A total of 170 new probationary constables will be sworn into the NSW Police Force this morning.
The students of “Class 322” of the Associate Degree in Policing Practice will attest at the NSW Police Academy at Goulburn today (Friday 22 August 2014).
NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione will be joined by the Governor of NSW, Her Excellency Professor The Honorable Dame Marie Bashir AD CVO, to inspect the new recruits on the parade ground.
The students will attest with the rank of probationary constable and report to their new stations for work on Monday (25 August 2014).
They will then complete 12 months on-the-job training and study by distance education with Charles Sturt University before they officially graduate with an Associate Degree in Policing Practice. The officers will then be confirmed to the rank of constable.
Commissioner Scipione said the new recruits can look forward to a rewarding and constantly changing career that can last a lifetime.
“Policing is not your ordinary career path, and these new officers can expect to be challenged every day they carry their badge,” Commissioner Scipione said.
“The fact they are attesting today proves they have the dedication to succeed and uphold the Force’s statement of values.
“I wish these students the very best in their policing futures and hope they find the experience of serving the people of NSW as exciting and rewarding as I do,” Commissioner Scipione said.
Joining the recruits as they attest will be four new police dogs teams who have successfully completed training as either General Purpose or Detection Dogs.
In addition, retiring Assistant Commissioner Peter Dein will be honoured as he marches off the parade ground to the salute of Commissioner Scipione.
