Thanks Mike. One tip I got that has saved me a lot of frustration over the years is to glue the windows and the ceiling diffuser in place while you have the body off the chassis. No reason you would ever need them to be removable, and it prevents all those loose pieces from falling out while reassembling.
@nscalemodeltrainshowtochan44798 жыл бұрын
Unless you would want to re-paint. I do put a touch of liquid cement on the window frame once in a while. Thanks , Mike
@petergroom10932 жыл бұрын
Use canopy glue instead of liquid cement; you only will need one or two drops for the insert piece and you can easily remove the windows later if you need to

The light is 'heavy' on the LED end. I found the light diffused better if I butted the light bar against the Amber filter, then electrical tape it to the LED and something like museum putty to hold the middle of the difuser to the top of the interior piece. Put the diffuser in white paint down, flaring away from the LED. Light is a lot more even.

I agree and that is a great technique. Mike

I think anything can be done maybe not by you but I don't give up until I've exhausted my resources. I will keep trying to find a way to light them. That is one thing bad about Kato lately, they don't complete the whole project. That lighting kit should of come with a way to light the rear end device.

Thank you for your clinic. I understand that the instructions for this kit is mostly in Japanese. I'm sure I will have no problems now.

One tip I learned from doing the Excursion lighting. I use a little tiny piece of quality 3m electrical tape, I tape the long diffuser to the LED, this helps dim the lighting nearest to the LED, thus it doesn't look so bright at the LED end of the car.
@N-Scale7 жыл бұрын
Great tip. I will try that. Thanks , Mike

When you pull apart the metal strips and then solder them, do the strips actually touch, or do you rely on the solder to provide the conductive connection?
@N-Scale7 жыл бұрын
They would normally touch but not a secure connection(in my eyes) so I solder them. Thanks , Mike

Hi Mike, Have you ever installed the kit into an RDC from Kato? It looks like it'd be the same, including the strips. I think the RDC requires the LED board to be removed.

Nope , I have not and of all Kato's the RDC is a real booger to work on. Mike

Mike Fifer haha, well, that'll make this more interesting. The Kato web pages are called "nightmare" and "catastrophe"...if you look at the nav bar.

Mission Accomplished! It wasn't too bad with the new LED kit. The funniest part was realizing that the contactor pieces go in a higher position than the led board.

Hey brother, I am just getting into the hobby and am a simple unfrozen caveman lawyer.... are there pre lit cars? I am trying to set up an n scale Christmas village for Xmas 2020 that doesn’t look like a 3 year old made it👍. This skill level of lighting these cars is about 6 echelons above me being able to put together my village! Any suggestions that would help me out and NOT require burning down my house (I am not skilled in the electrical arts.....I am just an electrical Padawan)😁

It was my understanding the diffuser was to create a incandescent lighting affect, and not a fluorescent affect? I’ve been unable to get that affect. My cars are from the Orient Express so this is important. Certainly could use some help here please. Cheers!

Hi there! I was doing the light kit setup , but the glass for the windows on the train fell off! Can you maybe make a video on how to fix the glass on the side of the train cart? Thanks
@N-Scale6 жыл бұрын
I will likely not as it is pretty straight forward on getting the glass back in. Thanks , Mike

Put two or three drops of canopy glue on the outside of the glass insert (away from the windows themselves) and press into place. You will be able to remove the window glass later if you need to.
