How about rotating that on the vertical axis?

How did you get a single circular fringe centre if you had 2 bright spots initially

Fringes are forming, but when you move the mirror what quantity and how much is changing is not being described

They used around 600 nm wavelength of light and are looking for fractions of a wavelength in differences. That's 10-7 meters or less, about the size of a virus. How in heck did they get the two reflecting mirrors equidistant to within 10-7 meters? IF there had been an ether, would the wavelengths of both beams have stayed the same? If there was an ether, would moving through the ether have no effect on the thickness of the glass on the mirrors or any other material component of the setup?

@@srinivaspachava8893 I found the answer. They didn't actually put the two reflecting mirrors equidistant (which would have been impossible) and they also didn't set up the apparatus to produce zero interference, they simply produced an interference pattern and measured the band distances, and then rotated the apparatus floating on mercury and found that the interference pattern didn't change in any orientation. I was taught in high school that they tried to show that there was no interference with the mirrors equidistant, but that clearly is unreasonable.

The experiment and explanation are fine and I am grateful for that. However, I am the only one to notice that the person is not wearing any protective equipment for his eye? I understand the instructor is experienced but lasers are extremely dangerous for the eyes and can do irreversible damages to the human eye. Everyone should follow safety protocol.

Thankful for the demonstration. But I must say the overall video could've been better. The camera is not stabilised and the demonstrator's language is not very crisp to understand in one go. My point is that if the institution has decided to put time and effort besides funds in production of such videos, they must as well do a quality check of the end product. In any case, thanks for the video!
