. They would have been absolutely horrified, and livid that Trump was elected in America, and I’m sure they’ve done a lot of rolling in their graves since 2015-16. There have always been disagreements in politics, but there have been certain ground rules and basic principles that everyone held common ground on. Trump has done nothing but try to destroy that common ground ever since he became a serious political figure, and we need to protect our democracy from him, or we will lose it.

I cried, too. I can't understand why anyone would support him, either. When I ask, many said he appeals to their anger and racism. The sad thing is that I have evangelical relatives who have supported him from the beginning, even after hearing the Access Hollywood tape, seeing the Stormy Daniels story, etc. I just couldn't understand why. They are very devoted Christians, and I have heard them condemn people for the smallest things for years. But when trump ran, they embraced him. One of them was in law enforcement earlier in life, and was absolutely law and order about everything. Having said all that, after all this time, they still support him, and won't condemn the January 6th insurrection. I can't think of anything but that it's truly a cult.

I'm from Europe and his corruption was so overt and the child separation policy was incredibly cruel, but in some ways policies in Europe are actually worse. Europe is for example paying Libanon to camp refugees there, where they are subject to crimes for example they are killed in order to sell their organs in black markets and for a long time people have been dying in the Mediterinean trying to reach Europe. The immigration and refugee problems are hard to solve, it would be better to make people's lives better at their home countries, but that is unlikely to happen with climate change and all happening...
