PikamonMaster i’m from a previous socialist country and during socialism everyone was taken care of, everyone had a job and a place to live, when you didn’t work because of laziness you went to jail not receiving welfare cheques like now in capitalism people didn’t envy each other because the gap between rich and poor was smaller than now during capitalism, and because there were fewer variety of clothes and furniture so everyone’s home looked pretty much the same and people were more eager to help each other, unlike now during capitalism
@BasedRedemption
@BasedRedemption 4 жыл бұрын
@@FruityHachi I'm not saying socialism is bad. Capitalism and socialism each have their own pros and cons, but Americans are extremely anti-socialism even though our own government practices it willfully when a corporation or big-wig needs a bailout. It's disgusting. Late capitalism is what we're seeing now in the United States and that's not good at all for anyone but the rich.

If its not corona, something else will kill ya. This sedentary lifestyle will bring out the diabetes and heart disease pandemic everyone seemed to forget. Even if you have no history of diabetes in your family, when you marry someone with a family history of diabetes, every generation after you has a great chance of getting it. Hence, the "spread ". At some point, everyone will most likely get it.

Going to the grocery store is like playing laser tag. The shoppers just walk into my personal space, I dive into an empty aisle in order to keep 6’ of physical distance. Constantly diving into empty aisles is exhausting. People are not listening, they’re not paying attention to when they walk into someone’s space. I could not wait to get out of the store, I felt like I was putting myself and my family in harms way.

One day I was at the hospital with my Mom and I was watching all the nurses and they would put on hand sanitizer and then put on their gloves...I was like thinking 🤔 why are they putting on hand sanitizer before putting the gloves on so I ask the nurses why and they said because something could be on their hands before putting gloves on. Hence why washing hands and then gloves ~ as for us washing hands always will help us greatly to protect us from getting anything like the coronavirus.

Bothered me too. Going by his methodology-and also taking into consideration that plastic can hold the virus at least 72hrs-the first step he should have shown was to disinfect the plastic bags prior to handling the groceries within. At least wipe the entire handle and surrounding surface area as that will prevent unnecessary cross-contamination between bag and contents. This applies because the virus is yet only transmitted via droplets and thankfully not via aerosol; if the latter, then this video would require an update down the road. Also, he showed a good technique with the bread bag where he ripped the plastic midway down the wrap. It would have been great if he verbalized why that was important-because heuristically, people are likely to have touched the normal packaging opening (area above the tie) during stocking and surveying. I think these types of videos would serve s much more useful purpose if they explained the mindset component a bit more thoroughly and remained consistent with the logical framework.

I spray down my grocery bags at the door and let them sit for about 5 mins. then repeat. Like the doctor I wash everything down but under the faucet...a bag of chips goes under the water and washed down with soap disinfectant (a little goes a long way)...anything in an air sealed container. I pretty much do what the doctor has instructed. I'll even spray cereal boxes (the cereals are in air-tight containers. For grocery shopping use the store's plastic bags, place your hand inside to select your produce, then turn the bag down over your selected items. Been doing this way before this virus hoping it would catch on because I didn't like other people touching my food (even back then) - but nobody did. Perhaps they are now. Everyone Take Care. It may be a nuisance but it may actually slow down the spread of the regular flu, which kills thousands of people every year.

The point is really to limit the area that comes into contact with the bags or groceries. You can leave them in any spot where there is little traffic. Considering most people aren't going out a lot, leaving them in the entrance is probably safe enough. What you want is to avoid transferring things, touching them, having them come into contact with your countertops, putting your hands on the fridge handle, etc. You don't want to spread it to inanimate surfaces you would otherwise considering clean, because you risk touching that without taking any precautions. Otherwise you can sanitize everything as shown, just be mindful of where you put your hands and make sure to disinfect any surface that came into contact with the bags or the food.

@@ZombiPhill1 I didn't say that I stopped watching, I said that *he lost me* meaning he lost my interest. He massively cross contaminated when he picked the shopping bag up *off the floor* and then put it right down onto the clean side of the table. That in itself was a massive mistake. The bottom of that bag could have been on many floors before bringing it into the house. I would just leave my pantry stuff just inside my door for 3 days. I started wearing latex gloves under cotton gloves. As I walk into the store and grab a cart I soak/wet the cotton gloves top and bottom with bleach solution that I bring with me. That way when I touch something I know the bleach is killing the virus that is possibly on plastic and steel surfaces (which lasts 2-3 days). Before touching fruits and vegetables I put the plastic produce bag over my hand if I have to test for ripeness (I've always done this). Then just invert the bag over the fruit and tie it up. It's so disgusting watching people touch them with their bare hands! When I get home I change my cotton gloves and re-soak them with bleach and then clean my fridge items. It's a lot easier to disinfect items with cotton gloves on vs. a clorox wipe. Or you can bring them outside and spray them down with bleach solution and let them air dry. This saves on the clorox wipes and you can reuse the latex gloves because they are cleaned with bleach and then just wash the cotton gloves. I would NOT trust any fast food restaurant worker to wash their hands while preparing food. They may wear gloves but I've seen workers dump trash into the dumpster and go back to making food without changing the gloves. Places are still open for drive through and pick up but what if one of the staff is infected?

@Billy Lunger the man is correct. The containers are not able to absorb a liquid. You spray with a dilute solution, leave it 5 minutes, and that will stop the virus ability to behave the way it does. When I was younger I would be also highly unwilling to do any of this, but with 65 years under my belt, and a retired nurse as a mum, and the tragedy unfolding in front of us, it is now clear that survivors will be those who are able to do this, accept their fear ( I am scared, this not normal) and do it whether you want to or not. If I have saved a persons life because they were able to alter their habit and belief, ....I hope.

@@LadyLuck8_4 this is a gp, who will have done years of medical training, who understands how coronaviruses function and who explains, this one is less known. It is dangerous for evidence in front of you. This advice is ideal. Any health worker will agree. The reason this virus has spread all over the world is entirely due to humans' poor ability to respond quickly and intelligently. We dont like new. We dont like change. I get that. You are facing something you cannot control. It is within your control to choose to use common sense handed out in these videos. The choice is stark. Insane? It is not. The clinical testing of this particular virus was out on march 17, and lists what surfaces it can survive on for how long. I cant put link here, please google it. It also sheds. Dr. VanWingen your PSA was excellent. As a retired IM Triage, RN, BSN I do have 2 questions: 1) Will shaking items out of their containers onto the 'clean side' dislodge the virus onto the clean surface & 2) Will laundering cloth grocery bags in HOT WATER kill COVID-19? Thank you for doing this PSA.
@AvenWildsmith

1. Very unlikely, if not impossible. The particles need to travel on or in something, like a water droplet, or maybe dust. Besides, the amount of virus particles you're exposed to matters a great deal. Being exposed to one or two might not result in infection. 2. Any kind of detergent, including regular bar soap, will neutralise the virus. Hot water might speed this up, but the temperature doesn't really matter.

I remember my grandma practicing a lot of that in 70’s and 80’s. With a lot of deer hunters, we have ozone generation systems that we put gear and clothing in to kill bacteria to remove scent, also works on viruses. Your thoughts on utilizing an ozone system in garage or porch to decontaminate stuff well packaged? Also, we have been taking shoes off at door so not to track possible virus we picked up on floor of store. These too can be decontaminated in ozone system. Commercial ozone generators run about $70 and can be rigged up to a plastic tote. Or could be ran in car. Do not run in house or risk lung and throat damage. Ozone will dissipate in a few minutes after turning off and areating. If decontaminating a room, a window needs opened, and all pets and people out of house for two hours while it runs. Doors and windows will need left open until ozone dissipates..

@@snowbird6855 Just washing your hands IS enough. Shelf stockers were handling your items before this, you know, and just getting a virus particle on your skin is not how you actually catch the disease. There have been ZERO cases of the virus being transmitted through food.

Thank you so much, Dr. Van Wingen, for posting this excellent video. My husband and I have been doing most of what you presented, but I liked the way you divided your countertop in half. We bring our groceries into the laundry room, since it’s nearest to our garage, and I now follow your guidance. We do bring our produce into the kitchen and wash tomatoes, oranges, apples, etc, in a sink full of soapy water. Keep up the great work and stay safe and well!
