Nice video! I think as well as NS and Thalys, Eurostar from Amsterdam stops at Rotterdam Centraal and Brussels Midi, on its way to London St Pancras. I used to use the Brussels-Amsterdam service from NS before it used the Dutch High Speed Line, so it also stopped at The Hague HS, this service took an extra half hour I think and it also included an onboard trolley refreshments service I believe. Didn’t realise it was so cheap to travel between the 2 countries and first class too !

actually that service used to be around 10 minutes faster in total, as it stopped in roosendaal opposed to breda (the current stop in breda costs a lot of time) and skipped 3 stops in belgium, which made up for the time gained by using the high speed line.

@@daanwolters3751 I remember catching it at Roosendaal as it was a fast service to Amsterdam Centraal, it also stopped at Dordrecht if I’m not mistaken

@@robertmcross1 yep, it did. The classic line runs trough Roosendaal to Antwerpen, while the HSL goes trough Breda.

Interested to see this as I have a week traveling the rails in the Netherlands in a couple of weeks. One of my planned trips is Amsterdam to Antwerp on Thaylus and then returning on the same service as you did. Your price incidentally was very good, my booking, also in advance - for any train - on the NS service was E59. Although the comments on the older rolling stock are valid theres a lot in the Dutch system that the UK may consider. Other than the International trains there is no need to book early to get a better price. Other than the International services reservations are not needed. The information apps, NS own and 9292 are really excellent, and then the transport systems are really well integrated. At Schiphol that’s a one escalator rode to the main floor of the airport and there are local, regional international train departures. Compare that to the huge cost (and depth!) of linking Heathrow just to London. Perhaps in reality newer rolling stock and onboard catering trolleys are less important if you have a real walk up, walk on rail system, connected to other transportation types?

Great video, just that these coaches are a stopgap solution to the fyra disaster (who should have run this service but had too many issues to list here) untill they are replaced with the train you see in 12:43 (planning is 2025, tough it should already have happened, but alstrom has supply chain issues). And they are planning to divide this service into two separate trains: one will run from Amsterdam to Brussels using the new trains, and will be about half an hour shorter, mainly due to skipping stops (so only 10 minutes slower than the Thalys), while the Belgian railways will run a separate service between which services all the stops that the other train will skip, but will terminate at Rotterdam instead of continuing towards Amsterdam.

That seven day pass isn’t exactly cheap, around E240 in 2nd and E290 in 1st. If you plan lots of longer trips in the region it might be worthwhile but point to point tickets are pretty reasonable. Mind you better value than the 1st Class NS day pass for the Netherlands at over E90. You would need a pretty extensive day to make that work. Now in the Netherlands you can just touch in and out with credit and debit cards ticketing (only 2nd class) is becoming less necessary. The one pass I do like is the Amsterdam regional pass which gives you travel for 1,2 or 3 days over a pretty extensive area near Amsterdam. At around E40 for three days that gives a lot of flexibility.

Hi mate, thanks for watching - appreciated. There are a number of operators who travel between the two, NS International, Eurostar and Thaylis - you can easily book all on their website or apps. Prices vary but the earlier you book generally the cheaper it is.

Hello The Geordie Travels - just wanted to say it's The Hague which is Netherlands' official capital although some do refer to Amsterdam having that status. In the video it wasn't quite clear but I believe you claimed that Schiphol was mainland Europe's busiest and third busiest in the world after LHR and DXB. But what about FRA ? And I must stress that the Netherlands' govt (under its eco policy) has capped flight movements at Schiphol so it's now less busy than pre-pandemic ! However a new govt may reverse this decision ... we shall have to see. In terms of busy airports worldwide you must also consider than some US airports are actually busier ... just look at ORD or ATL. However most of these US airports traffic is domestic, not international.

Sorry to contradict you but your report is flawed from the very start. You did not travel on a Dutch train operated by NS, you travelled on a Belgo-Dutch train co-run by NS and NMBS/SNCB. These trains are known as "Benelux Intercity" trains. That's because they were originally planned to continue all the way to Luxembourg. They eventually never reached beyond Brussels but their very name (Benelux IC's) should remind you that they're not "just" Dutch, they're a joint international service. Please do some proper research before releasing a video.

Ok, so one slight mistake - got confused by the NS livery on the train but saying it's flawed the start is slightly harsh - just my opinion! Oh, and I do research by the way, I'm not an expert and certainly don't claim to be one just trying to share a journey so I'll still keep releasing videos despite your criticism.

@@TheGeordieTravels Ridiculous! I never claimed that you should stop releasing videos, I just said that you should conduct more accurate researches to avoid errors - and flawed titles in the first place. Yes the title is flawed, as this is not "Dutch rail" but a "Benelux train": it's fundamentally an international cooperation. You wouldn't have made such a fundamental mistake if you had sought proper documentation, starting with this: fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Train_Benelux
This is the INCREDIBLE new Dutch high-speed train!
