A most interesting video. Your comment about the cleanliness of the train, both exterior and the WC, applies to many trains here. Travel by train is quite expensive here. Even more so when you purchase a ticket from a machine. The OV chipcard is indeed useful. They cost €7,50. It is good to know that when you travel by train using the card you need at least €20 on the card to check in. For bus, tram and metro you need at least €4 to check in. For some express buses you need €10 to check in. We are very much behind, for example the UK (London) because we cannot pay with our bank card yet.

Actually this trains are now being refurbished, the first ones riding with the new interiors are the 9528 and the 9504. I had the opportunity to travel on one from Amsterdam to Hoorn and I have to say that the seats are pretty comfy in comparison with the DDZ ones, oh, and you also have USB ports in every seat!!

All these trains are in a major revision at the moment! You can do a comparison if you come back to The Netherlands(:

The upgrade is only worth when its busy in the train, im live in the netherlands so i know that. but the WC´s are discusting compared with Germany in my opinion

Worth to mention: this train runs every 10 minutes (and continue 100km to Eindhoven), but there are many more trains between Utrecht and other stations in Amsterdam as well.

Can't wait to be able to go back to the Netherlands (from the UK) and ride their trains. I work on the railway in the UK and get free (or heavily discounted) travel on many European systems; Dutch railways are the easiest to use with free travel as you don't need to book in advance or reserve seats 😊

Love the statement that “fares are the same price regardless of time of purchase”. It seems like a pointless remark to me, but it really shows how much we take our public transport for granted. And how different it can be.

We have more over short rides, so a bar in the train is a bit unnecessary. If you want to eat something, you bring it along, or buy it in one of the stores or restaurants in the trainstations. I hope you visited more parts of the Netherlands. Go to Den Bosch or Breda or Tilburg or Maastricht for instance or Groningen. Such great places to visit.

Pst, let me tell you a secret. Your not really meant to use first class in the Netherlands. Second class is just to good! (I'm not sure why first class it still exists)

Indeed, Amsterdam Centraal station is majestic and I really like vintage buildings especially the train station, they are not only beautiful but also made to last long. Great video mate, enjoyed watching it.

The first class upgrade is not just for the seat comfort. During rush hour intercity lines between the major cities (for example the Amsterdam-Utrecht track) can get really busy and a first class ticket basically means you are guaranteed a seat. This is because most frequent travellers like students have transport cards that are only valid in second class. Also commuters usually only get second class fares reimbursed by their employer. I think this is a pretty good system, because it ensures that, for a price, there is always seating available if you really want it.

First time I ever went to the Netherlands I ended up in Utrecht and when working in Germany about 50 kilometres away from the border we often went to Utrecht for the day out, try the city out very friendly people and a great local brew ( beer not tea) 😇

I have accually been on the front of one of those trains once. A couple maybe 10 years ago. My grandfather knew the driver. So they let him and me with it sit there and i loved it. Seeing ahead gives a whole new view then the side windown
