Gil, I first started trap back in 2014 or so. I saw your videos but it was a lot to take in. I just went out yesterday for the first time in 5 years. I have never had so much fun missing targets, lol. After watching all these videos, it all clicked. the ones I missed was either because I did not match the speed of the bird OR I did not have a consistent mount. Took me till the second round to get it all together. It takes a bit to get used to hitting without looking down the barrel. Thanks a bunch! In a few weeks I will try 5 stand.

Gil, I can tell you are a passionate natural born teacher. I haven't shot for over 30 years, after only a couple of shooting sessions using a couple of your tips I am really starting to break some clays again. A very grateful thank you! I hope to take one of your classes in person soon.

Sir, thank you for an excellent video. You speak and teach like my father did..God rest his soul. I have become complacent not only in my shooting accuracy but my own protection. A recent "attempted" home invasion jerked my awake. Now it's practice, practice, practice...and more practice. Thank you for your time and sharing your experience. 👍❤🇺🇸

Excellent! Most of my shooting is layout shooting for ducks and I've found mounting in front of the crossing duck substantially improved my shooting.

I think this is by far the best explenation I have seen so far. I am currently doing my hunting license and I struggle alot with hitting the bird as I am always behind it by just a tiny fraction, I will try this next time and tell you about it

In a nut shell, the animation simply highlighted the gun hold point was wrong, to close to the view point. That's why the UK CPSA method recommend that all targets are shot with a 50% hold point, this eliminates all the panic Gil is talking about. 50% hold point, mount on the target at the hold point, follow the target and pull away slowly at the break point, it is the most consistent method for crosses!

The three bullet drill i.e. the three cup drill, helps make the shooter comfortable mounting the gun ahead of the bird while the eyes are focused ON the bird.

A lot depends on the nature of the pairs. Generally, I shoot a lot of pairs like a modified report pair. After breaking the first bird, I drop the gun a fraction of an inch to a modified "soft mount" as I move the gun barrel to the second hold point. This frees my head and eyes to move most effectively to find the second target. That said, on quick pairs with the birds close together, it ALMOST appears like you're staying in the gun the whole time.

What about in a true Pair? You mount the gun on the first bird but then have to find / and get in front of the second one with the gun already mounted. So it seems you are using one method for the first target and a different method for the second. Or am I not looking at this the right way?

Wonderful explanation, but what if I want to break it halfway when it comes for skeet doubles? I don' spend those 99% leading the bird.

George Digweed is the Michael Jordan of Sporting Clays. He comes from behind the target almost every time. You don’t need to hold your gun and eyes at the same spot as in the animation. Move your gun out wait for the target to pass, mount and swing thru the bird and pull the trigger. Gun speed creates the lead.

In your second animation, your eyes, the green dot, were never on the bird but always ahead. The gun was always on the bird and never ahead. Or am I missing something?
